what isn't known to any at all is the fact that the sovereigns of geo and dendro were once one entity and were the first sovereign, simply known as the sovereign of earth. they reigned not only over rock, but also nature.

they were forced apart due to the sheer power they carried, and had become twins instead. with this separation, the twin sovereigns have become a weaker version of themselves — geo becoming almost unnatural due to its inability to properly mix with other elements, and dendro becoming the weakest element due to needing other elements to become stronger. 

with apep and morax's weakened states, this has left them susceptible to disaster, curses, and erosion.

apep, due to their fragile condition from losing their 'protection' in morax, was more vulnerable to the abyss when it was brought into teyvat in the form of forbidden knowledge by king deshret.

morax, despite having some strength, lost his 'heart' in apep, not to mention having his power stripped and returned in the form as a gnosis by celestia, as well as the threat of erosion.

regarding the mondstadt archon quest . spoilers below .

while mini durin fused with big durin and became a human , that will not be his canon here . it will be a separate verse , but mini durin's canon is that he was given a human body shortly after simulanka . as for older durin , he eventually revived and reincarnated ( like the other dragons ) into a human . he does have a difficult time maintaining his abyss and his feral tendencies , but he was granted the role of sovereign by zhongli ( through a contract ) and is being helped by dvalin .

genesis automatically leans into the hand , nuzzling against the delicate fingers . he hums in agreement , pulling neuvillette closer .

" i never would have allowed it , but i am glad she didn't attempt . i do not know what i would have done . it was bad enough she burned your messages to me , i simply would not have coped well had she taken my horns . " it had been the one thing he feared during his time in captivity , and he's grateful she hadn't been that cruel .

a few moments later , he sat up to take his water goblet when he felt a soft touch atop his head . lifting his gaze , he found his beloved adjusting a flower crown of rainbow roses and pluie lotus .

an affectionate smile appeared and he gently reached up to touch the flowers before taking furina's hand .

alright so due to the revelations in the 5.5 world quest for the little guy , nex and genesis are switching domains .

nex is not the sovereign of death , rather , the sovereign of rebirth . however , because he holds such a powerful domain and had a target on his back from multiple sides , he and genesis came to an arrangement .

nex was to play the death sovereign and become the ' weakest ' after his defeat at the hands of the heavens and xbalanque . this in turn had genesis playing the rebirth sovereign . this was so nex could get the heat off of him and work undetected .

this also explains why the tsaritsa couldn't harm genesis in any capacity when he was her prisoner . as the sovereign of death , he gained an immunity , and is theoretically untouchable .

hearing such a request from his mate of all people, it did make the iudex blink a couple of times in confusion. when it does eventually click, he looks down and already sees genesis holding his hand and neuvillette smirks a bit. "i don't think i have a choice, do i?"

he turned around , barely having the time to brace himself when his beloved mate threw himself into the middle . hearing the pained cry and the pyro steaming off of the hydro dragon , genesis panicked .

he watched neuvillette stumble before unleashing a powerful jet of hydro , collapsing when the attacker was defeated .

" scylla ! " genesis dropped next to his mate , pale blue eyes scanning over the sovereign of life for any injuries . " are you okay ? can you speak ? "
