Huge Hangout
The Huge Hangout went just as I planned—though, in hindsight, I could have planned better. From a conceptual art perspective, my documentation was lacking, and I was idealizing the whole "building a community" thing as the solution to all world problems. In reality, some people were just there for the wine and the vibes.
I think my piece landed in the micro-utopian realm—I created an excuse for people to come together, strengthen their relationships, and feel a sense of belonging.
That day was beautiful.
Erika and I felt deeply fulfilled.
Now, a month and twelve days have passed, and things feel a little cold. I had planned to host one every month to keep the momentum going, but life got busy.
It’s hard to build consistency.
I also mentioned an article book that day, which never happened. And honestly, the whole point of this community was to foster education—because education is liberation—but somewhere along the way, that purpose got lost in the fun of the event. It’s funny how some people mocked me for emphasizing that… they don’t get how cool it is to be a nerd….
As I’m writing this, I feel that drive again—to follow through with this project, to make it real. If you were there and believe in what I’m saying, help me make it happen.
