CD Spotlight: Future Girls - Smile.dk
This is the Japanese edition of Smile.dk's 2nd album and one of the earliest of my collection! I didn't expect it to come with the obi since it wasn't shown in the pictures and it wasn't mentioned anywhere.

The album comes with 2 bonus tracks, one song and one remix (which is just track 5 but with lyrics change). Honestly, I prefered this album over the 1st one since that's when they started to get their style (if u know what I mean)

The whole design has this purple and yellow theme to it and uses a lot of geometric shapes in it. I really love the outfits they wore in the album (they used the same in the Doo-Be-Di Boy MV). Matches the theme of the album's name.

Just like most Japanese editions, they come with a separate fold out sheet with Japanese commentary and lyrics.
Fav Songs:
1. Kissy Kissy
2. Don't Let Go
3. Doo-Be-Di-Boy
4. Future Girls
5. Do You?

F.A.N.G is Not Hated in Japan
For years, it’s very rare for me to find FANG-hate in Japanese FGC spaces. Like, it’s EVERYWHERE in Western and Latin American countries, but I hardly see it in Japanese circles.

I remember almost 3 years ago I asked in Japanese “What do Japanese audiences think of FANG?” I didn’t have that many followers back then (less than 600), but one person from Japan answered: “The character's design and abilities were intentionally made to be unpopular, and while he's not a weak character, I think people who use him are perceived as oddballs.” It’s basically for gameplay reasons than anything else, but it still made me wonder if there’s more?
About a month ago, Atgrbread made a post asking “This may be because it's not real time, but why is FANG so hated? It's the same with the AKI-chan part, but when I see people saying random things without reading or understanding the story properly, it brings out my bad side of otaku.”

She really really loves FANG a lot, almost on par with AKI. She asked this a little after a Westerner made a terrible comment about him in another post. She comes from Japan, so two people from Japan answered. They both simply said it’s because FANG is a rare character to fight in SFV and they just don’t know the matchup.
I was still curious whether FANG is hated or not in Japan, so I had to ask her directly: “Is FANG disliked in Japan? During SFV, he was disliked in English-speaking countries and overseas, but I've never seen him disliked in Japan or China.”
She basically answered the same way that most Japanese fans would answer: the only thing they disliked from FANG is for matchup reasons, because he was a rare encounter and they don’t know how to fight him. But she added “However, many people who know him through SF6 think of FANG as a funny old man and they like him!” Which is a similar case to people outside of Japan too. People who only know FANG through AKI/SF6 tend to have a better impression of him than people who played SFV and hated him in it. I don’t think a lot of old-heads’ minds were changed when he came back as an NPC nor were they swayed by AKI’s adoration for him. But for newer people it works.
I wanted to know if there’s anything else that Japanese fans hated about FANG because I thought most of the Japanese answers felt like they were holding back. So I described to Atgrbread how the FANG hate is like from the rest of the world outside of Japan. I told her: “In English-speaking and Western countries, FANG is disliked because he is "too ugly, too ridiculous, too loud, too effeminate, too vega-loving (Dictator), and too weak." ”
Atgrbread responded: “In Japan, perhaps due to the effect of his voice actor, he has a strong image as a funny old man (but with a dark side), and he is not disliked in the same way as in English-speaking countries.”
So basically, the only thing most Japanese fans hate about FANG is fighting him online, otherwise he’s not hated at all over there like the rest of the world. FANG is not a popular character in Japan, but people think him being “a funny old man (with a dark side)” is endearing. Fair, I did see that type of sentiment from Japanese fans during the SFV era, just by how he’s drawn in fanart (kawaii cute style) and the way people talked about him. For years, I had the feeling that Japan and China “appreciated” FANG more, or at least didn’t hate him as much. But it does feel satisfying getting confirmation about it from a Japanese fan who’s extremely passionate about him.

Plus, there has been assumptions that Japan gets more priority than the rest of the world when it comes to Street Fighter content. If that’s the case, it’s no wonder Capcom gave some care to FANG in SF6 in the first place instead of forgetting about him or erasing him. Also, some Japanese players openly want FANG to come back playable without anyone telling them “No.” I envy them …I know if fans openly say they “want FANG playable again” in English, people will outright say “No” because of X, Y, Z reasons unless Capcom miraculously proves them wrong. Players who actually played both FANG and AKI for a significant amount of time understand that both are completely different characters with their own play styles and one shouldn’t be treated as a replacement for another. If Japan gets more priority and that FANG isn’t as hated over there, it gives me more solace. I hope Capcom continues to listens to them.
But just because I say that FANG is seemingly more appreciated in Japan and China, it doesn’t mean he has no fans outside of Asia. Although unpopular, FANG amassed a fanbase around the world throughout the SFV era and beyond. There were players that mained him since release until the end of the game’s lifespan (and even up to today!) and there were fans that make incredible art of him on a regular basis. If anything, it was his fans that got me back into Street Fighter and have me involved with the FGC, despite most of the community not aware of their existence. I’m in the community in the first place because of FANG and his fanbase (English speaking too!).

Single Sundays: Heut' Ist Mein Tag - Blümchen
This is on of my earliest Blümchen CDs. At the time, I wasn't familiar with her and her music, so I ended up buying her singles first, before I committed to an album. They were "Herz an Herz" and this one!

The single comes with 3 Hardcore remixes and one Rock version, which is at the end. It's considered an icon to 90s culture and especially 2000s internet culture! ( ´ ꒳ ` ). It is one of my favs! So...it DID release in an album, "Jasmin", her 3rd album, but it was in a special "Fan Edition". Thus, my copy of her 3rd album does NOT come with it. (•︵•)
