Motor Controller: How does it really work?
Whenever talking about Motors Control , it is important to understand how it really works. When you have the basic knowledge, it becomes easier to handle the whole thing.

The basics of motor controller
There are two flavors of electric power: AC and DC. While the DC normally flows in the same direction, AC will always go from the negative to the positive many times in a second. The AC motors are powered by an AC current. When the current switches direction very fast, the motor spins faster. With an AC controller, the currency frequency changes to be able to control the motor speed.
Making DC
The AC power is what is normally applied on motor controllers. The power which comes into the controller is at a frequency that is set. The motor controller will first turn the AC to DC, then back from DC to AC at a frequency which is right. A rectifier is a device that is used to do that, making the DC currency.
Inside the rectifier, there are diodes that tend to function like a valve that has one way. When in the negative half, there is a diode that is attached to the AC’s negative wire which lets it through while another diode attaches to the positive wire to ensure that it is stopped. When the AC is in its positive half phase, the opposite tends to happen and the AC flows to the positive wire.
To understand more about motors and controls, you can do some research on internet where you can get all the information.

At Emerson Drives, you will be able to learn how motor control works. The motor speed is proportionally inverse to the armature voltage drop. This means means that a DC motor speed could easily be controlledthrough varying the supply voltage, the flux, the current via field winding, and the armature voltage.
