made a picture for the authors bio for the print copy of my comic @someone-always-cares

for anyone that's curious, im finally back to where i was pre computer death, (in terms of book making) and everything is so close to being printed. current stage: assembling it into a test print, spellchecking it all, adding page numbers?, and sending that to print and can make adjustments from there

also going to include behind the scenes bonus sketches, at least 3 pages due to the comic needing to have a multiple of 4 pages

some doodles of sir and ichor. just some older golden guys with less than legal activities and some cool scars.

some notes on ichor:

He has golden blood with healing capabilities, hence why he has so many scars. Visually the scars are supposed to look like kintsugi (because it looks cool)

but that’s not how scars work, i dont think blood colour factors into it so tbh his scars are probably closer to scabs than anything?

kinda went with vaguely greek/roman fashion for his costume, because his name is ichor because of his golden blood

funnily enough, there is a blood type known as golden blood! Rh-null, and apparently less than 50 people have that type. i think it would be funny if ichor was one. nominative determinism

some notes on sir:

costume mostly based off magicians and old timey butch lesbian fashion. thankfully both these options were suits so it was pretty easy to do

the flower is a pansy because i was looking up gay flowers but i needed one that came in yellow but lavender, violets and green carnations are, well, exactly the colours their names imply, so pansy won by defualt

he doesnt wear his costume anymore because he’s retired from actual super stuff (most likey was a vigilante). plus he thinks the magician stuff was cooler when he was younger.

if i had to pick a name for whatever his previous alias was, i’d go with “palone-omi”. the reason for this was trying to design a younger appearance i was like “well he’s a he/him lesbian and i put a welsh flag on his wall so lets quickly look up lgbt welsh history and i remembered this one gay shop in cardiff that had some words (like gay and lesbian ect) in another language and at the time i assumed that was welsh.

anyway turns out it wasn’t, it was polari, which is a mixture of different romance languages, slang, yiddish, and theives cant, and was used in the uk and ireland and was used in gay subcultures (as well as fishmarkets, the navy, circuses, ect) because yknow, it was illegal. but anyway i thought it was pretty cool

anyway palone-omi means lesbian in polari.the language did fall out of use in the 60s so around the time he would have been born but guess that means he’s into history then

DAMN comes next, with only 4 uses tied between omen, lin, quartz, and sound flood, all of which with one use. after that is HELL, with sound flood leading with two counts, the other half is split between lin and quartz with 1 each.

BULLSHIT chart is mostly taken by lewis with 3 counts, compared to medicas and fatima (rami’s sis) with 1 each. ASS comes next, with only lin (3 counts) and rami (1). next is ASSHOLE, split half and half with quartz and lewis with 1 each, similar to the BASTARD chart, split with cam and omen with one count each. another half and half split is the CUNT chart, with lewis and ruby (caps mum) with one each.

the DUMBASS chart is split between lewis (4 counts) and rami (1). the BITCH chart is also split between the two with 1 count each. end id]

i spent over 5 hours going through my entire comic and counting all the swears yesterday and putting it into a spreadsheet and now i made that into some charts! this is just sorting out who said what, and does not factor in swears per word because im not that fucked up to count that yet! also important to note i included swears in thoughts, which affects lewis and rami the most as readers will see their thoughts way more than other characters due to the two being protaganists

not included were swears only said once:

some other interesting notes:

omen didnt swear while dreaming, just when talking to rami (one line where they were reffering to faete and mindforce as 'damned bastards'

rami doesnt swear out loud often, the ones he said out loud were ass (referring to himself as not an ass kicking person or something when lin asked if he kicked any ass),  (eg lewis reffering to himself as a dumbass and rami saying he is not a dumbass), bitch ("you heard me. bitch" at duke when he insulted cap), and fuck “also, hey, uh, what the fuck?” when rami asked lewis about scaling the building

caps first swear was in that bonus flashback (unless you count her referring to sun flower as being pissy) when reffering to the tracker in her neck as being pretty fucked up

cams first swear was at duke ("that's for trying to murder one of my best friends, you bastard!")

both caps mothers swears were all on the same page! all in referance to sun flower

not a swear but rami is the most likely to tell his loved ones that he loves them

also not a swear but realised rami has been referred to twice as "your kid" to cap, once by medicas and once by quartz

3 of iris's FUCKs came from the bonus pages but tbf thats a very reasonable reaction to being kidnapped and 'waking up' to see some grim reaper fucker right there

i did not include mentions of HELL in the context of reffering to lins superhero name (hellfire)

if you’re curious what misc is, its just where i put the ones i wasnt sure if i should count it or not or wasnt sure where to put it, such as:

acronyms (wtf- duke, bs and ofc from sound flood

one censored use of the r slur from dennis (the prick from ch 4 in school)

smartass (for sure a swear but i didnt want to give it its own catagory) from lewis

one panel where lewis’s internal dialgoue was just the word “FUCK” repeated as a pattern and i had no idea how to count that as

one use of the word pissy (it doesnt feel like a swear at all but just in case) from xandra

last and least, “voring” from dante. not a swear but it felt cursed enough to include.

my sis advised i branch out my swearing options (she also described my infodump on all these charts as the funniest ted talk ever)

anyway this is part 2! next and final part will focus just on rami and lewis and will also include how many of their swears are out loud and how many are just in thoughts because i counted thought swears but as the protaganists these two have their thoughts shown more and that did skew the final results a bit

additional: went off topic with the hair question a bit. their bright hair is all part of the transformations. regular hair dye does exist though. best way to tell is that if the eyebrow matches the hair its probably not dyed. also, quartz’s hair is naturally ginger.

Despite her less than professional bedside manner, she takes her role as a healer very seriously. No rules or law will stop her from healing and that is a threat.

Her powers include healing, being able to instantly sanitise objects and herself, and being able to instantly diagnose an issue. Her powers can not affect disease, mental health, or anything without a pulse

fun fact: the ice cream shop was almost named after my dog, until a friend suggested its canon name. as a weed joke. i kept it
