社会に蔓延している黒人差別を、主人公の無意識に人を見下してしまう有害な男らしさと共に描いていて面白かった。

色々と描写がやんわりとしてて、とんがってる感じはあんまりしないかな。母親や妹、恋人、女性の作家、ゲイの兄弟との関係性を描いているから、おそらく私は黒人社会の男性優位性も描きたいのかな？と思ったんだけどどうなんだろう。最近は人種を偽って偽のパーソナリティを売りにする作家や俳優の話を耳にしていたので、それにまつわる出版会やエンタメ界のゴタゴタも実際の方がやばそうなので、映画の方はちょいと物足りない気はする（エージェントのアーサーと仲良しで面白い。）

気鋭の女性作家シンタラはリサーチをして黒人ゲットーを題材に描いてるんだけど、主人公のモンクが「それとこの作家（出自を偽って自分が作り上げた作家）とどう違うんだ？」と聞くところは、（もちろん詐欺をしていないという点で天と地の違いがあるんだけど）「結局はそれが売れる」という文学の資本主義的側面が皮肉られてるよなぁと思った。
