mutual aid means no hierarchy between givers and receivers

a new mutual aid org, Bridge of Solidarity, has been established in the gaza strip by 17 year old poet yazan mohammed in response to the exploitative practices conducted by some charities and encouraged by the existing charity-based model of fundraising for gaza. according to BoS: "the western attention economy and pity economy plays a large role in who lives or dies in gaza." essentially, people need to make themselves marketable in order to receive lifesaving aid; people who are not marketable die. yazan himself wrote about the damage this can do to one's self image, which you can read here.

after trying for a year to respect his own privacy, my friend siraj was also pressured into posting images of his son's emaciated body in order to gain sympathy from westerners.

we cannot keep forcing people to do this anymore.

here's a declaration of their values from bridge of solidarity's most recent post:

Our organization is against the Western gaze. We refuse to humiliate people. We refuse to force people to take photos. We refuse to force people to take photos with our flyer or logo. People will receive aid freely without being forced to pose. We will respect people's privacy completely. Our principles include autonomy, dignity, sovereignty, mutual respect, and mutual aid.

this org will prioritize giving aid to people without phones or social media, who do not speak english, and who do not have outside support or living parents. these are the people who are not palatable to westerners but who deserve to live with as much dignity as everyone else

God is the bad part of town. The trap house. God is the tattered ripped clothing. He smells of piss, dirt on his face with a disheveled beard. His mental health is poor.

God is all the people you would shut out of a church.

He’s all the things you hate.

He’s everything that the religious elite want no part of.

The God of the universe makes his dwelling in the darkest of places.

You wanna find God? Leave the church and look for the broken. I guarantee you’ll find him.

We count those who survived, so we don't forget how close our turn is. We die every day...Not just from bombs, but from hunger.

We die because a morsel of bread requires a miracle. We die because clean water is more precious than gold. We die because the aid fund has become an unattainable hope. We die... because the world has chosen silence. Have you seen a child sleeping, crying in pain? Have you seen a delicate hand trembling as it embraces a bag of flour as if it were a treasure?

I know we are all used to hear bad news from the USA or UK when it comes to trans rights but this time Germany wants to play in the same league.

Our idiots at home ministry came up with the fucking idea to start a register for all transgender and nonbinary people which would mean every person working at some public position could always at any given time see your assigned gender at birth, your deadname, your address and who knows what else.

We had been there in the past. Hitler Germany called it the "Travestite Law" back then. Our politicians didn't learn.

We all know this is unacceptable.

Please, if you are German, sign it. If you are not, spread it wide and far.

This had been stopped once a few years ago. It needs to be stopped again.

I always ask myself this question, if people a year ago when I created the campaign had donated to me and helped me and we reached the desired goal, I would have fled the war, I would not have lived in a tent, I would not have slept, I would not have drunk contaminated water, I would not have been afraid, but unfortunately people ignored me, the person who ignored me, are you happy now?

I created my campaign more than a year and two months ago. I communicated with many of you. I faced difficulties with the Internet in order to spread my campaign. I asked for your help at the height of the war.

Despite many attempts to publish, only a few people helped me, thank you to them, and many people ignored me.

The campaign's first and main goal was to travel outside Gaza and escape this horrific war, but because many people ignored me, I only received $5,000 in more than a year. It was too late, and the crossing was closed. We are now living inside a cage, trapped and afraid.

I also faced many challenges such as: my Tumblr account was banned more than 15 times, my PayPal account was banned twice, and they withheld $310.

As for the money I got from the campaign, we bought food and drinks and paid university fees (we are studying remotely).

I had decided to cancel my campaign and not post because this thing was making me worse than before due to people ignoring me and in a big way

But I decided to return to spreading my campaign because we are hungry. Yes, it is true that we are hungry. The entire Gaza Strip is now hungry, without any exaggeration. There is not a single loaf of bread. We have begun to lose balance due to the lack of food.

I hope everyone will help before it's too late.🙏🥹

a whole bunch of gazan mutual aid projects and nonprofits. if the decision of which individual fundraiser to give to feels too daunting, or if you just want to help as many people as possible in one go, these are great initiatives to support.

connecting humanity - securing internet access via donations of virtual sim cards (esims). if you can't afford a whole plan yourself, crips for esims is a communal pool that will use your donation to purchase and maintain esims

hygiene kits for gaza - provides hygiene supplies including menstrual products, wipes, and toothbrushes/toothpaste

anera - provides a variety of necessities, including food, water, hygiene supplies, medicine, blankets and mattresses, and psychological care

palestine children's relief fund - provides supplies and support with a focus on children. also has an initiative for lebanon

July 20, 2025 - Israel or Israel-supporters attempted to sabotage the new freedom flotilla aid ship Handala, which will try to break through the Israeli blockade of Palestine to deliver a symbolic amount of food and medical aid to the people being starved and slaughtered by the Israelis. [video]

This isn't a donation post. I just need people to read this.

I keep saying "It's dire" and it keeps getting even worse. I don't even know what I'm asking people to do, just that I don't want this to happen in silence. I want everyone to know this.

I received these messages from my friend Anas, and soon all my other friends in Gaza started crying from the same ache: there is no food in Gaza.

The gist of the messages, shared with permission, until I translate more thoroughly:

Used to be that the problem was that aid was being sold (instead of just given, as it should be) for ridiculous prices. Now there isn't even food to sell!

Most people in Gaza have now gone at least a day without eating. Many of my friends have gone multiple days.

We are now on a timer before hundreds drop dead unless food is allowed into Gaza. This is not hyperbole. This is a countdown to death unless something changes very, very soon.

Please pray for Fr. Gabriel Romanelli, as well as those injured at Holy Family Catholic Church in Gaza. [source] Please continue to keep all those in the area in your prayers. If you would like to make a donation, under the readmore is a list of different charities working in the area. If they release a specific fundraiser for the Church then I will update this.

You can donate to Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) who are fundraising for areas in the Middle East to provide emergency healthcare, food packages, safe shelter, cash to buy fuel, blankets and other essentials.

Caritas are fundraising to provide humanitarian support in Jerusalem and Gaza.

Aid to the Church in Need are providing assistance in the area, make sure on the donations to select ‘Holy Land’

Friends of the Holy Land are also fundraising, you can see on their donation list what kind of things your money can go towards e.g. helping a child access trauma therapy, providing food, or even helping retrain people in the area so they can seek employment.

Embrace the Middle East have a Gaza Crisis Appeal donation form.

There is an Orthodox Christian Church in the area which you can directly donate to. Saint Porphyrios Orthodox Church has close connections with Holy Family Catholic Church, just recently they had a joint event where they provided gifts and games for the children from both Churches. They also provide shelter and aid to a range of people in the area. You can donate to them through this fundraiser.
