The wound was still open for many, the pain was difficult to make disappear.
They were just a question, 'If I say I'm sorry, would you believe me?' You can't forget the pain of betrayal so easily.     It's been a tough few weeks for everyone, with multiple interrogations and journalists on our tail.     But above all, it was difficult for Jessy. As her friend, I couldn't help but come and, of course, receive the same interrogation. In a way, I was glad they didn't find anything related to Jake on my phone. It meant he was safe.     Days after everything calmed down, he reappeared in our lives, apologizing for having abandoned us in that way, but he had to do it to protect us. It wasn't enough for Dan to know that they thought he was crazy for desperately searching his phone for any trace of Jake or the files we sent.     For me at least it was a joy that Jake was back. I got that 'I love you' again, so I couldn't get mad at him knowing the FBI thing was serious. Our only regret is that we had to postpone our meeting. Of course they were gone, but it was too risky for them to come back looking for him as a trap.
A loud noise makes me jump on the couch, followed by a curse coming out of Jessy's mouth.     I sit up, careful not to make too much noise, and check my phone. It's five in the morning. This time I get up from the couch, wondering what I was doing awake at that hour.     As I walk into the kitchen, I see her picking up the coffee from the floor.
"What are you doing up at this hour?" I yawn as I go to help, but she raises her hand, stopping me.
"Careful, you're going to cut yourself," I see the small pieces of glass on the floor. Thank goodness she warned me, "I couldn't sleep. I'm nervous because Phil is finally being released today."
"Yes, but they won't do it until six in the evening," I let out a small laugh as I cross my arms.
"I know, but…" she finishes cleaning, sitting on the kitchen chair, putting aside the dustpan and broom, "It's incredible that it took them weeks to realize he had nothing to do with Michael Hanson's death. Wasn't that clear years ago?"
I approach the small kitchen table, sitting in the chair opposite.     The police have searched every inch of the bar or apartment for any trace that he had killed him to take over the bar, nor have the dogs detected any strange smell, the testimonies of the night in which Michael disappeared say that Phil was with his friends and then with a girl. They reviewed each testimony again in case anything had changed, but everything remained the same.     Michael Hanson actually decided to leave everything he had to Phil Hawkins, his only employee at the time.
"That's what happens when someone is missing, every so often the case is reopened," I explain this as calmly as possible, so that he doesn't blame Alan Bloomgate. He's just doing his job.
"But to reopen it, you need someone to ask for it, right?" Jessy frowns thoughtfully, "Perhaps a relative? His ex-wife? Who would be so keen to request a reinvestigation?"
It's also true that if they find new evidence, the case is reopened, so there are two possibilities: Someone is looking for Michael or they found a new lead.
<<Maybe I could ask Alan later, he must know something.>>
I extend my hand toward my friend's, smiling at her. I have to stay calm; if she gets upset, she might have another fit. Since the night with the mine, she's not well and she doesn't need to tell me, I've noticed. She looks at her phone constantly, as if she were waiting for a message or a call. She still hasn't accepted Richy's death, it's as if she's still waiting for him to give her a better explanation even though he's already been buried.
"I'll take care of finding out, okay?" She looks down and nods. "You rest and wait for your sister to arrive. We'll have the whole day ahead of us."
"Yes, it's…" She swallows and looks at me, "It's fine."
I nod slowly, getting up from my chair to go straight to the door.
"Macie?" I pause, leaning against the frame, looking at her. "Thanks... I really don't have the strength to watch the rest of the group after..."
"I know it's hard for you, but remember that you are not alone and that they need you too," I try to be as gentle as possible, not wanting him to think that I'm holding it against him for not seeing the rest of our friends, "these are the moments when we need each other."
She nods with a small 'Yes' coming out of her mouth, hugging herself.     I feel a little helpless not knowing what else to do. I also drag everything that has happened into my personal life, as if many of the things that have happened were my fault.
I go back to the couch, trying to go back to sleep. Jessy has returned to her room a couple of minutes later. She's probably not sleeping, but at least she's not wandering around. I just hope she gets some sleep a little.     I grab my phone from the nightstand and log into the chat, hoping Jake will do the same as soon as he sees I'm online.     And of course, he connects in seconds.     I can't help but smile when I see his profile picture, that mysterious mask that separates me from knowing his true appearance. But for now I don't care, I know it's been a tough few weeks, I can wait a little longer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jake Hello Macie. Are you okay? It seems strange to see you online at this hour.
Macie I was just waiting for the cutest boy to come online 😉 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jake starts writing, but instantly deletes it. I stop myself from laughing too loudly at that reaction. He's gotten nervous. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jake Should I log out then?
Macie No! I was talking about you 😭
Jake I know. I just have to get used to you talking to me like that. You are making me lose my mind.
Macie And I’m just sending you messages I don’t even want to think about what would happen if we met in person
Jake You would have me on my knees, for I could not stand in your presence.
Macie Okay, now I'm the one who's going to get nervous with your words 😳
Jake :) How is Jessica?
Macie Nervous Sad Exhausted Hopefully Phil’s return will cheer her up a bit
Jake I understand. Be careful when you see him. He is been in jail, so we do not know what he will try to do.
Macie Worried that he might want to have sex with me?
Jake I trust you. But not his intentions. I do not know if he thinks you are doing it out of some special interest.
Macie The only interest will be the free drink I hope he gives me for defending him
Jake Haha. Hopefully, then it will be a good use of your skills as a liar ;)
Macie 😆
Jake Also, I am just a message away if he does anything to you.
Macie Would you come out of hiding if I needed help?
Jake If you ask me, of course. I would be there as soon as possible.
Macie I knew it You’re adorable
Jake :)
Macie I’d better get some rest I need to ask Alan something that Jessy made me think about
Jake Of course. Rest well, Macie.
Macie Let's talk later
Jake Wait.
Macie Yes?
Jake I love you, Macie.
Macie I love you too, Jake
Jake :)
-----Jake is OFFLINE----- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't mind him telling me this every time we say goodbye; I feel like it's his way of apologizing for worrying me about what's happened these past few days.     I leave my phone on the small table, lying back down with a smile. I feel like I'll never know how to express how much I love him; words fall short when I tell him everything I feel. I hope to make him happy one day by being by his side.

To gain Alan's trust and allow him to tell me more about Michael, I bought a strong caffeine coffee and some caramel-coated donuts, I think this might convince you to share some information.
I enter the police station, where there's a young, possibly new, police officer at the reception desk. Perfect.
"Good morning," I place the bag of coffee and doughnuts on the reception desk, putting on my best smile, "I'd like to see Chief Constable Alan Bloomgate."
"Oh, well, Mr. Bloomgate is in his office now making some calls, you can sit and wait," I see his eyes dancing nervously. It was a good idea to put on red lipstick.
"What's your name?" I lean forward a little further, my hand under my chin.
"A-Andrew, miss," how cute that his voice trembles.
"Okay, Andrew, how about you let me in exchange for a special meal?"
He adjusts his police uniform and grins like a fool. He's about to learn a lesson.
    "Sure, with pleasure—"
"Look, here's my number," I take the pen that's on the chain and his hand, starting to write down a phone number. My ex-boyfriend's phone number, "call me this afternoon and we'll plan the meal."
"You can come in," he signals without taking his eyes off her hand.
    "Thank you."
I have breakfast and walk through the door as soon as I hear the sound of it opening.     There are already some police officers working inside, and some of the women are even taking statements.
I approach the door with Alan's name on the plaque, and fix my hair before knocking. The police officer from before didn't intimidate me, but Alan? Years of experience, he inspires more respect. Just like him.     As soon as I call, I wait for your notification.
    "Come in."
I put my hand on the doorknob and see the man in his fifties wearing a suit with his phone in his hand. He is well groomed with his dark blond hair and a few gray hairs on the sides. But I must say, for her age, she's not bad at all. It's a shame I don't have any single family members to introduce him to.     He says to the person on the call, “Just a moment,” and looks at me.
"What are you doing here, Miss Connors?" He puts his phone down for a moment, his gaze fixed on mine.
"I just wanted to bring you breakfast and ask you about Michael Hanson and his case."
His gaze changes to that of a father looking at his daughter with a serious look. I know this because I've seen it before with my father.
"I will call you back." He hangs up his phone and turns his attention back to me as I place the bag on his desk. "Bribbing me won't get you any information."
"It's not to bribe you, it's so we can talk about it calmly."
He opens the bag and raises his eyebrows, taking out the box of donuts. When he opens it, he makes a satisfied sound in his throat.
"I guess I can talk to you about anything you want, since this is a closed case again," He puts the box on the table, taking out the coffee cups.
"I wanted to ask why it reopened," I pick up my coffee, noting that it has quite a bit of sugar, and sit down in one of the chairs in front of the table. Meanwhile, Alan leans on her, one arm crossed, "It’s a little weird, considering he was declared dead by suicide."
I see him looking at me, almost analyzing me. In any case, I haven't said anything wrong; I just need to know why someone would want to reinvestigate me.
<<Why would someone want to know more about a man who took his own life?>>
"Are you here for Miss Hawkins?" He puts his coffee down on the table, now completely crossing his arms.
"She made a comment that made me remember that it's true, you can't open a case if a family member asks for it," I also leave my coffee on the table, joining my hands, "So, some family member must have asked for it, right?"
He lets out a little air, almost like a laugh. He pushes away from the table, sits in the chair next to me, placing his arms in his lap.     He looks up, his clear eyes staring into mine, and in a calm voice, he begins to say what I feared most.
"If it is about Hannah's kidnapping, you don't have to continue investigating it because it's been proven that there's no connection," I snort, annoyed, "you have been through a lot, Macie. The death of your friend, finding out he was the kidnapper, the disappearance of the hacker—"
"It's not about Hannah's case." I try not to get carried away with the subject. I don't want to talk about it right now. I can't, "Alan, it's clear that if someone wants to open the Michael Hanson case, it's because it wasn't a suicide. Haven't you thought about that?"
"And that is why we are investigating it," he leans back in his chair, throwing up his hand in exasperation, "we do not know why this man wanted us to look into his disappearance again—"
"Man? Was it a man who asked for it?"
He runs his hands over his face, knowing what he just said. Surely he shouldn't have told anyone outside the police station.
"Forget it, okay?" He motions to stop me with his hands. "We never even saw him. It was an email we received. The email had a man's name on it, that's all we know."
    "And you didn't contact him?"
"We tried, but there was absolute silence," I nod at his words, following his conversation, "he told us that Mr. Hawkins knew something more than he had told us, that he was hiding something important from us, so we reopened the case, because at that time it was strange, but it is clear that he must have gone to a place that we do not know and… He took his own life," I'm going to speak, but he gets ahead of me, "if Phil did something, he will give himself away sooner or later after he is been arrested. It is only now that we will see what steps he takes after his release."
The truth is, I don't want to think that Phil really has anything to do with Hanson's disappearance. Or maybe it's because I haven't spoken to him about it, I don't know if I should think he's behind her death.     But one important thing he told me is that there's an email from a man who knows something about the case, and I think Jake can help me. I can't leave this mystery unsolved.
<<A body that never turned up, a man who asks to open a case because he suspects Phil—or maybe he's looking for something about Michael that Phil might know?>>
*Here's the preview. I've completed the first chapter, now it's a matter of whether you want the rest, let me know. If not, it's okay, I'll keep writing to get over the block until there's another story you like.*

yea ok i agree with you looking like that is not sooo sad and honestly if they could've showed us more of black perspective this would probably feel less...bittersweet is a great description
i think not me it's a lil ahead of it's time in that sense, not having all the things they needed so let's all thank P'Nuchy and the staff for the hard work...specially Gun cuz being both the twins must've been hard 🤣🤣
i did not hate the end but did not love either however i wanna coment white and sean's conversation about black.
yes no one wants to live in anothers shadow but are you aware you kinda stole your brothers place? plus your roles in the gang are different yk? he is more like a leader and you're more like a strategist/the only one with brain so you BOTH COULD STILL BE IN THE GANG

it is in character but still makes me kinda sad, even if technically from that pov he never had anything, he woke up with nothing left, but it makes so much sense i can't really think of another ending that would make me fully happy and stays on character...i like black a lot so maybe i'm just sad over the fact he's all alone :(
i did not hate the end but did not love either however i wanna coment white and sean's conversation about black.
