so many creatures putting SO much effort into putting ‘special’ fluids that TOTALLY aren’t water through every organ possible to clean them so they can use them again 2 seconds later. like why not simply sit on a damp substrate and pull water through your body by evaporating the extra out pores in your leaves lmaoooo

we need more "demonic possession" stories where actually the human in question has purposely made a timeshare contract. the demon gets certain possession rights but in return is responsible for a variety of life/body maintenance responsibilities (exercise, dental appointments, washing machine repairs, etc) that the human simply does not have the energy to deal with. it works for them

exactly a year ago today, i walked into my local animal shelter with one goal in mind. being a self-confessed sucker, i had gone to the shelter’s website earlier in the week & identified the cat who had been there the longest — a black adult kitty whose stay was 3 1/2 months & counting — and i was not leaving without her
jiji, as i would come to name her, was finishing up ringworm treatment & was thus in isolation away from the other shelter cats. the staff informed me that while she was safe to be adopted out, their shelter policy was that she had to be the last cat i saw that day to avoid any risk of spreading the infection. i assured them that that wasn’t an issue for me — i was here for one cat and one cat only
they repeatedly asked if i was sure about this — i really didn’t at least want to look at any other cats?? my answer didn’t change. yes, i’m sure. i’m here for jiji. no one else.
and so after a bit of paperwork and some wrangling to get her into the cat carrier, jiji came home with me
i quickly learned, however, that the reason jiji had been at the shelter for over three months was that she was, to put it mildly, an asshole. she had been a stray for some time, given birth to kittens very young, and generally had had a rough go of it, so her disposition was understandable, but the fact remained. she was an asshole. upon our first meeting in the shelter, she grabbed onto my foot and started bunny kicking my shoe with gusto. she stole my food as i was eating it. she scratched me so frequently that a coworker noticed & expressed concern.
however, up until this point, i’ve left out a critical detail of the story. a year ago today, possessed by some sort of temporary cat-induced mania, i didn’t adopt one cat. i adopted two.
on the same day, from a totally different shelter, i also adopted a tiny little one eyed kitten named ramona. how i ended up with ramona is another story for another day — the important part is that she was very young and very small, and she joined my hardened stray in my postage stamp sized apartment approximately one hour later
i did my absolute best to follow the standard protocol for introducing cats to each other. i tried to keep ramona in my bedroom and jiji in the living room and to introduce them slowly
but the separation lasted about two days, however, because jiji, my asshole former street cat who viewed my limbs as her favorite scratching posts, took one look at this scruffy little one eyed thing, asked “is anyone going to be this kitten’s mom?”

and didn’t wait for an answer

Trump’s military invasion of Chicago has begun.
Until a few days ago, I had naively imagined that I, in a suburb over 40 miles away from the city proper, would be relatively unaffected by the occupation. Then I found out that ICE and federal troops would be operating out of the Great Lakes Naval Station located a little too close to me for comfort. Federal troops are reportedly already present and will begin “immigration enforcement” operations (in unmarked vehicles with tinted windows) this weekend, to continue for [at least] 45 days.
An emergency protest has been arranged for noon tomorrow, Sept 6.
“Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) Chicago has scheduled an emergency protest, titled “No Federal Crackdown on Chicago,” for 12:00 p.m. on Sept. 6. The meetup location is on the corner of Sheridan Road and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, just outside the Naval Station Great Lakes near suburban North Chicago.” source (PSL link and emphasis added by me)
How to protest safely
Lake County and North Chicago governments have made a joint statement that local law enforcement will not be participating in the federal operations. “We know that this situation may cause fear, especially for immigrant families. For residents seeking assistance or reliable information, we encourage you to connect with trusted organizations such as the North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic, Prairie State Legal Services and Mano-A-Mano Family Resource Center. These groups are available to provide guidance, resources and support during this time. Residents are also reminded that everyone has fundamental rights under the law, regardless of immigration status. Resources on “Know Your Rights” are available through these organizations and through the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, and we urge community members to review and share them.”
How to tell if a warrant is legit
If you see federal law enforcement, military, or ICE interacting with anyone, stay at least 10ft away but get out your phone and start recording video. If you don’t have time or don’t feel safe to stop, write down everything you can: time, place, vehicle model/colour/number, etc.
“If you witness ICE activity, call Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR)’s hotline to report the incident: 855-435-7693
If you witness misconduct by other federal law enforcement or police, call FDLA’s hotline: 1-800-LAW-REP4 / 800-529-7374” (source)
Also report ICE activity to this realtime tracker
If you live nearby North Chicago, please attend that protest tomorrow (Sept 6) at noon on the corner of Sheridan and MLK, outside the Navy base!

when bella didn't want to get married at 18 because she saw how her parents' marriage crumbled and she was opposed to the patriarchal nature of the whole institution, and is bitter about it until the moment she is walking down the aisle, but as soon as she's married she realizes that being mrs. cullen is actually the best thing to ever happen to her and she's immediately ecstatic to have a baby with her husband. the way jacob says "you don't even belong to yourself anymore" about imprinting and is repulsed by the very idea, but then when he imprints he realizes it's actually what he was born to do & nothing could make him happier & he leaves everything behind to live with his mate's family. man once you become aware of the mormon agenda present within the twilight saga it is ALL you're aware of lol

yesterday i put together a big album of all of my craft projects from 2024 and it really wrenched at my heartstrings that the tiger painting was languishing. so this is about 3.5 hours of new work [not counting a blue underpainting for the background that i did in November and didn't document]
im working with evil-quality acrylics so a lot of the white will have vexingly translucent cad yellow medium laid down on top of it later. but it looks a little fun this way too

Little bit funny how people's dislike of Harry Potter has now lapsed into like complete and total dismissal. The other day I was at a flower show and the theme for the displays at this particular flower show were book themed. And of course an admiring crowd went round and did the circuit of displays, ooh-ing and aah-ing at various renditions of The Railway Children and Little Red Riding Hood and taking photos. All extremely cool. And then they got to the Harry Potter section and there was just a complete blank look on a lot of people's faces. They didn't even comment like with the other displays, they simply walked by giving each other what-the-fuck-is-this shrugs. My sister is getting offered the opportunity to go to Harry Potter World by her college for art purposes this year and she said people were so distinctly unpsyched by even the offer of a very cheap coach trip and abysmally low priced tickets that they were already counting themselves out of the trip months in advance. There are stores with discount Gryffindor lunchboxes and scarves piling up desperately by the masses. Little stickers on them denoting price drops. Some stickers on top of others. Nobody gives a fuck about Harry Potter. It's all terribly exciting. I hope the HBO show is the nail in the coffin and we can finally put this shambolic corpse to a stake through the chest rest

Hello, just a quick message to express my admiration for your Dr. Siegfried cosplay.I have a few questions: What brand is your pipe?Do you smoke? And what tobacco?Thank you for posting so much content.(sorry I'm French, my English is sometimes messy!)
Hello and thank you!
I occasionally smoke -- not very often because I don't like how it alters my sense of taste, and even the nicest tobacco will still leave you reeking after more than a bowl. I hate how, if I smoke more than a small bowl, it takes me a week to go back to "normal".
I like Peterson pipes with the "p" lip -- the stem of the pipe is closed, except for a little hole in it, which you smoke through. It gives a smoother smoke, imo, with less of a chance for gross tobacco saliva.

I forget which model I got for Siegfried - I own a couple other Petersons and get them confused.
My tobacco of choice is any type of black cavendish - it has a velvety, almost chocolate-like smell that gives off a good room note. Honestly, I like smelling the fresh tobacco in the jar more than smoking it. Which is probably why I only smoke when I want the nicotine or ritual aspect of it. (Btw, pipes are a pain in the ass to keep lit.)
Pipes are cool props and the paraphernalia is fun. But I don't recommend picking it up as a vice if you can help it. And if you do, moderation, please.

My mom spent like four months embroidering this on and off. She asked me to post it for her here! It's her first time making fanart, and also kind of her first time embroidering anything? I'll read any comments I get out to her.

An orca attacks a billionaire's luxury yacht in the Mediterranean Sea
The man and his bevy of bikini-clad passengers survive the ordeal, floating to a nearby island. They're harassed by stinky monk seals for hours, hungry and dehydrated, their skin burnt bright red by the sun, before they're rescued
Somewhere, 6,000 miles away, Alec Hardison types something into his phone, and a mechanized fish swimming alongside the orca issues a precise series of whistles and clicks. The orca responds in turn. The Leverage opening theme plays as she joyfully leaves the scene of the crime

got a new theory about the mom friend override
it's easier to do something for a friend than your own chores not because you love your friend
but because someone saying "hey can you make this phone call for me?"
does NOT come with the baggage of "i should have done this earlier" and "i can't do this" and "the fact that i haven't done this is proof of how incapable i am" and "if i do this it'll be admitting it was easy all along and i can't face that"
