I think that the sad girl aesthetic as a whole is not necessarily a good thing because of the negative effects. Despite that there are good outcomes and ways for people to connect and bond over similar feelings and experiences. The sad girl aesthetic also offers a place for people to joke and be humorous about their struggles with other people who may also be struggling. Unfortunately, I think the cons outweigh the pros due to the fact that the majority of sad girl content is about being depressed and being dark. I mostly saw dark content revolving suicide, self harm, and sad thoughts, which is not good for people to be seeing whether they struggle with mental health or not.

Again, I have a link to an article by Fredrika Thelandersson where she talks about coping with humor. It is found a lot that sad girls tend to cope with humor. "Within psychology, humor has long been acknowledged as a coping mechanism that can ease an individual’s experiences of stressful events." The article goes into great depth about this topic and why.

This is an article I found that really shows the good side of the sad girl community. SueEllen Mancini the creator of the sad girl creamery, uses her sweet treats to spread awareness and educate more people on mental health and why it is so important. Something as simple as ice cream can make a big difference when it has a message behind it.

Below are the images I have found that represent the humorous side of the sad girl and mental health. These are memes and text posts that are joking around with their own mental state to try to get people to laugh at it or even relate.

This is a meme that pokes fun at emotion and lets people relate to each other through humor on social media. Memes are a big part of social media nowadays and they are easy to make and change based on what you want it to convey.

Here I have pasted the link to an article that explains why the sad girl aesthetic can be detrimental to peoples mental health and make things worse. For example in the text it states that "The Tumblr community marketed being sad as desirable, making someone more interesting". This is causing young people to want to become sad and create mental problems and struggles within themselves in order to fit in and be cool. The article lists more reasons as to why the sad girl aesthetic is not a good thing overall.

Below are my images that show the negative side of the "sad girl" aesthetic. These images are some that may be seen when people become apart of the sad girl community. If you are only seeing these pictures, then you might start to feel worse all around due to the dark words and images you are viewing. Whether you struggle with mental health or not these images do not make anyone feel better regardless.

There is a fog in my brain.
It weighs me down like a sleep demon.

I used to dream about running away. Now I'm choking on my own breath and there is no escape.
Breathe, breathe, breathe...
Like it will make me feel alive again.

Being a girl is hard because you are constantly trying to make your pain look pretty. It's like "I am suffering but am I doing it beautifully?" and "Is my agony and misery good enough for you?"
