Had Hiccup actually died at the end of HTTYD 3, he would have gotten something Stoick didn't: the knowledge that the loved one he sacrificed his life for was safe.

Hey you wanna know something that makes me really fricken emotional?
Most people would leave. Not us. We’re Vikings. We have stubbornness issues.
They’ve been on Berk for seven generations and three hundred odd years. Most of that was spent fighting a war with dragons, and yet they never left their home.
Oh, the irony makes me want to cry. The Vikings of Berk - should the trailers be believed - are leaving Berk in order to protect their dragons. That’s how important the dragons of Berk and the world are to the Vikings. They’d leave their home for the dragons.

A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, jackie paper came no more
And puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, puff could not be brave,
So puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave…
- Puff the Magic Dragon - (x)
