William Hendrix was born and raised in Wayhaven by his single mother, Rebecca. With his father out of the picture and Rebecca’s work entailing frequent and often lengthy absences, Will soon learned to look out for himself. A somewhat restless youth, William attended public school in Wayhaven and the big city where he kept largely to himself, maintaining a small circle of friends and competing in athletics.

After graduation, William was eager to escape the insular town of Wayhaven and see the world. He planned to enlist in the Army, but Rebecca vehemently disagreed with the idea. After several heated arguments, the two agreed on a compromise: Will would pursue a college education first before making his ultimate decision. He attended a local university, majoring in Criminology & Criminal Justice. He found his interest in policing sparked by the experience, pursuing a brief internship with the police department in the big city.

After earning his degree, William applied to the police academy, where he graduated at the top of his class. His wanderlust dampened slightly after college, Will returned to his hometown to join the Wayhaven’s small police force. Following five years on patrol, Will grew anxious. Though he had learned to appreciate Wayhaven’s insular charm, he found himself seriously considering transferring to the big city where he could truly make a difference. With his sudden promotion to Detective, Will decided to stick it out for the time being… until a bizarre murder led to a baptism by fire in the coming weeks.

William was unceremoniously introduced to the supernatural, along with the Agency and enigmatic Unit Bravo. In the aftermath of the false Ethan Murphy’s reign of terror, Will is now firmly rooted in Wayhaven for better or worse… with more danger than he ever could have bargained for.

Professional Skills

People - 37% - William is not the most social and outgoing person, a fact Tina often teases him for. Though he possesses a basic understanding of psychology and is capable of putting someone at ease during interviews in the course of his work, Will is well aware that he’s hardly a “people person”.

Combat/Physical - 66% - William is in excellent physical shape, engaging in a variety of cardio & strength-building exercises on a near-daily basis. He first began training in martial arts at the age of eight, when Rebecca (reluctantly) enrolled him at a local martial arts studio as a positive outlet for his energy. He quickly developed a passion for it and has continued to train and compete in a variety of martial arts & combat sports ever since. Hendrix is a talented marksman, scoring at the top of his class in firearms qualification at the police academy. He continues to visit the range as often as he can to hone his skills and relieve stress, in addition to occasionally competing in local shooting matches. William’s combat prowess was recognized by Wayhaven PD’s Captain Sung even before his promotion to Detective, earning him a position as the force’s de facto firearms & defensive tactics instructor.

Science/Technology - 38% - William is a bit of a gearhead when it comes to basic electronics and mechanical skills. He was a good student in school, taking several advanced science courses, though never pursuing the path toward mastery of any science field.

Deduction/Knowledge - 45% - Despite lacking any extensive formal training to come with his role as Detective, William is a reasonably competent investigator. He is more observant than most and able to think quickly under stress.

Relationship with Rebecca

Despite his mother’s frequent absences, William remained close with her growing up. It was in no small part due to her influence that led him to his career in law enforcement.

Following the revelations regarding the existence of the supernatural, Will had a brief falling out with the woman that saw their relationship strained. However, the two have since managed to reconcile as Will acknowledges the importance of her work and her attempts to keep him safe.

Relationship with Bobby

“Not even for an old friend?”

“Since we’re such ‘old friends’, you should believe me when I say ‘no’.”

Though William and Roberta grew up alongside each other in Wayhaven, they were little more than acquaintances until their freshman year at university. The two hit it off, becoming study partners and friends before they began dating. The relationship lasted over two years and proved to be the most serious Will had ever been a part of.

However, the two clashed when Will discovered that Bobby was stealing his schoolwork and stirring up drama behind his back, leading to their break-up soon after. As luck would have it, Bobby also returned to Wayhaven after graduation. William doesn’t give the woman the pleasure of actively resenting her, doing his best to remain professional and keep her at a cool distance (with varying degrees of success)… even when the intrusive reporter does her best to spite him.

Love Interest: Ava du Mortain

“Maybe you should… It would be safer. For you. For me.”

William and Ava had a rather unconventional first meeting, ending with the latter soaked in pepper spray following a tense nighttime encounter. Once the two were properly introduced the following day, it took little time for them to begin butting heads on how to properly run the investigation. However, after the true nature of Unit Bravo and the Agency were revealed to Will, the two were able to establish a civil and amicable working relationship, alongside the stirrings of mutual attraction.

William admires Ava’s steadfast determination and the protectiveness she clearly feels for her team. Underneath her icy and occasionally overbearing exterior, he has glimpsed a warmth and depth that drew him in and hasn’t released him since. Will finds Ava imposing, even intimidating, but not for reasons most would assume. For someone who has dedicated himself to protecting others, Ava is one of the few people able to make William feel truly safe.

As Unit Bravo has been stationed in Wayhaven indefinitely and Will now has a position with the Agency, the two have finally managed to acknowledge one another as teammates and colleagues… though both are reluctant to give into the more intimate feelings they share for one another.
