It was a 2 mile run morning.....nothing special other than I was doing a poor job of lifting my feet off the ground. Tired mind equaled tired body. Yesterday was a bit of a poopy emotion day....stayed home from work hiding with my grief. My friend left me presents of care on my desk (I have a thing for children's food when I'm not well).
Back to my paperwork. Happy Friday all!

Headlamp fail on dark trails. I forgot to recharge it this weekend....oops. 3 miles run, 2 of which were dark but for the light of Grace and her Noxgear vest. Yes, I remembered I have a flashlight on my phone but that was more harsh on my eyes than the dark. Thankfully this is a wide and well cared for trail that I know.....and I kind of liked it dark.

Running music
@spitlogic requested that I share what music I run to. It's a very eclectic list and depends on my mood in the morning. Let's name some I've been listening to the last month :
Opium Moon
Prince's new album : piano and a microphone 1983
Queen
Peter Frampton Live
Jacob Collier: Djesse
Michael Jackson
Shirley Bassey
Pink Floyd
Joyce Didonato
Earth Wind and Fire
......or nothing at all but the wind, the water, birds, and my feet on the ground.
Tagging @passamontanhas, @sns112, @snapthistiger. What do you all work out to?

Beautiful 5 mile run next to the mouth of the Columbia River this morning. There were Great Blue Herons and eagles in the trees, sea lions, river otters, and all of the ducks in the water. Won't be running the beach as they are coastal flood advisories during high tide when of be able to be there.....so walking along a more northern beach (Grace will run) instead.
Astoria is a sweet little town. I'll be exploring it more sometime.

A dark and damp 4 mile morning. This was one of those runs where it feels like you're gliding smoothly and effortlessly from the first step,so I went further than normal for a weekday morning. The last half mile hurt though....glutes and hamstrings were feeling fatigued and sore.....but I didn't stop.
Tomorrow morning I'm headed down to Astoria, OR for the night. Cross your fingers that it won't be pouring out on the beaches so I can side trip for a beach run at Cannon Beach.

The morning was lightening up at the end of our trail run this morning. I love this time of day. It's surprised me that I am no longer listening to anything other than my feet, my breath, and the woods on my morning runs these days.....not in the woods in the dark. My surprise is that it's not impacting my run....I don't get bored, I'm staying at a reasonable pace, but I do have do so a little work to quiet "thinking" and return to mindfulness of the run.
Happy point as well is that I'm getting better/less fatigued on hills. My new neighborhood, or end of town, there are hills galore! Small victory.

I hadn't run in 5 days thanks to a chest cold and a lack of motivation. Back on the trails this morning for 2.5 miles run. A woman the trail thanked me profusely for covering my headlamp as I ran by, "you're such a good person, thank you, thank you!"....just made me feel guilty for all of the times I forgot to cover it...oops.
There is also great fascination over Grace's lit Noxgear vest. Interesting to me that so many peoole seem to believe that lights are only about their ability to see in the dark and not about being seen by others in the dark. If people knew how poorly I see in the dark, they'd think twice about making themselves more visable. Holding a tiny flashlight to the ground when crossing a busy road isn't enough....I want disco lights people!

Dark trails are dark. Short morning run.....was headed down to Marine Park but a loooong train came along and trapped me on the trail. Instead of the 2.6 of out and back to the park, I decided the 1.3 of trail was fine and done.
Running to the sound of the creek next to me was quieting for my soul. My sleep has become filled with the grief I tuck away during the day. I dream of losing my mother and wake still surprised she's gone.

Even though my little buddy, Grace, did not want to get up this morning, we did. Then we ran a bit on the waterfront.

Trail run today. Keeping it short until my foot/ankle feels 100%, knowing how long it can take to heal and how quickly reinjury happens. It's at about 85%.....not painful, just a bit of an annoyance.
Have I mentioned how much I love the trails behind my home?

A quick mile run in the neighborhood this morning. I rolled my right able off a tiny, 2" curb days ago and the 4 miles run on new years day let me know it's a bit hurt, most likely at the peroneal brevis insertion on my foot. I'm using my Penetrex cream on it and being cautious (thus only 1 mile this morning).
It's nice to see someone gave Mr Twain a care for the cold.

1 tiny trail mile in the dark. I've decided I prefer my Black Diamond headlamp to the kogalla lights; it still throws off a lot of light and it's less cumbersome.

Things I never tire of: Grace's wiggly butt, this view of the San Juans, and fantastic runs. I've set a January commitment to run daily....kicking back in the running autopilot in my brain.
And yes, this was one of the best runs I've had in a while. Calm and seemingly effortless. Grace had a wonderful time running in and out of the ditches full of water....thankfully clean rain water 😄....I ran 4.25 miles and she most likely ran 7 or 8 miles with so many things to smell! Happy puppy is now passed out and happy me is in a hot bath.
Happy New Year. Make it count...... if you're up for it, otherwise it's alright to take a nap too.

Little Miss Grace and I did the running thing this morning up the truck route into Fairhaven. It wasn't quite peaceful, but also wasn't muddy as the trails would have been due to this morning's drip factor.
