If you've got a friend that you know can't remember shit, and you feel like it'd be rude to remind them about something that's coming up beforehand just in case they did remember something they signed up for and now you feel bad for implying that you don't trust their memory, and you know that there's a 90% chance that they won't remember the thing unless you remind them, here's a tip from someone with a Can't Remember Shit Disease:

Instead of simply reminding them about the event, just ask them about a specific detail involved in it instead. If you know that The Thing is on next week's friday, and the last moment you need confirmation whether they're coming or not is this thursday, instead of texting

"Hey you remember we have the thing on next week's friday, right?"

you can text some specific question - regardless of whether the info itself is important to you or not - that clarifies when the event is, like

"Hey are you going to be driving to the thing next week's friday, or is someone giving you a ride? We'll need to plan parking beforehand."

Because in case they did remember the thing, they can just answer you for the question you asked. And if they didn't remember and go "OH SHIT IT'S NEXT WEEK I COMPLETELY FORGOT", you still gave them the reminder they needed just the same.

I don't personally get insulted when people gently remind me that they know that I can't remember shit, and most self-aware memory problem people don't either, but if you're worried that it would feel rude to remind people about things you're worried they might've forgotten, this is a good way to circumvent that.

I am BEGGING people to actually learn the true definitions of abuse terms like gaslighting, dogwhistling, lovebombing, grooming, etc. because yes, they are often misused and to some degree have lost all meaning, but they are still legitimate terms for abuse tactics and people need to learn what they actually mean so that they can better understand what victims are trying to say, instead of just going "that's a tiktok word!!!" and completely discrediting someone's actual trauma

Tariffs and the death of De Minimis.

Short version: If you're in the US and want to order from me, it's now or never. I will be adding a few more pendants over the next week, but this is it.

If you're not familiar, De Minimis was exemption that meant packages under $800 didn't get import duties. That's going away on the 29th August 2025. (Or at least, at the moment it is.) And the current advice is they may be imposing *$80-200* fees on packages while they work things out. (Or, they may not. No, they won't tell you how they're deciding which packages.)

Obviously, this is impossible and is going to obliterate most international small businesses that have US customers.

Again, there's been so much back and forth on this that for all I know, they could cancel it on the evening of August 28th, or it could just go back to 10%, or anything.

But at the moment, I have to assume I can no longer sell to US customers after mid month.

My current cut off is night of 12th (US time)/morning of August 13th (UK time) to go out on August 13th.

This isn't going to be like Xmas shipping where people go "Just send it, I don't mind if it's a little late" because we're not talking late gifts, we're talking $$$ fees being added *while* it's in transit.

The earlier you can get your orders in, the better - right now shipping is taking 9-11 days, this allows for that plus 5 days wiggle room but I really, really don't want to push it. (If this wasn't me essentially losing my job, I'd have cut off earlier but I'm trying to do what I can before I have to close down.)

If you’re Latino/Latina, and you get a traffic ticket, I provide this information, free of advice:

ICE detains people with Hispanic names; they have made frequent mistakes and arrested citizens, green card holders, and others with valid visas, on top of undocumented people.

ICE monitors some traffic dockets and goes to courthouses to pick people up if they come in person to court.

Traffic tickets are mostly prepayable.

If prepayment has to be made in person, then it might be nice to come at a low-traffic time. Most courthouses post their normal docket schedule somewhere online, and you can see, for example, when there might not be too many people in the courthouse.

Deportation has been extremely fast lately. For people picked up during the week, in my jurisdiction, none were left in the country by Friday afternoon. It is especially quick for the Northern Triangle (Mexico and nearby countries).
