Soy Luna Season 2 Episodes 1-30 Thoughts

Okay, so I've been going through season 2 much slower than season 1 because my free time is limited and things move super fast on my days off from work.

But beginning with my thoughts on this season and its plot points so far:

It's so fucked up that Sharon is faking Ambar's past just to preserve a fortune that isn't rightfully hers. Lili and Bernie didn't die so they could leave everything to their sister/sister-in-law, it belongs to their daughter

It feels like Simon's really been on the backburner this season so far, and I miss seeing more of him.

This also applies to most of the side characters, but I don't care about them as much lol.

I noticed Luna has more one-on-one scenes with her mom than dad this season, and I feel like it's the writers trying to make up for her confiding in her dad rather than her mom like 4/5 times more in season 1.

Adrenaline is pretentious with their "we don't show up to competitions or put limits on our art like this", and I don't get why Ramiro likes Fernanda so much. I do find it funny that Ramiro starts shitting on Matteo once he joins though, it's cathartic

I know they want us to feel bad about Matteo's whole "I can't let Luna get close to me because I am leaving soon" shtick, but it's not romantic or cute. It is just stupid. Luna would be understanding if Matteo gave the whole truth. Plus, it would be much easier on her than all the lies that he creates.

Nina and Gaston are very cute, but I am worried for them with this Oxford storyline. I wish we got more scenes of them though. It feels like their only big moment was singing together.

Ambar has been clearly messed up by Sharon, because despite knowing her alleged past that fills in all of the gaps, she still feels the need to compete with Luna and make her miserable. I just feel bad for her and am dreading how she'll respond once the truth about Luna comes out.

This twins storyline is already a headache, and I am dreading seeing what it'll progress into.

Pedro looks younger with longer hair, but I think he looked better with the shorter hair in season 1

Juliana is so extra and the way she just insults people for not meeting her standards is annoying as fuck. She has very exaggerated physical gestures that make it very bothersome to look at the screen when she is on it.

I feel like this season has more drama and less excitement in it overall, which makes me less motivated to watch. I attribute this to less Simon tbh

I like the main plot/secrets of Soy Luna more than Violetta, and the show feels more grounded than Violetta. However, the side characters and romantic pairings in Violetta are way more captivating. I am hoping upcoming plotlines are more engaging tbh.

Sebastian is such a weird recurring character, and him being an actual youtuber makes him feel more weird to me for some reason

Ending this post with the fact that when I first saw Matteo in a wig imitating Luna, I was drinking water and ended up choking on it from laughing hysterically

So I was telling my friend about the overall plot (and side plots) of Soy Luna and she asked for an example of one of the songs, and I ended up giving this one. I need to get more sleep because Valiente would've been a much better choice. But I didn't even think of it at the time

And how she described it: "This feels like a manic pixie dream girl song" and reading the lyric translations, I can't even disagree lol

She also stated that Nina came off as quirky with the wig but just really shy without it lol

Oh and the last notable things she pointed out: Ambar's reaction to Nina taking off the wig is funny

WAIT NO, SHE ALSO DISSED TAMARA'S OUTFIT "It looks like a prison jumpsuit mixed with a Met Gala outfit"

Soy Luna Eps 61-80 Thoughts

Okay, I forgot to write and post this earlier bc life is so busy and i hate that i don't remember all of the major threads in as much detail as I'd like. I've already been on season 2 for over a week, but I haven't watched too much of it

I'm glad to see Simon be mature and accept Luna doesn't love him the way he loves her even it hurts him.

Not feeling Luna x Matteo at all. I literally just see very little chemistry and even Luna liking him feels like it came out of nowhere

Ambar had some dumb schemes but none felt absolutely nonsensical and as excessive as Ludmila's, which is good

Tamara not catching onto Mariano's shit sooner isn't fully surprising bc he's her ex. But it was frustrating bc he was so obvious with how pushy and uncompromising he was

I find it hard to remember/care about the side couples outside of Nina x Gaston

The ending of the season felt strange, and the direction of the season overall with the competition felt a bit confused and unsure of itself in the end

Soy Luna eps 51-60 thoughts

Ramiro's personality is honestly what I would've written for Matteo instead of how they've written Matteo. He has the "overconfident guy with a soft side" personality done much better and less frustrating. I don't exactly like him with Yam, but as a character, I do. I guess he's helped by not being a fuckboy who's treated like he could have any girl he wants, unlike Matteo. It's also telling he's friends with all of the other guys, but Matteo is only friends with Gaston.

Delfina and Pedro is something that works better than Delfina and Gaston, but Pedro looking 26+ (and also similar to Tomas lol) makes it hard for me to support him with Delfina who at oldest comes off as like 18. Simon and Nico I have an easier time buying as people who graduated school not that long ago, so them being with the group doesn't feel as weird for me

Daniela being horrible is awful, because honestly, her and Simon could've been cute together. Also, her eyes are really pretty and I was distracted by them a lot in the scenes she was in

Ambar's smug face whenever she has a plan/believes her plan is successful is hilarious to me at this point lol

Tamara's ex reminds me of dudes who are like "where's my hug" to random female acquaintances

Mora and Ricardo developing interest in each other is honestly something I find pretty realistic. A lot of feminine artsy women are into video games despite what people on the internet think. Plus she's a fashion designer, so it makes sense she'd connect with him over the character designs for his game. And she's clearly someone who wouldn't be an uncomfortable presence in Nina's life, so I'll root for them to get together

Soy Luna Ep 32-51 Thoughts

Yeah, I really am getting through this show fast. I used the 4 days I had off this week to binge the show lol. I normally have 3 days off, but I took one day of vacation because I was exhausted. I don't have any normal hobbies because I work nights, so I'm stuck with media consumption and cooking for the most part.

WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT KISS, MATTEO? It's not even a good "surprise kiss". Luna looked traumatized and was clearly angry afterwards. Compare it to Violetta and Leon where she was very happy it happened, and it's insane how they want us to root for Matteo. I can tell they're trying to tone him down, but I still don't like him. The whole bravado aspect of his personality is tiresome and not cute or charming

Simon contradicted himself with the "you won't lose me, Luna" after seeing the kiss. But I'll cut him a break bc it's tough to be friends with people you have feelings for, especially when you're only like 18. His new GF, Daniella, doesn't seem like a good person though, sadly. I hope his future relationships are much better

Sharon Benson is a horrible person, and I genuinely feel bad for Ambar for the absence of any parental love or concern in her life. It's clear Ambar sabotages Luna because she envies her and sees her as someone who gets/has everything she (Ambar) wants. Ambar's schemes are way less ludicrous and more believable than Ludmilla's.

Gaston having a bunch of girls chase after him is honestly super believable and funny tbh. He actually reminds me of one dude I knew who was really well-liked for being handsome and smart in high school. Also, one of the few popular people I knew who didn't post everything on IG and judge others based on that

Tino and Cato's idiocy is annoying, I've said this already. But I want to see more of the side characters who are actually interesting. I will give Soy Luna credit that it gives the side characters more plotlines than Violetta seemingly

I do not have strong feelings on Jim and Nico, but I can kind of buy it. Jim still has more chemistry with Yam.

Yam, on the other hand, I cannot see as being into Ramiro. Sorry, but she gives off 100% lesbian vibes. No way she's into men lol. Jim I can see being bi, but no way I see that with Yam.

Ricardo and Tamara I just do not see working out, but it sucks that Tamara's ex won't respect their relationship and give them space. I can already tell they're trying to set him up with Mora for the future with them having the whole gaming interest in common

It's realistic but also kinda sad how Nina's whole relationship with Xavi fizzled out the moment they could only talk online, but it reminded me a lot of how many friendships I've had online fizzle out

And now I have to sleep and prep for work tomorrow night, it's going to be a long week.

I forgot which episode this was, but Nina presenting Gaston's photo for the photography class with the greyscale instantly made me think of the gigachad meme

Soy Luna Eps 18-31 Thoughts

Once again, I'm just giving generalized thoughts bc I'm watching these so fast that I can't really compile episode-by-episode thoughts without slowing down watching the show

Even with them putting the small hints of Lutteo, I am not excited for them being together at all. Matteo's smug face makes me want to punch him

I'm not really a fan of most of the side couples they seem to be setting up (Jim and Nico, Yam and Ramiro, etc.), but Nina and Gaston seem like they'd be cute. It sucks that the whole Delfina pretending to be Felicity plotline exists

Delfina pretending to be Felicity and gaslighting Gaston whenever he has questions about Felicity makes me hate her. Delfina needs to accept that he doesn't like her

Tino and Cato's storyline keeps getting dumber, but them being stranded in Mexico is at least funny on paper

It's kind of insane how this character (Roberto) who had such big actions affecting the main character's life was killed off as a joke in the third episode just to give the bit characters a reason to exist in the plot

My favorite song as of Episode 31's ending is still Valiente. Luna and Simon's voices go together perfectly. No other song has stuck with me so far..

Soy Luna Eps 6-18 Thoughts

Okay this won't have as many direct events as my last post bc I watched these episodes in between work, either after coming back from 12 hours of work or before going to work after waking up.

But

Ambar having Sharon as her only parental figure makes me feel for her as Sharon only cares about prestige/appearance and has no love for her. The scenes where she looks sad after seeing Luna with her loving parents are always hard to watch

Miguel and Monica are amazing parents, and I am happy that while Monica is the stricter parent, the show never once frames her as being in the wrong or has Miguel undermine her. They truly seem like two happily married people who love their daughter. Miguel being such a good dad is also cute to see after how bad and creepy German in Violetta came off

Matteo is not growing on me. HIs scenes with Luna and Ambar make me hate him with how he toys with both of them in different ways. Even his scenes with Gaston annoy me, because Gaston seems much more intelligent and considerate than him.

Simon on the other hand is super sweet. Him and Jazmin would actually be interesting even if all she does is find him cute. I do know that Luna clearly doesn't see him the way he sees her, but nothing about him screams "I'm only friends with her because I want to date her" or anything along those lines

I have a hard time buying Pedro is supposed to be like 18-19 the way Nico and Simon are. He looks WAYYYY older than everyone else

Cato and Tino feel like time wasters, I don't like their bit roles at all

Soy Luna S1 E1-5 thoughts

Sorry if I compare things a lot to Violetta, but let's go:

I love Violetta, but I feel like Luna is way better acted and is easier to emotionally get attached to as a character. I was already hoping the best for her 1 episode in. I know when she'll inevitably cry out of sadness in the show, I will too. Her having tears seeing Simon come to Buenos Aires already made me super emotional

Jim and Yam have strong lesbian vibes compared to ANYONE on Violetta and I get why people ship them. I especially cannot see Yam being attracted to men lol.

Luna's parents are very sweet, and I'm glad there's no "but they're not my biological parents so I'm not content with them"

Matteo is insufferable and I hate him. His overconfidence is not charming, just annoying. Entitlement is one of the least attractive qualities to have in anyone. He has no endearing qualities, he makes Tomas look perfect. As much as Ambar can be bad, she doesn't deserve to have her feelings toyed with by him. I don't get why he's the popular one girls are obsessed with, Gaston is better looking and seems to be way more charismatic

I love Simon, it's hard to put into words. But there are some people who come off as super likable easily, and he's one of them Seeing Gregorio, Rafe Palmer, Marotti, and Pablo all back as completely different characters is so jarring. I feel like the two hospice nurses were solely created to give roles to the actors

Season 1 had this chaotic energy that Season 2 and 3 lacked that makes it very memorable

It's kinda hard to put into words, but it feels like because the writers had no idea where they were going, they kinda just threw together a bunch of scenes.

A classic example of the chaotic energy is this scene:

Something about scenes like this added to the show, and it feels like the show got a bit less comedically whacky in season 2 and 3, and more melodramatic

Pablo Espinosa vs Tomas

Okay tell me why Pablo Espinosa's 2020 pandemic covers of Tomas's songs sound wayyy better to me than the versions recorded for the show in 2012.

The covers do have a slight somber feel to them that makes me kinda sad for Pablo though.

I'll explain why:

According to Samuel Nascimento, Pablo Espinosa never was really happy in Buenos Aires and felt out of place there. I know it's just his word, but it explains so much about Tomas's character and the general discomfort/lack of chemistry he has with the other characters

But I speculate why there's this sad energy is because staying on Violetta would've been more beneficial to his career seeing how much Tini and, to a far lesser extent, Jorge Blanco blew up following the show. And I mean that in terms of their musical careers. Pablo has mainly had acting roles after his departure from Violetta, but from what I can tell about him, he also prefers the musical side of things
