Her rescuer was a self-apparently talented hunter, dancing around the battlefield with an intensely lethal opponent with a ridiculous smile on his face. He wasn't exactly amazing at dodging, but he shook off each brutal attack like a love tap.

While plenty of hunters certainly enjoyed the thrill of the hunt, most would still grow serious in the face of a repeat killer. Focus, don't get cocky, as to avoid being torn in half.

Yet Nagi enjoyed himself here more than anywhere else in this world.

He was, to be blunt, a battle-crazy idiot.

But he hadn't reached this level of performance by ignoring his surroundings. The moment Ratha flapped his wings for the last time to turn towards the ground, he backed off from his attack. Hand to his brow to block the sun, he looked up into the sky at the splayed wings of the Rathalos.

Nagi whistled softly to himself. The two were quite cool, actually.

Before him, in his lower periphery, the molten Tigrex was rearing up to lunge, same as it had towards Mari.

But he had the impression that the little miss was going to do something about that.

"GHHHK!" THE THRUST OF A MOLTEN TIGREX' TALONS is easily enough to knock the wind out of her chest, and send her flying, belly scraping across the earth as she tumbles. Years' worth of frequent practice is what spared her from a broken elbow as she landed, but much to her dismay, the tigrex was eager to go in for the kill as soon as the opening had been made.

Just her luck, huh. Scrambling onto her back, Mari raised her greatsword broadside facing forwards, prepared to guard in a last ditch effort to keep something between herself and crushing jaws. Ratha was racing in from behind, but he hadn't recovered fast enough from his own topple—

When the metallic ring of a shield sounds, as a new face intervenes and barricades the offending monster. Mari had to blink the dust from her eyes and wipe the sweat from her brow before she processed it; the figure of a hunter, just able to keep the beast at bay with sheer force alone.

Even if she herself was quite strong, Mari would have gawked if she could. But, she doesn't waste her time by doing so, shoving the blade of her sword into the dirt to use as a crutch as she heaves herself back onto her feet. "A little scraped up, but more or less okay! Thanks!"

Dammit. He's really laying on thick that she was a youngin' in comparison (which, she was,) but Mari held back a small amount of pride, sheathing her greatsword and rushing back to Ratha. The monstie is like a frantic mother, his shriek dying down into a gentle warble while Mari ushered herself into the saddle.

"I'm okay Red, I'm okay. We're gonna cover," Mari hurriedly reassures him as she adjusts her seat in the saddle. Their hearts beat in tandem, the glow of her kinship stone beginning to strengthen while Ratha prepares to lunge into the sky. "Let's give em death from above!"

The prospective individual. The one who'd been prying into their elusive affairs and presented himself as such. Eito, a mortal teenager.

Fate sat down at the negotiating table opposite the young man. He measured the person's reaction to his own age and stature.

Beyond the need for this person to demonstrate their aptitude, there was something else that slightly interested him. From the outside, any actions of Cosmo Entelechia uncovered by a discerning person such as this would appear as though they were trying to destroy the world. This cast a reasonable shadow over the intentions behind any offer of membership, not just from this person.

However,

"It is fundamentally unimportant what your desired goals are, as long as you are useful enough."

His tone was level and emotionless.

Greetings would certainly be meaningless at a negotiation such as this, and so he did not bother with them.

"Regardless, it is possible you are under a false impression, that being the source of your interest in joining us. If your desire is to cause deep suffering to others, you may find this job extremely unsatisfying."

There was Tsukuyomi, of course, among his assistants. But her soul longed to kill, without any particular concern with the thoughts and feelings of those in the way of her blade. She did not want to hurt people. She just wanted to kill people.

"B-but, Asuna...!" the boy had some obvious reservations about leaving his big sister to fight alone.

It certainly wouldn't be the first time, but that had never been against an actual threat to her. It had been demons, summoners, entities who she had an unbreakable advantage against and who couldn't hurt her. She was only fourteen years old, he couldn't-

The wind ran imperceptible across the scar on his cheek.

Look in front of you.

She wasn't a vulnerable person to protect. She had demanded he watch and see- that she was a capable partner, who could stand by his side, and fight.

She had asked him, and shown him, and he'd said he was watching carefully. But there was no trust if he only left her to fights that she couldn't lose. Right now, he had to-

Let her handle it, and just go.

Negi turned and ran, hoping onto his staff on one foot with a running start. "You have midterms soon, so please don't overexert yourself!"

A molten Tigrex was nothing to be trifled with, certainly not one who had already claimed a squad of veteran's lives.

That being said, Nagi hadn't a clue why it looked like the guild had sent a teenage girl. She was lucky that Rathalos hadn't taken the easy food and gotten out of dodge- oh, no, it had rider's gear, didn't it.

Had saving a wyvern and its princess been on his bucket list? Ah well, he'd add it just to cross it off!

Just as the monster next lunged at the young lady, he dropped into the fray, slamming his shield into the wyvern's face with the force of his full body weight. If he'd mistimed it, he would've died.

His arm screamed like it was going to fall off, but the Tigrex hadn't caused a scratch to the girl, now reeling from the painful collision.

All the same, he turned back to Mari with a grin.

"Are you ok, little miss? I hope you're not hurt! You and your big red birdie should get out of here- woah!" The ridiculous man let out a laugh as the dazed wyvern took a swing at him. "You really woke up on the wrong side of the bed, huh big guy?"

An eardrum shattering roar answered him.

Nagi recovered from the headache with a cheeky sigh.

"Now now, you're not supposed to swear in front of kids!" That was his parting cool one-liner, before throwing himself headlong into combat with the raging monster.
