I just wanted to let y'all know that while Psyduck and I haven't exactly been active here in terms of IC, due to unfortunate events earlier in the month, we're always down to chat OOC! We're also always up to sending/receiving asks because that's genuinely the easiest way for me to interact with people using Psyduck tbh.

Mississippi Law + Bluesky & How It Can (Or Will) Eventually Affect Everyone

Long story short, Bluesky is unavailable to Mississippi due to age verification requirements. Why is it affecting just Bluesky and not websites like Facebook, Twitter/X, YouTube, Tumblr, etc.? I have no clue. I can almost guarantee that it's only a matter of time before other websites get affected, though. Here are some screencaps, links, and whatnot down below that show what I'm talking about.

However, apparently Mississippi isn't the only state affected by this as stated in this Bluesky post here. Long story short, there are some people who have AT&T and don't even live in Mississippi are affected by this, too. There is also another post stating an alternate way to post onto Bluesky for those who live in Mississippi.

With all of that being said and done, about the only think I can think of is for everyone to possibly look into a VPN to be able to gain access to websites that you're normally not able to get to because of all these laws and what have you. I also DEFINITELY recommend getting one that's outside of the Fourteen Eyes, keeps zero logs, and doesn't track. That is, of course, if you are able to get your hands one. Luckily, most seem to have lots of deals going on year-round so that's definitely a biiiiig help.

It also probably wouldn't hurt to go ahead and switch to the likes of Mozilla Firefox (or Tor if you're okay with slowness) and then head over to about:preferences#privacy (Settings > Privacy and Security) and make sure that the Firefox Data Collection and Use looks something like this.

I also 100% recommend you guys to just use Incognito Mode if/when possible and go through Settings > Privacy and Security to disable anything pertaining to tracking, selling your information, deleting your history + cookies, etc.

Sorry for reblogging this. I just want to give my two cents on all of this because, in all honesty, I absolutely fucking hate these terms. Why? Because of the simple fact that people keep changing the definitions of what PROSHIP and ANTISHIP means. And this is super frustrating.

At the end of the day, it's not so much on whether or not a person is "proship" or "antiship" as much as it one simple thing: It is okay to romanticize and fetishize problematic topics such as paraphilia, kinks, dubcon, noncon, child marriages, etc.? Is it okay to romanticize and fetishize illnesses disabilities, disorders, skin color, etc.? Have you done your research on these topics?

Another set of questions you ask yourself is: Is this problematic topic important to the story? Can the piece work without this problematic topic? Have you done your research on these topics?

The reason for these questions is because some people think it's okay to romanticize and fetishize things without doing their research. Some people think it's a "one size fits all" kind of deal when one size does not fit all. Some people think that "fiction CANNOT AND DOES NOT affect reality" in any way, shape, or form despite there being people that were never taught to separate fiction from reality.

I think, at the end of the day, people need to just simply do the following things:

Stop using the terms "proship" and "antiship" because everybody keeps changing the definitions.

State whether or not they are able to separate fiction from reality and understand that doing such shit in the real world isn't okay.

Properly tag their stuff to make it easier for people to search, blacklist, whitelist, and categorize everything.

Treat others the way you want to be treated.

Not all trauma survivors are "proship" and not everyone who is "antiship" are puritans. People need to understand this and it's a big fucking problem.

also to add to my last post, it's stuff like that that i'm really hesitant to rp with proshippers. when i was in spaces where adults & minors were mixed together, that was a much more complicated topic there than it would be here in a space full of adults for instance — because many of those proshippers would try to share overly explicit material with minors and try to defend it by putting it all under the "proship" umbrella — so, i hope people understand why i might not want much to do with them because of that

i'm a little more on the fence about it these days bc .. a lot of the Tumblr rp'ers i've come across that are proshippers here, seem to treat proshipping a LOT differently than what i was used to seeing before. yknow, i can definitely get behind writing & exploring dark topics as long as it's done carefully and with the sensitivity those topics deserve — but for one, i just never really.. felt compelled to attach a label to that in the first place? usually if i have a character that delves into those sorts of themes, i'll still put a disclaimer for it so that people can be in the know, but i never thought to call that "proship" bc to me, that's not... proship. that's just writing. with dark themes. 😭

so i'm a little confused on that term now ig bc it kinda seems to me like everyone treats it differently. either way frankly it just gives me the heebie jeebies bc of past experiences and i don't trust it

I think I'm going to put all of my RPC blogs (this blog and @psyducksgfx) on an indefinite hiatus of sorts until I can get past the whole grieving bullshittery pertaining to my mom's unexpected and untimely death. Because it's either that or I delete everything but my personal blog and that's it. I just can't handle it right now. So I'm going to remove the Saved Credentials from Firefox so I won't be tempted to log into them anytime soon and figure out WTF I want to do with everything.
