Also @ the British person who was surprised US parks kill people: I used to go on holiday often to a very beautiful beach in Cornwall that has unfortunately become very popular with tourists who routinely ignore the fact that it’s quite a dangerous beach. You have to walk down a steep and treacherous multiple km trail and then climb down a cliff to get to it. There is an extremely strong tide and it’s not possible to leave the beach at high tide. Over a period of 5 years I witnessed or heard of:
Multiple people being swept out to sea, because they thought ‘oh I’ll swim in that patch of sea that looks calmer’ (sign of extremely dangerous rip current). One of them drowned and a second dry drowned after being airlifted to hospital.
Parents letting their toddler run over the cliff edge into a crevice filled with roiling water. The toddler survived only because a local swam into the crevice and held the kid above the water, receiving lacerations and other injuries in the process.
People letting their dogs *run* at full speed down the cliff path, which led to an older local lady being knocked off the cliff onto her head and having to be airlifted.
Someone died after stepping backwards off the cliff trying to take a selfie.
Many families climbing down the cliff in flip flops with full cool boxes and beach chairs and tents and nearly falling in the process.
Several families attempting to take pushchairs down the cliff.
An unaccompanied toddler being cut off on the sand island by a very fast incoming tide. We carried him back to shore, spent 10 mins trying to find the mother, who then screamed at us for touching her child.
Tourists completely blocking the road in the village with their parking, literally leaving vehicles in the road, so an ambulance and the coastguard were unable to attend an emergency.
Tourists can be fucking stupid, especially when the sea is involved. People, especially in my opinion, wealthier people, see rural and wild areas as some sort of personal theme park and often have little to no knowledge or respect of nature and the people who actually live around or in it.
Any conspiracy theory about people going missing in National Parks is automatically silly to me. Like "Why are National Parks such a hotbed of disappearances???" because they're full of idiots. You've got thousands of people who've never pissed outdoors in their life wandering around the woods/desert/mountain with zero experience and zero gear and zero understanding that this place can kill them. You don't see as many disappearances in wild areas because people don't go to them unless they have some background knowledge. Whereas you get tour buses full of old folks and suburban families shuttling people into National Parks 365 days a year. If you took the same amount of buffoons and dropped them in the actual wilderness the disappearances would be significantly higher than at the parks. Use your brain.

the idea that restrooms, locker rooms, etc need to be single-sex spaces in order for women to be safe is patriarchy's way of signalling to men & boys that society doesn't expect them to behave themselves around women. it is directly antifeminist. it would be antifeminist even if trans people did not exist. a feminist society would demand that women should be safe in all spaces even when there are men there.

it literally drives me insane that so many companies refuse to send rejection emails like it’s disgraceful tbh. you put so much time and effort into putting together an application and they can’t even be bothered tell you via some measly automated message that you didn’t get the job. you’re expected to just infer
