My favorite thing right now is forward-facing Brewer's Blackbirds. Just so you know.
If you are a bird photographer who submits images to ebird/macaulay please upload more forward facing birds. For my enjoyment. Thank you.

Here, a cheater course on caring for natural fibers!
1. Wool. Treat it like it has the delicate constitution of a Victorian lady and the conviction that baths are evil of a 17th century noble. (If I get in WATER my PORES will OPEN and I will CATCH ILL AND DIE.)
2. Cotton; easygoing. Will shrink a bit if washed and dried hot.
3. Silk; people think it’s like wool and has the constitution of a fashionably dying of consumption Victorian lady, but actually it’s quite tough. Can be washed in an ordinary washer, and either tumbled dry without heat or hung to dry.
4. Linen; it doesn’t give a shit. Beat the hell out of it. Historically was laundered by dousing it in lye and beating the shit out of it with wooden paddles, which only makes it look better. The masochist of the natural fiber world. Beat the fuck out of it linen doesn’t care. Considerably stronger than cotton. Linen sheet sets can last literal decades in more or less pristine shape because of that strength. The most likely natural fiber to own a ball gag.

observation: among a certain subset of tumblr users, the term “blorbo” has become unchic, but the concept it describes is still important; and so it has been replaced with “The Character”

Despite the name, most hagfish cannot cast spells or brew magical decoctions in caldrons.
They can, however, produce copious quantities of slime, which in some ways is just as good.

not sure i you're looking for advice, so feel free to ignore me if not!
one of the biggest reasons birds avoid a bath is if they dont feel safe from predators. if it's in an open, exposed area or put up on a pedestal this could be the issue. similarly if it's near a window, they may be seeing movements inside the house. an ideal spot is flat on the ground, in a shaded place near some tall grass or bushes where they can quickly hide if a predator comes by. if you're wanting to get a good view, the best placement for the birds is often the worst for the humans unfortunately, so it's a bit of a balancing act.
cornell lab of ornithology also recommends putting some rocks in to give them more footing (haven't tried this personally) and adding a machine that automatically drips or sprays water, since it's often the sound of moving water, not the sight that attracts them. you can find solar-powered ones online that will create a tiny spray of water as long as the sun's out.
and lastly it can take a while for some birds to be comfortable around new things, so it may still happen! my mother's bird bath that i helped her set up took months to get popular, and it still doesn't see heavy use, probably because she has a very flat, open lawn, but there are a few regular visitors.
put a bird bath out for the birds and they dont even gaf -_-

It’s always an honor for me to work on memorial pieces for folks. I appreciate the trust and the opportunity to help them celebrate and remember a dear friend, and love to get a chance to work with the many loving photos provided during the process!
This piece was a commission, but I’ll have lots of new work available at Anthrocon July 4-6th!
