Kensuke was set on Rui, the whole “professionally defending her during their first meeting” and his direct request to take Emu with them when wxs left the park gave him the impression Rui was pursuing or courting her somehow and making an effort to be on formal terms with her family. Shousuke was convinced she was crushing on Tsukasa since she’s so clingy with him for a guy friend and Emu genuinely acts like he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. He always read it as some sappy annoying puppylove thing.
