The thought kept shooting about within my head, and I had to do it.

Meet Black Star Diopside, the fusion between Steven and Spinel. Black Star Diopside retains the stretchy, malleable qualities of Spinel, but the inclusion of Steven’s side expands it even further to the point of where Diopside’s manifested form has an almost amorphous, overly fluid inky quality to it.

Black Star Diopside can be overly dramatic, with a love of posing and cracking jokes, as well as a passion for justice, love, and truth. This leads to Diopside’s nature being easily comparable to that of a ‘Magical Girl’ of sorts. Diopside can also get bored easily.

Shellder Pokemorphs have rather soft and very squishy bodies that are malleable and goo-like. They’re always attached to their shell via at least some part of their body, and so they must carry their shells with them. On the bright side, their shells are very light weight in addition to being durable. Though they’re able to keep their tongues in their mouths, a Shellder Pokemorph just can’t help but keep it sticking out when fully relaxed.

This young Shellder Pokemorph is Bronwyn. The issue of lugging her shell around was made easier thanks to help from Maisy, who was able to fasten a pair of straps to the bottom of the shell so that Bronwyn could carry it around like a backpack. In fact, Bronwyn is even capable of carrying around a few things with her thanks to her shell ‘backpack’.

Thanks to her shell, Bronwyn also always has her bed close by, allowing her to take a nap any time she wants.

One of the most interesting ideas I worked on for Detective Pikachu was a colossal Torterra. This design was done for an earlier version of the final set piece before they were literally the size of mountains. I thought it was a really fun idea and I’m glad a version of it made it to the final movie.
