Elevator pitch
Pitch:
Hi I’m Sara, a student studying Fashion design at Ryerson University. I am currently researching to put different cultural elements into my garment design. I have a lot of different cultural experiences because I’m a Chinese born and raised in Panama and currently studying in Canada. With the experiences and knowledge I have from these cultures, I am very careful about my designs of having major signs of cultural appropriation.
Steps / Considers:
The goal of my elevator pitch is developed to introduce myself and my ideas to others, in the first sentence I’d like to share my name followed by my current occupation to make others aware of my social status and what is my area of expertise.
After that, I talked about what ideas I have and I can be special compared to others. I explain that I have many different cultural experiences because I lived in 3 different counties and this would be my unique value proposition. I hope it gives the impression that I can understand and show the cultures in my garment design.
In the last part of my pitch, I go back to my research with the advantage I have. Most importantly, I also mentioned a problem that may happen to other people but not me to show that I can do a better job in this research. Cultural appropriation could be a huge trouble because it happens when people don’t understand a culture and try to put it into the design. This will cause a negative impact to the company and also make the company have a bad reputation.

Google search operators
How would you search for an exact word or phrase?
In order to search for an exact word or phrase it needs to add a quotation mark to the word or phrase I’m searching for. Because if there is no quotation mark, Google will give a lot of misinformation. For example: “jinx”
How would you search for something on a specific site?
To search for something on a specific site, I can add site: with the sites and something I’m looking for on this site. For example: father's day gift site:amazon.ca
How would you correctly search for a definition?
By looking for a definition of something, I will need to use define: and add the word I’m searching after it. For example: define: yolo
How would you search for a specific product available within a specific price range?
In this case, I would need to add the product I’m looking for and the price range with two periods. For Example: Computer monitor $200..$500
How would you search for a specific filetype?
To search for a specific filetype I will need to use filetype: and add the specific filetype after it. For example: amazon filetype:pdf
How would you include or ignore words in your search?
When I want to include words in my search I can use the plus sign(+) with the word to tell Google I want to add a word. If I want to ignore words, I either just delete the word or use the minus sign(-) at the end of the search with the word I don’t want. For example: sofa +IKEA or sofa -IKEA
How would you find sites/pages similar to an existing one?
To find sites or pages similar to an existing one, I can add related: with the sites and pages I’m looking for. For example: related:amazon.ca
How would you confirm the exact form of a quote even if you were missing some of the words?
To confirm the exact form of a quote I can use asterisks(*) with the quote I want to confirm. For example: *Do or do not, there is no try.*
How would you search for pages containing two connected words?
To search for a page that contains two connected words can simply use parentheses and put the words inside of the parenthesis. For example: (computer monitor OR computer keyboard) amazon
How would you search for social media content containing a specific tag?
When I looking for social media content with a specific tag I will use hashtag(#) which is very common in different social media platforms. For example: #covid19

Social media best practice
These days, social media plays an important role of our lives. Social media enables people to easily get to know others with the ability to instance chat, sharing life moments, and expressing ideas. On the other hand, social media can also create negative effects on people, there are some best practice people should be aware of when using social media.
First of all, people should be responsible for what they said on the internet because it can effects a lot of things. Like the story of Amanda Todd, she was only trying to share her own story but people sneered at her. Social media now become a platform for people to talk about their personal stories. So if there's someone supporting you, it will also have someone who is against you. And when the voice of unsupported people become more and more, it will most likely to happen something bad when the blogger’s mental capacity is not strong enough.

Furthermore, people should find out which social media platform is best suited for them. The reason is because there’re a lot of different platforms each serve ring different use purpose and different user group. People should know that how each platform work differently and choose the right one. For example, Instagram and Facebook are focused on sharing life moments with vivid photographs. Twitter on the other hand can be more text oriented information platform such as news sharing and quick updates.
