I was 13 when I started watching Gilmore girls, and as a young teen I didn't pay that much attention to the mother-daughter relationships... I just fell in love with Lorelai (and Lauren Graham) whom I have found cool and funny: I wanted to be like her. High school Rory was sweet, bookish and relatable.

But now as an adult when you can see the generational trauma and messed up relationships, I find the Lorelai-Rory-mother-daughter dynamics just painful. There's nothing cool about their relationship.

Lorelai only liked Rory when she was being good, and did everything that was asked of her, acted in the way that Lorelai wanted her to. She seemed kind and emotionally available, but when Rory truly needed her, she couldn't be there for her: she reacted with anger. Lorelai couldn't really guide her daughter through life.

It makes me think how complicated the parent-child relationship is, especially mother-daughter.

It is so fascinating to see the Lorelai-and-Rory-relationship from a completely different angle and thinking to yourself "I don't want this, it's suffocating. I want a different relationship with my mom."

How can you build a life for yourself when you're emotionally glued to a parental figure? But you don't know who you are, and what it is that you want for yourself. How can you build relationships with other people when you're that close to your mother?

Your mother can't be your best friend.

I don't want my mother to be my best friend.

I never thought I'd say this, but I agree with Emily Gilmore that a mother shouldn't be her daughter's bestie.

But it makes for great TV. 😜

Let it be known that although I did read 50 Shades of Gray to see what the hype was about, it was hot garbage. I don't read those kind of fiction books because if you know me, you know I'm incredibly, incredibly picky about my smut-but if Milo played a character like Christian Gray I'd run straight into traffic to get a ticket no matter how much of a tire fire the movie was I gotta say his character on Gotham was in that ballpark. Ugh. Made me think he has it in him to play that role. Sure he kills people and stuff but like, a little serial killing is fine. As a treat. SO HOT.

Thank you my lovely I'm not the hugest fan of Jess' wardrobe, esp in season 2 (BIG FUGLY COATS) so I'll have to say the 2x5 titty hugging sweater (but not the clown pants that went with it) and this (bonus: sockies)
