Youtube vs. Adblockers
Copy and pasting from Reddit user Mike J Smith on the Reddit page for ublock origin, an adblocker extension:
Condensed Update for Newcomers:
YT is making a concerted anti-adblock push via a tattler script tied to a "3 strikes and you're out" style warning message.
Each time you click on a video that WOULD have shown you ads, the tattler script detects that you blocked it and you're given a warning popup. This can be X'ed out of quickly, it's just a warning.
After 3 warnings on a given account, it no longer allows you to close the warning popup, thus acting as a soft block on that YT account until YT's tattler script no longer detects ad-block running. As of right now, it does not lock your other Google services and it does not count as a traditional account ban.
To protect the new tattler script from our jamming efforts, YT is also updating it at least once a day and sometimes multiple times, basically trying to force us into a war of attrition in coding hours. This naturally has put a MASSIVE strain on the volunteer team and will probably result in extended outages on YT as they try to keep up. They are holding their own, but just barely.
None of the uBO team are paid for this, they are volunteers with day jobs. The success of their efforts will depend largely on what YouTube decides to do next, because fighting their legions of paid coders off indefinitely would be impossible. If YouTube wants to kill adblock forever with sheer force, it's within their power - we are all hoping they're just "shaking the tree" to see what falls out and they'll stop once their accountants are satisfied.
The soft block is only tied to the individual account, not the IP. Thus, FreeTube still works fine and you can still view videos logged out. If you export your history, subs and playlists to Freetube, the only thing you've really lost is your ability to comment. I miss it, but not enough to give $20 a month to a pack of scavenging vultures.
So What Do I Do Now???
Look at the original post in the original thread, find the bold headline midway down that says "I followed the 4 steps, but I'm still experiencing issues". Directly below that is a line that says "The latest fix for anti-adblock was made on [date] and currently corresponds to ID [xxxxxxx]".
The ID refers to the version of YouTube's tattler script that it is capable of defeating. Compare that number to the bottom line on this list: https://pastefy.app/G1Txv5su/raw. The listings look like: "https://www.youtube.com/s/desktop/ea2534f4/jsbin/desktop_polymer_css_polymer_serving_disabled.vflset/desktop_polymer_css_polymer_serving_disabled.js". The bolded portion is the ID number you want to compare it to.
If the numbers are the same, then the tattler has been temporarily neutralized by the volunteer team. Once you purge and update your caches, soft locked accounts will be open again and no warnings will be issued. Use it while you can. Don't forget to purge & update or it won't work.
If the numbers don't match, the volunteer team hasn't caught up yet and the tattler script is still active. You will still be warned and soft-blocked. Give them 4-5 hours to catch up.

Skip Google for Research
As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse.  It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search terms
As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable.  As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.
Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.
Google is so powerful that it “hides” other search systems from us. We just don’t know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.
http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.
www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.
www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.
www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free

I think one more thing to Enjoy is all of those RPG’s where the little Pixelated People live in a Beautiful CGI world and who All Have so much going on emotionally and Story-wise…
Whenever I hear the Companion aspects advertised as “Experience Friendships or Betrayals…” I think to myself, “I would be so devastated if one of my Medieval Guys betrayed me… We had Nicely rendered stew together in the Computer generated-Ye Olde Tavern… Why would you do this to me…”

So there's no way to surgically or otherwise remove the excess? Are there nerves in the scutes that prevent filing them down or anything?
Could you explain more about pyramiding in tortoise shells?
Totally!
Pyramiding refers to excessive and often uneven growth on the scutes of turtle shells. It can happen on all turtles, but it's most common in tortoises.
A healthy tortoise's shell will look like this. All the scutes will look uniform and smooth. The shell looks almost round.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A shell showing pyramiding will look very bumpy and uneven, with the scutes raising up into a tell-tell pyramid shape. Cases can range from mild to so extreme the tortoise can't even walk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pyramiding is most often caused by inappropriate husbandry during a tortoise's growth periods, resulting in uneven or excessive scute growth.
The most common causes of pyramiding are:
Overfeeding
Poor nutrition (excess protein and excess fat are common issues)
Not enough UVB and/or calcium
Too-small enclosures limiting ability to exercise
Genetic causes can contribute to pyramiding, but 99 times out of 100 it's caused by husbandry issues. Pyramiding cannot be reversed, so seeing a tortoise with it isn't automatically a red flag because they could have changed owners or husbandry could have improved, but when you see it combined with poor husbandry, you can be very confident something's up.

how to find literally any post on a blog in seconds (on desktop)
there are so many posts about ~tumblr is so broken, you can’t find any post on your own blog, it’s impossible, bluhrblub~
I am here to tell you otherwise! it is in fact INCREDIBLY easy to find a post on a blog if you’re on desktop/browser and you know what you’re doing:
url.tumblr.com/tagged/croissant will bring up EVERY post on the blog tagged with the specific and exact phrase #croissant. every single post, every single time. in chronological order starting with the most recent post. note: it will not find #croissants or that time you made the typo #croidnssants. for a tag with multiple words, it’s just /tagged/my-croissant and it will show you everything with the exact phrase #my croissant
url.tumblr.com/tagged/croissant/chrono will bring up EVERY post on the blog tagged with the exact phrase #croissant, but it will show them in reverse order with the oldest first
url.tumblr.com/search/croissant isn’t as perfect at finding everything, but it’s generally loads better than the search on mobile. it will find a good array of posts that have the word croissant in them somewhere. could be in the body of the post (op captioned it “look at my croissant”) or in the tags (#man I want a croissant). it won’t necessarily find EVERYTHING like /tagged/ does, but I find it’s still more reliable than search on mobile. you can sometimes even find posts by a specific user by searching their url. also, unlike whatever random assortment tumblr mobile pulls up, it will still show them in a more logically chronological order
url.tumblr.com/day/2020/11/05 will show you every post on the blog from november 5th, 2020, in case you’re taking a break from croissants to look for destiel election memes
url.tumblr.com/archive/ is search paradise. easily go to a particular month and see all posts as thumbnails! search by post type! search by tags but as thumbnails now
url.tumblr.com/archive/filter-by/audio will show you every audio post on your blog (you can also filter by other post types). sometimes a little imperfect if you’re looking for a video when the op embedded the video in a text post instead of posting as a video post, etc
url.tumblr.com/archive/tagged/croissant will show you EVERY post on the blog tagged with the specific and exact phrase #croissant, but it will show you them in the archive thumbnail view divided by months. very useful if you’re looking for a specific picture of a croissant that was reblogged 6 months ago and want to be able to scan for it quickly
url.tumblr.com/archive/filter-by/audio/tagged/croissant will show you every audio post tagged with the specific phrase #croissant (you can also filter by photo or text instead, because I don’t know why you have audio posts tagged croissant)
the tag system on desktop tumblr is GENUINELY amazing for searching within a specific blog!
caveat: this assumes a person HAS a desktop theme (or “custom theme”) enabled. a “custom theme” is url.tumblr.com, as opposed to tumblr.com/url. I’ve heard you have to opt-into the former now, when it used to be the default, so not everyone HAS a custom theme where you can use all those neat url tricks.
Tumblr media
if the person doesn’t have a “custom theme” enabled, you’re beholden to the search bar. still, I’ve found the search bar on tumblr.com/url is WAY more reliable than search on mobile. for starters, it tends to bring posts up in a sensible order, instead of dredging up random posts from 2013 before anything else
if you’re on mobile, I’m sorry. godspeed and good luck finding anything. (my one tip is that if you’re able to click ON a tag rather than go through the search bar, you’ll have better luck. if your mutual has recently reblogged a post tagged #croissant, you can click #croissant and it’ll bring up everything tagged #croissant just like /tagged/croissant. but if there’s no readily available tag to click on, you have to rely on the mobile search bar and its weird bizarre whims)

I made this a long time ago but for some reason never posted! It is my quick guide to protecting yourself against burnout as a person with ADHD and ASD.
Of course it is all about meeting your support needs at the end of the day, which are completely individual and may vary over time, but this could function as a guide if you have a hard time figuring out where to start! 🫶🏻 💙💙💙
