Raccoon Batucada / Belarus
Tumblr media
Raccoon Batucada is the first and the only one in Belarus school of Carnival Samba and Brazilian percussion. It was founded at Halloween night in 2016. They say, a group of high-voltage raccoons established the school, taught to play drums others and sent them to enhance the prestige of raccoons to various performances. But it's not proven. Today, this funny and rousing percussion band can brighten up any party. The raccoons steal sadness and return joy.

Zurich School of Samba / Switzerland
Tumblr media
Zurich School of Samba (ZSOS) is fully committed to the Carnival-Samba of the Rio de Janeiro! The international group, rooted in whole Europe and Brazil, has found its headquarters in Zurich and has been drumming since 2014 with a lot of energy and fun. Although being pretty young, the bateria profits from the long experience of its leaders who gained experience in Europe and Brazil and are now combining their talents to push things forward. Well known for their euphoric live performances at the famous "Caliente" festival or the "Zürich Tanzt" festival in Zurich, the band achieved some publicity in Zurich and surroundings. The group has developed their own style combining authentic rhythms from the famous Samba Schools such as "Mangueira" or "Portela" with their own flavor. ZSOS strongly welcomes the international Samba network, establishing links to other Rio-style baterias in whole Europe and worldwide.

G.R.E.S. Portela / Brazil
Tumblr media
The Grêmio Recreativo Escola de Samba Portela is one of the most traditional samba schools of the city of Rio de Janeiro, and champion of the 2017 Carnival parade.
In the beginning of the 20th century, in Oswaldo Cruz, there was the carnivalesque group of dancers called Quem Fala de Nós Come Mosca (Who tells things about us eats flies), of Dona Ester. A dissidence of this carnivalesque group of dancers (called "bloco" in Brazilian Portuguese) surged in 1922 and another bloco, the Baianinhas de Osvaldo Cruz (Baianas of Oswaldo Cruz) was created. And on the other hand, a dissidence of Baianas created the Conjunto Carnavalesco Osvaldo Cruz (Ensemble of Carnaval Oswaldo Cruz) on April 11 of 1926. The founders were from Osvaldo Cruz, but Grêmio Recreativo Escola de Samba Portela was founded, on 412 Portela Road, in the neighborhood of Madureira. After the victory of the concourse between sambistas in 1929, performed in the house of Zé Espinguela, the bloco changes its name to Quem nos Faz é o Capricho (Who makes us is caprice). In 1931, when the samba schools are still being determined, the group changes its name again, this time to Vai como Pode (Go as you can), a name that without doubt is humbler than the previous one. In 1935, the school was the champion of the first official parade of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The denomination "Vai como Pode" was used until 1935, when, after the Carnaval, on March 1 of 1935, on the occasion of the renovation of the licence of the school in the police, the officer Dulcídio Gonçalves refused to renovate the license with this name, considering it as vulgar and not dignified for a samba school. The same officer suggested a new name, Grêmio Recreativo e Escola de Samba Portela, in homage to the street in Madureira where sambistas had gathered. The change pleased the community; many had already been referring to the school as the "folks from Portela". In 1939, the samba of Paulo da Portela, "Teste ao Samba" (Test for the samba), is considered the first samba-enredo. In the same year, Portela renovated things by bringing to the parade costumes totally framed to the enredo. In 1941, after a misunderstanding with the master of ceremonies Manuel Bambã, Paulo da Portela the group stopped parading. This occurred because Paulo during a long period of time argued that all of the components would parade correctly costumed, dressed with the colors of the school, however on the day of the parade he came back from a presentation in São Paulo, along with Heitor dos Prazeres and Cartola, and all of them were dressed in black and white. With no time to change costumes, they agreed to parade without changing clothes, together, in the samba schools of each one. However, in the turn to parade for Portela, Bambã did not authorize that the other two (Heitor and Cartola), for not being from the school and not being correctly dressed, would parade. Actually Bambã already had misunderstandings with Heitor, that once belonged Portela, and that he already stayed. However, in that epoch many portelenses favoured Bambã, because they judged lack of coherency on the part of Paulo da Portela, that argued so much that they should parade with the colours of the school and then parade with black and white. After this, Paulo da Portela never paraded for his school. In total, Portela conquered 22 titles of Carnaval, being until nowadays the school of the largest amount of titles to date Some of the great Brazilian samba composers, such as Monarco, Zé Keti, Casquinha, Manacéa, Candeia, Aldir Blanc, Paulinho da Viola, João Nogueira, Noca da Portela, Colombo, among others, beyond being one of the most traditional samba schools of Brazil, worked for the school. Portela has an important participation in the cultural life of the city during the entire year, through the presentations of her Velha Guarda (Brazilian term for the oldest-ones (among a group of people)) and of her prizewinning bateria, among other things. The school's simbol is an eagle that in all the parades is seen in the abre alas (Brazilian term for car that opens the samba parade in Carnival) of the school. The Velha Guarda also released an album called Tudo Azul in 1999.Her bateria – called Tabajara do Samba (Tabajara of Samba) – is characterized mainly by the touch of the Surdo de Terceira invented by Sula in the 1940s, and the touch of the boxes with a peculiar frill. It is the most heavy bateria of the Carioca Carnaval and counts on a big number of surdos (a type of tambour) of First, Second, and Third. They were masters of GRES Portela: Master Betinho of the foundation in the 1960s, Master Cinco in the 1970s, Master Marçal in the 1980s, Mater Timbó in the 1990s, among others.More than three decades later, Portela does not know how to win the carnival alone. From 1990, the school suffered many internal problems, that reflected on the parades and on the collocations of the parades. The best moment was in 1995 when the plot "Gosto que me enrosco" (I like when I twist myself) gave the vice-championship to the school of Madureira. In 2005, the worst of all, Portela stayed in 13th place, in the polemic parade where the school was prohibited to use her Velha Guarda. In 2006, the school recovered and stays in 7th place, and in 2007 with the plot about the 2007 Pan American Games (held in Rio de Janeiro) falls one step, staying in 8th place.Formed an opposition movement that promoted carreatas and various events through the neighborhood of Madureira, and culminated in the election of May 19, 2013, where the plate "Portela Verdade", formed by Serginho Procópio, composer and member of the old-guard, the police Marcos Falcon besides Monarco as president of honor of the plate. was approved by winning beat then President Nilo Figueiredo, who announced the result that ended with 154 votes for Serginho, 151 Nile and 8 null votes. In 2014, the team was presented: the carnival producer Alexandre Louzada, carnival director Luiz Carlos Bruno, the singer Wantuir in master-room Diogo Jesus and the porta bandeira Danielle Birth the Ghislaine Cavalcanti, choreographer of the front. The plot of 2014 "Um Rio, de Mar a Mar. Do Valongo à Glória de São Sebastião" will address how the carioca has adapted over the course of the transformations in the region between the waterfront and the neighborhood of glory. the blue and white made best parade in recent years, being considered one of the favorites. However got the third place with 299 to 4 tenths of a champion. The result was celebrated by the board and twisted.Already set the plot for 2015, which will be on the 450th anniversary of the Rio de Janeiro. With the continuity of the carnival producer Alexandre Louzada and there is acquisition of Wander Pires, who stood at the end of theme song, being promoted to of singer beside Wantuir. being one of its highlights the redemptive Eagle however with many ups and downs, the school amargou the 5th placing. In 2016, the school brings the notorious Paulo Barros as his and changing the direction of harmony. After the 2016 carnival Marcos Falcon won the vote of the school and became president of the school after serving as vice-president. But months after taking office, he resigned to run in the city council elections. As a result, the 2017 general championship, the first in 33 years, was the first school victory under historian Luis Carlos Magalhãe, who assumed the presidency in the spring of 2016.

Bateria Fogosa / SPAIN
Tumblr media
Carabassamba is the result of a batucada group that was born in the spring of 2006 in Muro as a group of drums from the group of Dimonis de sa Pedrera, under the name Renovers de sa Pedrera.
At first, he only devoted himself to the world of fireworks, but the needs, the desire to learn and evolve in the world of percussion - hit, made them begin to act individually.
The actions in correfocs have been several. The habitual ones during the fairs and celebrations of Muro -Sant Antoni and Sant Joan, fair of Sant Francesc and fair of the Carabassa- where the ClaustreFòbia stands out. But also in different municipalities of the island, among others Santa Margalida, Sa Pobla, Campos, Biniali, Santa Eugènia, Paguera, Sabadell ... Even, they had the opportunity to participate in a correfoc in Prague - in the gardens From the Archduke Lluis Salvador's Castle to Brandýs Nad Labem-.
On the other hand, individually they have acted in every caste of events. In private parties, weddings, anniversaries, "farewells", solidarity events, carnivals, streets, parties, meetings ... But the activities to be highlighted are the Fiestas d'es Vermar in Binissalem (2007, 2008, 2009), Carnival of Manacor (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012), Carnaval d'Estiu de Campanet (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011), Lloseta Summer Carnival (2007,2011), Sang Blood Donors festival in Son Carrió (2009) , Saharaui Solidarity Walk in Can Picafort (2010), Casino Mallorca (2008), Son Amar (2009), Malafama Muro Festival (2009), teloners concert Manu Chao (2011), as well as fairs and popular celebrations from different municipalities around the world De Mallorca - Llubí, Porreres, Can Picafort, Santa Margalida, Campos, Lloseta, Palma, Manacor, Inca, Sa Pobla.
It should be noted that it has not been until the same year 2012 that the Carabassamba Cultural Association has been formed in order to go professional in the world of Brazilian percussion, with a mix of rhythms from different places in Brazil ( Bahia, Rio, 6x8, Samba Funk ...) for all the groups that make up the school, and enter more into the batucada that they touch in Rio de Janeiro.
The association is made up of several groups. The batucada Escoleta, consisting of children from 5 to 7 years old, Carabassamba Junior, from 9 to 15 years old, Carabassamba Bband, adults comprising 40 members and Carabassamba, the one of the highest level, of about 15 members.

Como Vento / GERMANY
Tumblr media
Como Vento is a project of the Johanniter in the regional association Ostthüringen. They play ska, town, samba reggae, marching, dub, confusion, grooove ... At present, about 60 children, adolescents and adults are playing with them. In an age range of 6 - 38 years, people, handicapped and non-disabled, make music with each other. The group is looking for a good deal, but it has turned out that common drumming only works if everyone also catches the weaknesses of the other. Because you have to mutually encourage each other before big appearances, the younger times peel off when the arms become hard to stick pavement. Lately, much volunteer work has been done. The Proberaum, the "big ones" - and this is not meant to be dependent on age - practice on Mondays with the children from the district. Wednesday and Friday are "small" samples, to try out, technique and performance training.

Batuque Digital / BRAZIL
Tumblr media
A group of rhythm artists play as drums of samba school, but without a knob or cavaquinho, making evolutions on the bases and songs that the DJ sends, in numbers previously rehearsed. A mix of samba with house classics, dance music and other hits.
The Digital Batuque is commanded by two true 'beasts': DJ Goody takes care of the repertoire, production and mix of the tracks and the 'samba man' Kleber Komká (veteran drum and harmony director of several great schools) coordinates the selection and rehearsal Of the ritmistas, besides to rule the group live.

Slatucada / MOROCCO
Tumblr media
Slatucada is the bridge that links the Latino American samba with Gnawa rhythms made back in the days by African slaves. Also, the junction of Hip Hop moves and native African dances. As a result, performance has mix energy of different feelings, which are attracted from these sounds and rhythms. Today, the Slatucada can look back on a large work of 4 years of artistic practices. Slatucada is not only a performing band; it is also part of ongoing research on traditional and contemporary practices and music instruments. The band performed in more than 300 events and festivals in Morocco and abroad since its beginning in 2013.
Slatucada is a percussion/performance collective that gathers multidisciplinary artists such as percussionists, dancers and musicians, located in Morocco precisely in Sale city. The Slatucada experience depends on the exploration of unknown rhythms that flow with dances inherited from Moroccan and African cultures, mixed with the worlds music and body expressions, in order to create endless fusions and magical choreographies that place the audience into a new journey and musical adventure full of unique tunes and surprises.
It all started in the streets of Sale city when a group of young artists decided to set their feelings on beats and rhythms. Youssef Anagam the founder of the band who’s a professional percussionist, dancer and Capoeira performer decided to create a new percussion band . First of all the project started by bringing together artists from different backgrounds: Youssef Dajoe who’s a guitarist, lead vocal and performer, Osama Ouziz a percussionist and guitarist, Fatim Zahra Belamine a professional dancer and percussionist, Fatima Slimani a dancer and percussionist, Nabil Boukili a dancer and traditional drum player, Doha Amalah which is also a dancer and percussionist, Lemrabete Hatim a cultural animator and percussionist, Touijer Mohamed a Capoeira player and percussionist. These members became the core of the band and pursued the other new members to be part of the adventure. The name “SLATUCADA” is combining two words : the name of the city «Sla» and our passion “Batucada “.
