FIVE COMMON MISTAKES TO AVOID WHEN YOU ARE LEASING A CAR
Those who lease car in anywhere under the sun, do so because they can use a newer car for a cost lesser than its purchasing price. There are some common mistakes that car leasers often do. Avoiding these could save them a considerable amount of money.
1. Paying heavy money upfront
When car dealers advertise low monthly lease payments on new cars, don’t get carried out by it. For, you will be charged a big upfront payment. Usually, this sum is an advance paying for a part of the car lease. This prepaying can become a big problem if in the initial few months the vehicle gets stolen or wrecked. If such a case, your upfront money will not mostly be refunded, though the leasing firm will be reimbursed by its insurance firm for the car’s value. Further, you will not get a car either.
2. Forgetting gap insurance
All kinds of cars, including leased cars, depreciate in their value after being driven for the set number of miles or for a specific period time. If your leased car gets damaged or stolen, the car insurance money can be recovered only for the car’s current value. The amount may not cover your total agreement under the lease terms. So, the remaining amount has to be shelled out from your own pocket. However, this will not be the case if you have gap insurance. For, it will cover the difference. Therefore, before signing the lease contract, ensure that it includes specialty gap insurance coverage. If it doesn’t, opt for a car lease that does.
3. Underestimating mileage limits
Often when you see leasing companies advertising low monthly payments, you need to know that the trap lies in the accompanying low mileage limits. When you exceed this limit, an additional price per mile driven will be charged at the termination of the lease. So, if you think that you will exceed the mileage limits mentioned in the agreement, ask for a higher limit before signing the contract.
4. Forgetting car maintenance
At the end of the lease term, you can escape additional fees on damage only it falls within normal wear and tear. So, maintain your leased car well and fix damages before giving it back to the dealer.
5. Leasing for too long
Car-lease terms are often for a period of 2 to 4 years. If you lease a car for too long (longer than its warranty period), you might spend more money on its maintenance. If you really would like to lease it for longer, go for an extended warranty, which would cost some additional amount.
People who lease car should make it a point to avoid these 5 common mistakes while doing so.
