How to moisturize vagina
Vaginal Dryness: Causes and Moisturizing Treatments
IN THIS ARTICLE Causes Diagnosis Medication Other Products Normally, the walls of the vagina stay lubricated with a thin layer of clear fluid. The hormone estrogen helps maintain that fluid and keeps the lining of your vagina healthy, thick, and elastic. A drop in estrogen levels reduces the amount of moisture available. It can happen at any age from a number of different causes. It may seem like a minor irritation. But the lack of vaginal moisture can have a huge impact on your sex life. Fortunately, several treatments are available to relieve vaginal dryness.

Causes Vaginal dryness is common symptom of menopause -- and close to one out of every three women deals with it while going through "the change." It becomes even more common afterward. It also makes the vagina thinner and less elastic. This is called vaginal atrophy. Estrogen levels can also drop because of: Childbirth and breastfeeding Radiation or chemotherapy treatment for cancer Surgical removal of the ovaries Anti-estrogen medications used to treat uterine fibroids or endometriosis Other causes of vaginal dryness include: Sjögren's syndrome (an autoimmune disorder that attacks cells in the body that produce moisture) Allergy and cold medications Certain antidepressants Douching Not enough foreplay before sex No matter what the cause, vaginal dryness can be extremely uncomfortable. It can lead to itching, burning, and painful intercourse. Diagnosis Any burning, itching, or discomfort in the area is worth a call to your doctor or gynecologist. They'll ask about your past health and find out how long you've had symptoms and what seems to make them worse or better. Your doctor will do a pelvic exam, checking your vagina for any thinning or redness. The exam will help rule out other possible causes for your discomfort, including a vaginal or urinary tract infection. The doctor may also remove cells from your vaginal wall or cervix for a Pap test. Medication The most common treatment for vaginal dryness due to low estrogen levels is topical estrogen therapy. These replace some of the hormone your body is no longer making. That helps relieve vaginal symptoms, but it doesn't put as much estrogen in your bloodstream as the hormone therapy you take in pills. Most women use one of three types of vaginal estrogen: Ring (Estring): You or your doctor inserts this soft, flexible ring into your vagina where it releases a steady stream of estrogen directly to the tissues. The ring is replaced every 3 months. Tablet (Vagifem): You use a disposable applicator to put a tablet into your vagina once a day for the first two weeks of treatment. Then you do it twice a week until you no longer need it. Cream (Estrace, Premarin): You use an applicator to get the cream into your vagina. You'll typically apply the cream daily for 1 to 2 weeks, then cut back to one to three times a week as directed by your doctor. Any estrogen product can have side effects, such as vaginal bleeding and breast pain. Topical estrogen may not be recommended when you: Have breast cancer, especially if you're taking an aromatase inhibitor Have a history of endometrial cancer Have vaginal bleeding but don't know why Are pregnant or breastfeeding There isn't much research on the long-term use of topical estrogen, but doctors believe it's safe. Other Products You can buy a vaginal moisturizer like glycerin-min oil-polycarbophil (Replens) at your local drugstore or supermarket. A drug taken orally An oral drug taken once a day, ospemifeme (Osphena), makes vaginal tissue thicker and less fragile, resulting in less pain for women during sex. The FDA warns that Osphena can thicken the endometrium (the lining of the uterus) and raise the risk of stroke and blood clots. Take your time before having sex to make sure that you're fully relaxed and aroused. Apply a water-based lubricant (Astroglide, K-Y) to help enjoy intercourse more. Avoid using douches, bubble baths, scented soaps, and lotions around the sensitive vaginal area. These products can worsen dryness.

How to trim mustache
How to Trim a Mustache
The mustache is a classic look for men, but over time they can grow out and look unruly. If you want to control your mustache and keep it looking clean, all you need are a few basic grooming products. While a basic trim works for most styles, a handlebar mustache requires a few extra steps. Work with your mustache and groom it regularly to keep it clean!
Method 1  Cleaning up Your Mustache
1
Comb through your mustache with a fine-toothed comb. Use a smaller comb meant for facial hair for the most convenience. Keep your mustache dry while you do this so you know the true length of your facial hair. Combing helps straighten your facial hair so you can trim it evenly.
Shampoo and condition your facial hair before you trim if you want to make your mustache softer and easier to manage. Just make sure you completely dry your face after.
2
Cut along your lip with a pair of trimming scissors or electric trimmers. Keep your face expressionless as you trim so you can easily see if you're trimming your mustache evenly. Hold the trimming scissors parallel to your lips and make small cuts following your lip line. The length is dependent on your preference. If you're using electric trimmers, gently press the edge of the trimmer to the top of your lip line and pull it away.
Work from the outside of your mustache towards the center. Once you reach the center from one side, start from the end of your mustache on the opposite side.
3
Trim the top of your mustache to make a clean line. Use your trimming scissors or a precision razor to cut off any unruly hair. If you're using a razor, use short strokes pulling up and away from the rest of your mustache.
You can cut the top of your mustache so it goes at a 45-degree angle towards your lips or leave it so it looks fuller. The shape of the top of your mustache all depends on your own personal preference.
Trim the area where your mustache meets your nose so it doesn't look like long nose hair.
4
Reduce the volume of your mustache with a comb and scissors. Comb up and away from your mustache so the ends of your facial hair extend past the comb's teeth. Use your scissors or electric trimmers to trim the hair. This helps control the length and bulk of your mustache.
Some electric trimmers come with guides that will work as a replacement for a comb. Start on the longer settings first and work your way to a shorter length.
Start by trimming only a little at a time. You can always trim more off, but you have to wait for it to grow back if you cut too much.
5
Check for any hairs you missed. Comb your beard again to straighten your mustache and look for any long hairs that you missed the first time. Use your scissors to trim them back to their desired length. Turn your head to the side and check if any hair sticks out more than the others.
Method 2  Shaping and Styling a Handlebar Mustache
1
Lift the ends of your mustache and shave to the corners of your lips. The ends of your mustache will be the longest since they will be twisted to form the classic handlebar look. Pinch the long hair between your fingers and pull it up to reveal any stubble underneath. Use a precision razor to shave any hair underneath.
Leave a little extra volume in your mustache while you're trimming. The hair will make your handlebar mustache look fuller and give you more hair to curl.
2
Twist the ends of your mustache and trim them for length if needed. Use your index finger and your thumb to twist the hair together so it's easier to trim. Work on one side of your mustache at a time and make sure they are even in length.
Pull each side of your mustache out to ensure they are the same length when you're finished trimming them.
Cut a little bit at a time so you don't remove too much from your handlebar.
3
Rub a fingertip-sized amount of mustache wax between your fingers. Warm the wax in between your fingers using a circular motion. Start with a little bit of wax since you can always add more later if your curls don't hold.
Mustache wax can be purchased online or in most haircare sections of local stores.
4
Work the wax into your mustache. Start in the center of your mustache and pat it towards the ends. Continue working the wax into your mustache until it is completely clear. Comb your mustache from the middle toward each side so all of your facial hair is going in the same direction.
Combing your mustache will also help evenly distribute the wax so it isn't bunched up in one place.
5
Pinch the ends of the mustache and twist them away from your face. Rub another fingertip-sized amount of wax between your index finger and your thumb and grab the ends of your mustache. Pull the hairs from the middle of your mustache to the ends, and twist the hair away from your cheek. Repeat the process for the other end of your mustache until it curls how you want it.
Use more product if you have long hair since it will be more difficult to control.
6
Use extra-hold gel to keep the curls in place. Use a small bead of clear gel and rub it into the ends of your mustache. This will secure the curls so they last throughout the day and will glue it in place.
You can also use more of the mustache wax to hold it in place, though it is more likely to droop after time.

How to replace key fob battery
How to Replace the Battery in a Key Fob
No matter what type of key fob you have, you can replace the battery in a few minutes. The technique to open the fob and the battery you need differs slightly depending on the specific key fob you own. Pry open the fob, then swap the old battery out for a new one. Your key fob should then work as intended once again.
Part 1  Opening the Fob
1
Move the key out of the way if it is in the fob. This depends on what kind of fob you have. Car key fobs for example typically hold the key when it is not in use. You have to open the key, although in some fobs the key is removable. Either slide the key out or spring it away from the fob.
A fob with a sliding key has a small button on the top. Hold the button down while pulling on the key to remove it.
For a fob with a springing key, press the spring button on the fob or pull the key forward to get it out of the way.
2
Unscrew the back of the key fob. Flip the key fob over and look for at least 1 screw holding in the plastic. These screws are tiny, so you will need a small Phillips head screwdriver. Rotate the screw counterclockwise to remove it. Work slowly to avoid stripping the screw.
Set the screw aside in a safe spot, such as inside a resealable bag or small cup, to avoid losing it.
3
Twist a coin in the side slot if the fob has one. Many, but not all, fobs have a small indentation on the side. Use a small coin or a flat head screwdriver. Push the end into the slot, then turn the object to separate the fob’s halves.
4
Pry the cover off if it doesn’t have a slot. Your fob will have a seam around the side edges. This is where the fob’s halves meet. Push the tip of a flat head screwdriver into the seam to separate the halves. Then, lift the screwdriver to pry the cover off.
Prying a stuck cover is easier if you use the screwdriver on all of the fob’s sides. Work the blade into the seam in a few different spots to separate the halves.
Part 2   Replacing the Battery
1
Pry the battery out with a screwdriver. The battery looks like a small, silver coin placed in fob’s center. Try to remove the battery by sliding it out with your fingers. If this doesn’t happen, lift it out with a flat screwdriver or the end of a paperclip. Slide the screwdriver’s head under the battery and gently lift it to remove it.
Some fobs have clips over the battery. Lift the clips with the screwdriver to free the battery. Move slowly, lifting the clips as gently as possible to avoid breaking them.
2
Slide the new battery into place. Fit the new battery into the slot where the old one was. Check the fob’s plastic for a diagram showing how to install the battery. Normally, the battery fits with the positive side face-up. You won’t need to do anything else to secure it besides fitting it into the battery slot.
Fobs generally use small, coin-shaped batteries like CR2025 or CR2032. You can usually find them at general stores, home improvement stores, and some auto part stores.
To find the specific type of battery yours uses, consult the owner’s manual of inspect the fob and battery for a label.
3
Screw the fob back together. Put the cover back on the fob. Push down on it so it snaps in place over the battery. Then, replace the screw. Turn it clockwise until it tightly binds the cover;s halves together.
4
Test the key fob. Point the key fob at your car or other device and attempt to use it. It should work right away. If it doesn’t, the battery may be upside-down. You will need to take the fob apart again to test this. If that doesn’t fix it, the fob may be broken.
A dealer or an auto locksmith can replace the fob. You may also be able to buy a new fob and program it yourself.

How to get rid of dandruff fast
How to Get Rid of Dandruff
Regardless of the season, a flaky scalp can be a pesky problem. How do you get rid of dandruff? Below, some tips and tricks for how to address your head case — so that you can finally start wearing black again.
Dr. Jessica Weiser of New York Dermatology Group explains that dandruff, which presents itself as white flakes, is a mild and common form of seborrheic dermatitis. You can get it behind the ears, eyebrows, or even in folds of the face. It can be red, flaky, itchy, or a combination of all those factors. (It’s different from psoriasis, which also can look like flakes — but those will appear like “thicker pink or red plaques” with “silver-white scales” on close examination. Go to a dermatologist if you aren’t sure.)
Much like olive-oil bread, dandruff is created by the mixture of oil and yeast. We all have some yeast on our bodies, explains Dr. Joshua Zeichner, director of cosmetic and clinical research at Mount Sinai Hospital’s Department of Dermatology, and the amount varies depending on a blend of genetics and external and internal factors. “Yeast levels rise when there is more oil on skin.”
So how do you get rid of it? You treat the oil and the yeast. Read on.
1. Change Your Diet
According to Dr. Macrene Alexiades-Armenakas, a New York–based dermatologist, poor nutrition can lead to dandruff. “High-carb foods can result in the buildup of glycogen in the skin, which yeast feeds on.” Dr. Zeichner agrees: “Although there’s little data, the same foods that promote acne may exacerbate dandruff.” Sugary foods and dairy stimulate the sebaceous glands, which produce more oil on the skin. So unfortunately, you might need to try laying off the carbs and sugars if you’re prone to dandruff.
2. Start Washing Your Hair More Often
We live in the peak age of dry shampoo, when you can extend your blowout longer than the life of your last succulent. This is partially contributing to the whiteout situation on your scalp. “There’s this concept now that you need to let natural oils sit longer on your scalp, but that can add to the problem,” Elizabeth Cunnane-Phillips, a trichologist at the Philip Kingsley Trichological Clinic, explains. Dr. Weiser adds, “Oils and dead skin cells further accumulate as a result of infrequent hair washing. Patients prone to dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis should regularly wash hair a few times a week at minimum to reduce build up.”
3. Try Exfoliating Your Scalp
Yes, this is a thing. Much like exfoliating your skin, exfoliating your scalp gently lifts the top layer of dry skin. Scalp exfoliators typically remove dead skin with either small amounts of salicylic acid (more commonly found in acne products), or granules that dissolve. Dr. Weiser explains that the latter are “very helpful at breaking down the dead skin cells that accumulate on the scalp and lead to flaking.”
4. Or Try a Hot-Oil Mask
“Oil-based treatments can help to balance some of the scalp’s excessive oil production,” says Dr. Weiser. “Applying oils to the scalp will help draw oils from it and remove them. It’s the classic law of attraction, where like substances attract each other.” You can try heating up the only oil celebrities are unafraid of, coconut oil, in a microwave and gently applying it to your head. Be careful not to make the oil too hot, as doing so increases the risk of burning your scalp.
5. Use Apple-Cider Vinegar Sparingly
Dr. Internet suggests using apple-cider vinegar as a home remedy for many things and a base for many products, among them a toner, a hot-water salve, and a treatment for dandruff. Dermatologists are a bit divided on this. Dr. Zeichner says it could potentially help: “Apple-cider vinegar has anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties to lower levels of yeast on the skin and calm inflammation.” But Dr. Weiser simply says, “I do not generally support the use of apple-cider vinegar for dandruff,” as there are more effective remedies available. Don’t go overboard with making your hair smell like salad dressing.
6. Do Use a Special Shampoo
Special dandruff shampoos containing zinc or sulfur can reduce yeast populations and offer help. Gone are the days of smelly Selsun Blue. They haven’t become chic, but their smell and packaging no longer make them repellent.
Here are some of the best dandruff shampoos. If you have simple dryness and flaking, Dr. Weiser says that shampoos with salicylic acid should be enough. If you have redness and irritation, try the ones with zinc pyrithione (the same stuff in Head and Shoulders), ketoconazole and selenium sulfide. Tea tree helps with inflammation.
7. Wash Your Scalp Only
Unfortunately, dandruff shampoos can dry out your hair, in addition to your scalp. To ensure this doesn’t happen, Dr. Weiser says that you should apply your special shampoo only to the scalp. “These shampoos and treatments should be applied directly to the scalp (not the hair) and massaged gently in place for at least five minutes with each application.” Make sure you don’t do it for less than five minutes, to give the active ingredients time to work.
8. Don’t Scratch
It’s the white bear problem, but try not to think about scratching. It’s so itchy, I know, but scratching can exacerbate inflammation and irritation. Particularly if you have long, sharp nails, scratching can cause open scalp wounds which lead to infections. Dr. Weiser suggests doing a gentle massage only, saying that it “allows ingredients to penetrate the scalp.”
9. While You’re Waiting for These Steps to Work, Hide the Evidence
Try a ponytail or updo. Nathaniel Hawkins, a celebrity hairstylist for Adele and Heather Graham, also adds, “Resist the urge to itch. When your hair is down and has freedom of movement, the flakes will fall.”
10. Try These Products
CHRISTOPHE ROBIN C
leansing Purifying Scrub With Sea Salt
It’s a scalp scrub and a shampoo, formulated by Catherine Deneuve’s colorist of 18 years, Christophe Robin. It contains sea-salt granules that exfoliate the scalp, then dissolve, meaning they won’t get stuck in the hair or dry it out. Plus, it has a pretty, sort of salty lemon smell.

How to Turn Off Your AirPods
Save the batteries on wireless Apple earphones
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
The answer, believe it or not, is no: There is no way to turn off AirPods or their charging case.
You Can't Turn Off AirPods or Their Charging Case
We know. You're not alone. Lots of people wonder whether you can turn AirPods off to save battery life or just prevent them from working when you don't want to use them.
Apple created the AirPods so that they'd always be ready. All you have to do is open the case, pull the AirPods out, put them in your ears, and they start working. No need for on/off buttons, no need to tap a bunch of onscreen buttons to connect to your device.
Because of this, Apple did not create a way to turn off your AirPods. If you could turn them off, you'd have to remember if you'd turned them on before using them or you might put them in your ears only to find out they were off.
So, Apple did not create a way — either in hardware or software — to turn off or power down the AirPods themselves or their charging case.
Tip -The button on the AirPods charging case in not an on/off button, even though it seems like it might be. Instead, that's the button that you press to set up AirPods, or to reset them. Only press it if you're trying to do one of those things.
There are, however, a few tips for stopping AirPods from playing audio and extending their battery life.
Put AirPods in Charging Case To Stop Audio and Save Battery Life
Tumblr media

So, you can't turn AirPods off in the sense of powering them down to stop them from working or to save battery life. However, Apple has built some features into the AirPods that let you deal with these situations.
HOW TO CONSERVE AIRPODS BATTERY LIFE
Most people want to turn off their AirPods to save battery life. Since you can't turn them off, the best way to conserve battery is to place your AirPods back in their charging case when you're not using them. According to Apple, when the AirPods are in the charging case they "shut down" and don't use battery. In fact, they'll recharge themselves with any power that's stored in the case's battery.
Even though Apple says AirPods "shut down" when in their case, we understand that to mean "stop working" not "turn off."
USE ONE AIRPOD AT A TIME TO CONSERVE BATTERY LIFE
If battery life is your main concern, squeeze more life out of your AirPods by using one at a time and keeping the one you're not using fully powered in the charging case. This is only really good if you're making calls (who wants to listen to music in only one ear?), but it can help in that situation.
Tip -If you want to turn off your AirPods due to concern about battery health, don't worry. Even if your AirPods are in the case, they're not necessarily charging 100% of the time. Once your AirPod batteries are fully charged, the case stops sending power to them.
HOW TO PREVENT AIRPODS FROM WORKING WHEN NOT IN YOUR EARS
The other reason you may want to turn off your AirPods is stop them from playing music when they're not in your ears. Luckily, there's nothing you need to do here. AirPods include an Automatic Ear-Detection setting that helps them know when they're in your ears. If they are, they play audio. But take them out, and the audio automatically pauses. There's no concern about them playing tunes while sitting in your pocket.
Tip -If you dig deep enough into the AirPods settings on iOS devices or Macs, you'll find an option called Off (it's in Settings > Bluetooth > AirPods > Double-Tap on AirPod). That doesn't turn the AirPods off. Rather, that setting controls what happens when you double tap one of your AirPods. If you select it, you're turning off that feature so that nothing happens when you tap the AirPods. You're not turning off the AirPods themselves.

How to use sea foam motor treatment
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
HOW TO USE SEA FOAM: THREE WAYS TO A CLEANER FUEL SYSTEM
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Over time, the internals of your engine get clogged up with all kinds of nasty stuff. Inside the crankcase, where the oil lives, varnish and tar build up on the surfaces of the pistons, rings, lifters and in the oil galleys that supply the oil to all the components. This lowers the engine’s ability to cool and lubricate itself, reducing the efficiency, performance, and life of the engine.
The same build up occurs inside the fuel system as well, clogging the injectors or carburetor jets, gumming up the intake valves and on the tops of the pistons too. If the valves don’t move freely, then your engine’s breathing is greatly hampered. Carbon deposits on the pistons and valves can lead to hot spots which cause detonation, which lowers your engine’s performance. The trick is how do you clean? Virtually every engine, from 2-stroke lawnmowers to big rig diesels face the same problem.
Cleaner Is Better
Sea Foam has been around for over 70 years, and it is one of the most trusted treatments for all engines. While Sea Foam makes a range of excellent products, the main one is Sea Foam Motor Treatment. Sea Foam is specially formulated to safely and slowly re-liquify the gum, sludge, varnish and carbon deposits from the hard parts in your engine so they can be flushed out of the system.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Sea Foam helps lubricate the moving parts, particularly in the fuel system. Ethanol additives dry out the seals and leaves a varnish that makes it harder for oil to lubricate the parts. Removing this varnish brings the engine back into top working order. Inside the fuel tank, Sea Foam absorbs water, allowing it to be burned up in the combustion chamber without issue.
How To Use Sea Foam
When deciding how to use Sea Foam Motor Treatment there are three options: in the crankcase, in the fuel tank, and in the diesel fuel filter. For cleaning the top end, use Sea Foam Spray as directed.
IN THE CRANKCASE
When added to the oil, Sea Foam will clean up sludge, quiet noisy lifters, and remove oil varnish. One can treats 16 quarts of oil so you get 2 treatments in one can for most vehicles. The best method is to add the treatment 500-1,000 miles before the next oil change, and then add the rest after you have changed the oil. This will get the big amounts of varnish and sludge out, and the second treatment keeps things clean.
Pop the cap on the oil filler neck. You can add Sea Foam before or after an oil change.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Pour up to 1 ounce of Sea Foam per quart of oil into the engine. We used about ½ of the bottle.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
IN THE FUEL TANK
One can treats up to 16 gallons of fuel. This will remove deposits from the fuel pump, injectors or carb jets, control moisture, and stabilize the fuel. In diesel engines, it will de-ice and has anti-gel properties.
One bottle treats up to 16 gallons of fuel. We poured in 1/2 of the bottle to make this a one-bottle job.
ON THE TOP-END
To clean carbon deposits from air intake systems, intake valves and combustion chambers inside the engine, including GDI engines, Sea Foam recommends using Sea Foam Spray Top Engine cleaner and lube (Part # SS-14). Sea Foam Spray is the same great Sea Foam only in aerosol spray instead of liquid form. Sea Foam Spray is used by inserting the included application hose and patented “HOOK TOOL” into the air intake just in front of the throttle plates in the throttle body.  Then start engine and let it warm up to operating temperature. Increase idle speed to 2,000 RPM and spray the contents of the container into the engine. Shut the engine off and allow it to “Hot Soak” for 15 minutes. After the Hot Soak period restart the engine and road test the vehicle aggressively until the exhaust is clean (road test normally takes 5 to 10 miles of driving). Easy to follow directions are also available right on the Sea Foam Spray container.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Treatments like this may seem complicated, but with a little bit of prep work, you can do it yourself and restore your vehicle’s power and performance.

How to clean menorah from wax
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Clean and De-Wax Your Menorah With These Tips
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
If you've used a menorah for even a few years, it's probably gunked up with wax (unless you have an oil-based one). The problem gets worse over time, so let this year be the year your menorah stays clean and fresh.
Before Lighting: Prevent Wax Drippings
If you want to spend the cash, beeswax and other dripless candles are obvious choices for a cleaner menorah. However, if you use traditional candles, you can also:
Freeze the candles to make them last longer (but not 8 nights) and prevent dripping.
Use a Lifesaver (or kosher equivalent) candy to capture some of the wax at the bottom.
Use cooking spray to keep the wax from sticking to the menorah.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
After the Holiday: Clean It Up
We've covered how to remove candle wax from your stuff before, and some of these tips apply to a menorah:
Freeze the menorah if it's made of metal or plastic. Fragile menorahs made of glass or plastic might crack with the temperature change. Spot clean afterward with an ice cube.
If the menorah is made of metal, put it on a cookie sheet and put it in the lowest setting in the oven. A hair dryer will melt the wax on plastic menorahs, but watch for any damage from the heat.
Soak the menorah in a hot water bath in the sink. The gentle heat helps break up the wax. Then you can wipe it with a paper towel or gently scrape with a credit card.
Use Commercial wax-removing sprays like Wax-Off.
Some families have traditions of letting the wax pile on for generations. When you can't figure out where the drippings end and where the menorah starts, though, it might be time to clean it. Happy Hanukkah!

How to do intermittent fasting
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
6 Popular Ways to Do Intermittent Fasting
Intermittent fasting has been very trendy in recent years.
It is claimed to cause weight loss, improve metabolic health and perhaps even extend lifespan.
Not surprisingly given the popularity, several different types/methods of intermittent fasting have been devised.
All of them can be effective, but which one fits best will depend on the individual.
Here are 6 popular ways to do intermittent fasting.
1. The 16/8 Method: Fast for 16 hours each day.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
The 16/8 Method involves fasting every day for 14-16 hours, and restricting your daily "eating window" to 8-10 hours.
Within the eating window, you can fit in 2, 3 or more meals.
This method is also known as the Leangains protocol, and was popularized by fitness expert Martin Berkhan.
Doing this method of fasting can actually be as simple as not eating anything after dinner, and skipping breakfast.
For example, if you finish your last meal at 8 pm and then don't eat until 12 noon the next day, then you are technically fasting for 16 hours between meals.
It is generally recommended that women only fast 14-15 hours, because they seem to do better with slightly shorter fasts.
For people who get hungry in the morning and like to eat breakfast, then this can be hard to get used to at first. However, many breakfast skippers actually instinctively eat this way.
You can drink water, coffee and other non-caloric beverages during the fast, and this can help reduce hunger levels.
It is very important to eat mostly healthy foods during your eating window. This won't work if you eat lots of junk food or excessive amounts of calories.
I personally find this to be the most "natural" way to do intermittent fasting. I eat this way myself and find it to be 100% effortless.
I eat a low-carb diet, so my appetite is blunted somewhat. I simply do not feel hungry until around 1 pm in the afternoon. Then I eat my last meal around 6-9 pm, so I end up fasting for 16-19 hours.
BOTTOM LINE:The 16/8 method involves daily fasts of 16 hours for men, and 14-15 hours for women. On each day, you restrict your eating to an 8-10 hour “eating window” where you can fit in 2-3 or more meals.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
2. The 5:2 Diet: Fast for 2 days per week.
The 5:2 diet involves eating normally 5 days of the week, while restricting calories to 500-600 on two days of the week.
This diet is also called the Fast diet, and was popularized by British journalist and doctor Michael Mosley.
On the fasting days, it is recommended that women eat 500 calories, and men 600 calories.
For example, you might eat normally on all days except Mondays and Thursdays, where you eat two small meals (250 calories per meal for women, and 300 for men).
As critics correctly point out, there are no studies testing the 5:2 diet itself, but there are plenty of studies on the benefits of intermittent fasting.
BOTTOM LINE:The 5:2 diet, or the Fast diet, involves eating 500-600 calories for two days of the week, but eating normally the other 5 days.
3. Eat-Stop-Eat: Do a 24-hour fast, once or twice a week.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Eat-Stop-Eat involves a 24-hour fast, either once or twice per week.
This method was popularized by fitness expert Brad Pilon, and has been quite popular for a few years.
By fasting from dinner one day, to dinner the next, this amounts to a 24-hour fast.
For example, if you finish dinner on Monday at 7 pm, and don't eat until dinner the next day at 7 pm, then you've just done a full 24-hour fast.
You can also fast from breakfast to breakfast, or lunch to lunch. The end result is the same.
Water, coffee and other non-caloric beverages are allowed during the fast, but no solid food.
If you are doing this to lose weight, then it is very important that you eat normally during the eating periods. As in, eat the same amount of food as if you hadn't been fasting at all.
The problem with this method is that a full 24-hour fast can be fairly difficult for many people.
However, you don't need to go all-in right away, starting with 14-16 hours and then moving upwards from there is fine.
I've personally done this a few times. I found the first part of the fast very easy, but in the last few hours I did become ravenously hungry.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
I needed to apply some serious self-discipline to finish the full 24-hours and often found myself giving up and eating dinner a bit earlier.
BOTTOM LINE:Eat-Stop-Eat is an intermittent fasting program with one or two 24-hour fasts per week.

4. Alternate-Day Fasting: Fast every other day.
Alternate-Day fasting means fasting every other day.
There are several different versions of this. Some of them allow about 500 calories during the fasting days.
Many of the lab studies showing health benefits of intermittent fasting used some version of this.
A full fast every other day seems rather extreme, so I do not recommend this for beginners.
With this method, you will be going to bed very hungry several times per week, which is not very pleasant and probably unsustainable in the long-term.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
BOTTOM LINE:Alternate-day fasting means fasting every other day, either by not eating anything or only eating a few hundred calories.
5. The Warrior Diet: Fast during the day, eat a huge meal at night.
The Warrior Diet was popularized by fitness expert Ori Hofmekler.
It involves eating small amounts of raw fruits and vegetables during the day, then eating one huge meal at night.
Basically, you "fast" all day and "feast" at night within a 4 hour eating window.
The Warrior Diet was one of the first popular "diets" to include a form of intermittent fasting.
This diet also emphasizes food choices that are quite similar to a paleo diet - whole, unprocessed foods that resemble what they looked like in nature.
BOTTOM LINE:The Warrior Diet is about eating only small amounts of vegetables and fruits during the day, then eating one huge meal at night.
6. Spontaneous Meal Skipping: Skip meals when convenient.
You don't actually need to follow a structured intermittent fasting plan to reap some of the benefits.
Another option is to simply skip meals from time to time, when you don't feel hungry or are too busy to cook and eat.
It is a myth that people need to eat every few hours or they will hit "starvation mode" or lose muscle.
The human body is well equipped to handle long periods of famine, let alone missing one or two meals from time to time.
So if you're really not hungry one day, skip breakfast and just eat a healthy lunch and dinner. Or if you're travelling somewhere and can't find anything you want to eat, do a short fast.
Skipping 1 or 2 meals when you feel so inclined is basically a spontaneous intermittent fast.
Just make sure to eat healthy foods at the other meals.
BOTTOM LINE:Another more "natural" way to do intermittent fasting is to simply skip 1 or 2 meals when you don't feel hungry or don't have time to eat.
Take Home Message
There are a lot of people getting great results with some of these methods.
That being said, if you're already happy with your health and don't see much room for improvement, then feel free to safely ignore all of this.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Intermittent fasting is not for everyone. It is not something that anyone needs to do, it is just another tool in the toolbox that can be useful for some people.
Some also believe that it may not be as beneficial for women as men, and it may also be a poor choice for people who are prone to eating disorders.
If you decide to try this out, then keep in mind that you need to eat healthy as well.
It is not possible to binge on junk foods during the eating periods and expect to lose weight and improve health.
Calories still count, and food quality is still absolutely crucial.

How to clean menorah from wax
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Clean and De-Wax Your Menorah With These Tips
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

6 Popular Ways to Do Intermittent Fasting
Intermittent fasting has been very trendy in recent years.
It is claimed to cause weight loss, improve metabolic health and perhaps even extend lifespan.
Not surprisingly given the popularity, several different types/methods of intermittent fasting have been devised.
All of them can be effective, but which one fits best will depend on the individual.
Here are 6 popular ways to do intermittent fasting.
1. The 16/8 Method: Fast for 16 hours each day.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
