Pallet rack architecture could even be used in car park passage setback areas, in I ban houses or empty plots to create transitional, modular, flexible, low cost, low-tech inhabitable spaces for housing, community spaces, co-working et al.

complete modularity of structures made of pallet rack means that they can be inserted in the most densely built urbanscape such as improvised settlements in Lima or Mumbai (below). They are good architectural solutions for emergency shelters and temporary structures. The shell formed with pallet racks can also easily be converted into permanent structures if consolidated with steel, wood, concrete, or other locally available material. complete modularity of structures made of pallet rack means that they can be inserted in the most densely built urbanscape such as improvised settlements in Lima or Mumbai (below). Pallet racks are never thought of as possible elements for building large structure. Yet they are one of the cheapest and most commonly available material in the market. They are solid enough and easily replaceable. They also offer an infinity of possibilities. URBZ has explored various ways in which they could be assembled to produce different spaces. Here are different examples of simple structural elements that can be made with commercially available pallet racks. complete modularity of structures made of pallet rack means that they can be inserted in the most densely built urbanscape such as improvised settlements in Lima or Mumbai (below). Social Transformation
I see community building and sustainable and natural building to be powerful tools of social transformation not only bringing people together and building communities, but also addressing social issues of shelter and sanitation, while regenerating the environment, resurfacing culture and reviving traditions

The Sourabh Phadke - Mud Builder from Pune
The Extremely talented Sourabh Phadke is an institution of his own. An architect by profession choose to take the alternate route by initially building an eco friendly school in Pune with low tech natural Building techniques. he then went on to come up with simple graphic illustrations micro manuals on different Natural Building techniques which have been translated into international and national languages and won accolades. He is a Maverick builder and does mainly community building social projects including eco san toilets, rural schools and homes, community buildings etal. His short videos on Youtube are a great educational resource which include traditional water proofing and anti termite solutions. I would love to work with him some day. He has spoken at TED X and is a hope for the future generation of Natural builders and community builders providing solutions to the underserved populations and reviving indigenous techniques.

Jaaga "Pallet Rack Building Kits" by Freeman Murray
I've been thoroughly impressed with  Freeman's solution to sustainable high density, rapid, less space, modular, dirt cheap functional spaces using Pallet Racks. I see a great potential for community centers, low cost housing, street shops, temporary and rental structures, warehouses, education, and disaster relief and even rural infrastrucutre using this solution. earth building can be a good complement to the steel frame structure of the pallet Racks. Cob, Wattle and Daub, Wattle and Cob, Adobe, Slip straw techniques can be used for walling on the ground floor to hold the 4 floor structure firmly and light panels, babmboo abd Tarp sheets could be used for above floors. a shipping container toilet block could be explored for the ground floor for sanitation or an earthen or conventional toilet system can be installed.Pallet racks have pre defined load specifications, and can be readily used modularly without much architecture and engineering. I personally dream of building a Jaaga Hostel and promote this as a sustainable building solution.
Freeman has spoken at TED Doha and his Pallet rack solution has been a semi Finalists in the Buckminister fuller challenge 2010.
