The Magic of Indian Handicrafts [ Rajasthan ]

Indian handicrafts have a history which goes beyond our imagination these handicrafts were kept protected until the britishers came along and commercialised our Indian handicrafts .

The sufferage of Indian Handicrafts

The Britishers exploited our Indian handicrafts with their policies of quota and taxes which afftected the over all production of Indian handicrafts they were highly popular at the start but due to the polocies the value was set high and no one was interested to pay high amounts so the demand decreased and our Artisians suffered .

The Bounce Back

After a struggle of nearly 200 and more slowly Indian handicrafts were commercialised the right way by the Indian government which flourished all around the world .

Indian Art an INSPIRATION

With the intricate designs in an artwork or in a piece of clothing the Rajasthani art work is renowned world wide some of these handicrafts have also inspired clothing designs and some of are prints and hand work

BLUE POTTERY

Blue Pottery is widely recognized as a traditional craft of Jaipur of Central Asian origin. The name 'blue pottery' comes from the eye-catching cobalt blue dye used to colour the pottery

The leatherware industry of Rajasthan is quite famous worldwide. Rajasthani cobblers are known for tendering premium quality leather footwear known as Mojaris and Juttis

The decoration of the footwear is enhanced by beads, sequin and colourful threads

The other famous crafts of Rajasthan made of leather are

handbags, purses, hats, belts, caps, sandals, shoes, lamps, musical instruments such as dhapli, dhol, tabla, and even furniture such as chairs and stools.

Jodhpur, Jaipur, Jaisalmer and Barmer are a few famous places that produce traditional leather footwear.

CARPETS AND RUGS

Rajasthani carpets and rugs are known for their colour, quality and designs. They account for some of the finest handmade handicrafts of Rajasthan and are made of cotton fibre and silk.

The floral patterns, bold and striking colours and unique themes make these handicrafts truly eye-catching and breathtaking.

Carpets and rugs are mainly manufactured in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ganganagar and Udaipur. These hand-knotted handicrafts are best used for home decor.

Fashion Inspiration

Rajasthani rugs have become a fashion inspiration as the designs are very influential with big prints that are used in traditional jackets , over coats , these prints or motifs have inspired tshirt b, pants and co-ord prints too.

RAJASTHANI TEXTILES [mirror and thread work ]

The textiles of Rajasthan have immense and ever-growing demand in the international market. The spectrum of kaleidoscopic hues used in designing these textiles boggles the mind.

These hand-made textiles use different design styles, a plethora of vibrant colours and block printing, to give a unique look. Bandhani textiles are famous in Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Pali and Nathdwara for their fabulous print and textures. Scarves, shawls, odhnis and turbans are a few other famous handicrafts of Rajasthan

the mirror work and the thread work are one of the most intecrete designs that are world wide accepted appreciated by big designers and brands

CONCLUSION

Apart from the above mentioned, Rajasthan also produces a number of other famous handicrafts like

woodcrafts

paintings

stone carvings

ivory jewellery,

glass crafts and metalware. These handicrafts are the sole reason why some visit Rajasthan

Rajasthan is known for their handicraft , though due to lack of optimum exposure these gems are getting lost in its vast sand dunes but the people who appreciate and cherrish these artworks honour the skill the working hour given to it and they appraise the experience of the artisians .

A Journey from Grandma's hands to THE Store

Do you remember how your grandma , your mom used to knit cute lil wollen scarfs , sweaters , socks , and even cardigans with so so much love . As seen the pandemic being one of the most historic moment this generation has experienced sure there was a lot of loss of lives of our loved ones but the ones who were so much greatfull that they got to experience an isolated life in there homes with their loved ones and getting a chance to pause their busy lifes and reconnect with their hobbies or even picking a new one was one of the most beautiful experience .The world has now been into aesthetics and incoperating their activities , monetizing them is so much popular now

The culture of doing things by hands and not rellying on machines is back after the pandemic . Taking inspiration from the arts and crafts movement of the late 19th century and 1960s subcultures, we look at the fashion trends that are responding to work-from-home culture, environmentalism, and antiracism initiatives.

Whether it is a handmade sweater, a handcrafted piece of jewelry, or a fresh sourdough loaf made from scratch when something is made by hand, we immediately think of better, lasting quality and feeling connected to the creator. The handcrafted movement encourages us to dress in fashion and styles that make us feel more connected to the natural world and to each other

RISE OF AESTHETICS

Trends of the 2020s include hand paintings on jackets ,, tops etc  and patchwork on the blankets ; kitsch knitwear , stitching , crochet tops , bags,, skirt etc with hints of our grandmother's love; "cottagecore" and "grannychic" aesthetics became really popular amongst the youth

THE CONSUMER IS THE KING

When brands noticed the demand of the youth going towards hand made clothing the brands grabbed this opportunity and launched their own .

THE RE - BORN OF STYLES

As we all know fashion eras always repeats itself whatever comes in trend has already been in fashion in 60's 70's 80's and 90's all these eras had such diverse styles that people come back to it with their own touch and some what redesigning them in their own unique way

like knitting , crocheting etc all existed but designing a co-ord set , making a complete dress out of it is all new .

INSPIRATION

Any style becomes a trend when it is accepted by the masses all around the world due to so much media exposure , people being active on social media more than ever the launch of new shows all around the world , shows based on events happend in the past , shows inspired by history or shows based on any early era inspires people to dress up like that shows like Bridgiton , F.R.I.E.N.D.S , Big bang theory , How i met your mother etc inspires old trends to come back with a Twist . some movies of the 90,s like devil wears prada etc also inspires clothing .

CONCLUSION

The creation of the housewife archetype in the decade prior encouraged a feminization of crafts and making things by hand. Sewing, knitting, baking, and cooking were labeled as "feminine arts" in contrast to industrialization and "masculinity". During the pandemic and consequent lockdown, many of us have indulged — regardless of gender — in the handcrafted arts and are realizing how crucial it is to embrace them in order to live a happier, healthier, and more sustainable life.

Sustainability the EXPOSED TRUTH

Eco fashion ,Slow fashion ,Ethical fashion, we call it a lot of names but it all stands towards one thing SUSTAINABILITY towards fashion .As we all know how fashion is evolved from wearing a simple , a single piece of clothing to designer accessories luxury clothing and overall a lavish lifestyle defined by how fashionable you are but us humans wants to be so upto the point in our fashion game owing anything and everything , it has established an unhealthy relationship with our Environment , being so neglectfull about our mother earth has sarted a rumblling towards fashion industry . Within a blink of an eye we the fashion industry had become the 2nd most pollution causing industry it became responsible for generating over 1.2 billion tonnes of green house gas .

This has to STOP

a lot of brands alot with the help of the new government treaties have taken matters into their own hands from using less water in producing clothing to upcycling clothes . we the fashion indusrty have come a long way but all these big changes still feels small because the damage done in the first place is BIG , to fill the bullet holes carved by this everyday eveolving industry should be HUGE . A wide range of factors has to be taken into consideration for ba walk towards Sustainablity

The motive of fashion industry is to find a coexistince between man made creations with gods creation that is flourishing ecosystems and community with certain protective activities .

reducing the amount of waste clothing or re using old clothing

some challanges which i believe are still standing strong as brick wall in front of this industry are:-

Ever body wants to be in profit , create wealth , and good name amongst society , sustainability can't be achieve until and unless the perception and attitude of fashion design practioniers is changed

The consumer demand which changes every year , month , every season and even everyday

being a brand with it's jonour being denim in fabrics it was important to figure out how to use less water while washing it luckily levies has taken a big step regarding this

accepting used clothing , recycling the fabrics and also giving DISCOUNTS if a customer donates his/her old clothing .This proposal was a huge success

PROS and CONS of sustainability

Pros

Consumers have some direct control over their fashion related sustainability footprint.

The market for rented clothing is expected to grow in the future The market for second hand clothing is expected to grow in the future.

Some estimates indicate that a significant % of pre-owned textiles can be recycled or re-used.

Subjectively, is appears public awareness about sustainable fashion is growing, and/or is becoming more consistent.

More clothing utilisation options are becoming available Public figures and influencers might have some power to start trends and change across some areas of more sustainable or ethical fashion.

Solutions to more sustainable fashion may exist in trying match sustainable fashion solutions with humans' psychological side and ultimately primeval behaviors.

CONS

The burden to increase sustainability in the fashion industry might be unequally left to the smaller companies .

Recycling textiles and 'circular fashion' has major challenges and isn't effective in a number of countries Fashion may have a problem getting 'good data, and misinformation may be an issue when it comes to sustainability statistics, trends, and data.

There can be issues with awareness, transparency and tracking/tracing in the supply and sourcing chain
