Sanders Sides Theory

howdy tumber… it’s been a minute

i want to apologize in advance this came to me all at once in the middle of 4th period so i rambled all of this in my notes app so…. here 😭

and i would also like to mention that this is my idea entirely and i would like credit if you use it ty <3

also warning for mentions of religion, christianity/catholicism, and depression!

so all the sides have their color that represents them correct? and this color is always the accent color to a grayscale color right?

romans sash is red, the rest is white; remus’ sash is green, the rest in black; janus has yellow accents to an otherwise al black outfit; logan has a blue tie, and the rest is black; and patton… we’ll get to that in a minute

now why would logan’s color be black if he’s a light side? not going into the orange side theories because this has been a thing since before he was introduced.

my theory is that it’s because, out of the three “light sides” logan was the least fun for thomas. he’s logic and logic and be boring and hard to understand a lot of the time. i feel like it has less to do with logan being a light or dark side and more to do with the way thomas has viewed him. (that’s kinda the whole idea of this theory so hold on to that)

now patton! his color is light blue right? his shirt is light blue and his cardigan is grey….

ok ok ok hear me out here… why is patrons the only one that’s reversed? with grey as an accent color to his main color? and why grey when everyone else either has white or black?

hear me out here: patton is morality right? so, how do you determine weather or not the tool you use to determine good and bad is good or bad? it’s…. not possible.

so theoretically using this explanation, patton can’t be a light side or a dark side, right?

which leads me to the main idea of this theory: perhaps weather or not the sides are light sides or dark sides have nothing to do with the sides themselves, but everything to do with how thomas views what they represent

there’s backing to this!! let’s start with logan!

logan is a light side bc while yeah logan is logic and that’s something that’s important to listen to (ironic isn’t it) he also represents thomas curiosity, and want to learn! those are things that most people, thomas included, view as good things. therefor logan is a light side!

and roman? he’s thomas creativity! and his hope and dreams and goals and ambitions! all things that are typically considered good things! roman is a light side!

on the flip side there remus. who is loud and vulgar and creative yes, but the less acceptable kind. the kind of creativity that kids are told isn’t ok! especially kids in religious family’s which we knew thomas grew up in. thomas, theoretically, was taught that everything remus represents is bad! therefore remus is a dark side!

and on the note of religion, janus. he literally represents “deceit”. and yes he represents other things such as self preservation and self care, the main thing thomas knows him as is deceit! and what the golden rule that all kids are taught? “lying is bad” right? it’s one of the ten commandments even! "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour" i mean come on! janus is (currently) a dark side! this is also why there is such an argument to be made for janus getting a redemption arch! it would be similar to what happened with virgil.

speaking of virgil… he started as a dark side and then got a redemption arch right? so… why the change of heat? mental illness is widely considered “fake” or “all in your head”, especially in men. men with mental illness often get told yo “man up” or that having a mental illness is “unmanly”. a the religion part fits in here too! in most older families that are christian/catholic, men are considered the “head of the homes” and the leaders. and anxiety? that doesn’t fit into being the strong, protecting, leader that fits into the religious stereotype. therefore, for years thomas was taught that having anxiety was bad and that he needed to hide it or fight it. so for years virgil was a dark side! until thomas realized that he’s not the only one who struggles with anxiety and that there’s nothing wrong with having it! nice thomas stopped trying to hide/fight his anxiety and started working with it instead of against it… virgil got a redemption arch!he became a light side!

and last but certainly not least (trust me this one is the kicker) patton. patton is thomas morality we know that and we now know that that doesn’t play into where patton is as a light or dark side. but you know what else patton represents? thomas inner child, his feelings/emotions, and his memoirs! and all of those things are considered good things! generally… let’s talk about the feelings/emotions part. on the same not that men with mental illness are told to “man up”, men who get emotional are typically told the same thing. this would cause, say it with me: repression. if his emotions, feelings, and similar to virgil (the “two sides of the same coin” anyone?) this WOULD make patton a dark side yeah? but we’ve established that technically bc you can morally align morality, that he technically can’t be either but i digress.

and on the same idea, being sad or angry…. aren’t typically considered good. and, say it was me bc we’re all thinking it: depression. it reasons to me that if c!thomas were to hit low point or develop depression the side that would be the most effected? his emotions. patton. and in the series so far… things are looking great for thomas as of lately…

it seems to me that patton is a light side, only because thomas wants him to be. other then being his inner child… patton hits all the marks to be a dark side but he isn’t. odd isn’t it? maybe that’s the reason for pattons colors being flipped from everyone else’s and his color being the main color, and with his accent color being grey instead of the white it should be if he were a light side.

untimely my theory boils down to this: the light side/dark side separation has nothing to do with the sides themselves. the reason why each of the sides are either light sides or dark sides is because that’s how thomas views what they represent.

Hello Guys Gals and Non-Binary Pals, welcome to part one of an incredibly intriguing theory which none of you might agree with but I'll be making part 2 regardless. This theory is inspired by the super carlin brothers Hans is a mirror theory.

This Part Will Be About Thomas and how he mirrors his sides.

Whilst Part 2 Will Be About Roman and his unhealthy projection method.

Also, this is pure speculation and how I interpret certain cannon moments so, please drop down your thoughts respectfully.

The Mirror Theory Part 1

Something I've noticed about Sander Sides is that Thomas seems to mirror Patton's behaviour a lot. He also at certain times has acted like the other sides. Hmm, what if Thomas mirrors the behaviour of the side who has the most influence on him. So his behaviour depends on who he listens too. Logan and Roman Stans prepare to cry. Let's dig deeper.

Patton

Being Thomas's Morality and Emotions, of course, Patton has the most influence on Thomas. He is the leader of the group. Now I believe the only thing that didn't influence Thomas's behaviour was Patton's friendship with Virgil until after Accepting Anxiety.

So I have a few moments of Thomas mirroring Patton's behaviour.

In earlier videos, Thomas is full of enthusiasm and energy. However, over time, his enthusiasm dies down to the point he looks really unhappy during svs. This definitely represents how Patton with all the drama has beginning to feel guilty and sad.

An obvious one is that Thomas always seems to only tell off Roman for his rude antics. He doesn't call out the other sides (Another theory about that soon)

He always interrupts Logan and ignores his contributions a lot. Patton use to listen to Logan but slowly over time he began to interrupt Logan as well as the other sides. Implying Thomas doesn't think rationally a lot.

In svs, he mirrors Patton's disappointment that the wedding didn't go well. Thomas mirrors Patton's journey in learning that Selfishness is ok. Also he like Patton trusts Janus without a thought. Thomas also when Roman lashes out you can tell like Patton he looks frustrated and disappointed in Roman. Patton gets fed up and interrupts Roman venting and lashing out. Thomas also doesn't defend Roman when Janus saids the comment that shall not be named.

In most videos, Thomas always takes Patton's side. This shows that Patton is the leader of the sides and is listened to by Thomas the most.

Virgil

We don't know how Thomas reacted to that reveal or if he disowned Virgil but in previous videos, we can see that Virgil is getting listened to by Thomas.

Both are eager for Roman and Logan to stop fighting, in fact, they are annoyed by it. Thomas constantly helps Virgil fit in and as a result, himself becomes snarky. Despite the twist, we can see through his behaviour that he's accepting Virgil.

Also, he may not have been in putting others first but "Princey, I say this politely but that was the most stupidest thing you've ever said." seems like something Virgil would definitely say.

Remus

Easy Thomas has never once mirrored Remus's behaviour so are poor rat-man isn't listened to.

Janus

Ok this one is very subtle but you can see that Thomas has accepted by the end of pof. During the scene where Thomas interacts with Marry and Lee, you can tell through how he's acting that Patton and Janus are working together. It's a sign that Janus will have an equal say as Patton.

So in my opinion, I think Patton and Janus will become the leaders of the light sides.

Logan

Unfortunately, Thomas has never ever mirrored Logan at all. Think about it the only time he acted like Logan was when Logan sunk out angrily after Moving On Part 1. In moving on part 2 Thomas realises he should have taken Logan's advice so because of that this is the only time Logan is able to influence Thomas.

Thomas normally makes choices by looking his how his heart feels. So yeah Thomas makes very irrational decisions and experiences cognitive distortions.

Roman

Okay so like Logan we can tell based on this theory that he is not listened to at all. Thomas is not that prideful at all, sure Thomas is passionate but he isn't as dramatic or bold as Roman. Thomas is a pretty chill dude and has no flamboyance to him what so ever. However Roman is listened to a tad more than Roman because it's thanks to Roman that Thomas has a successful career. The only time we've seen Thomas mirror Roman is during the I'm in a Disney Show episode. Both were extremely excited that they managed to get this. I don't count svs because the excitement faded when Patton said it's on the same day as the wedding. Also, Thomas definitely doesn't do rude nicknames. He's both given Virgil and Janus a chance whilst it did and will take a while for Roman too. The only time Character Thomas has been rude is interrupting and silencing. Yeah, poor Character Thomas has no self-esteem like Roman. So in conclusion compared to Logan, Roman only has a little bit of an influence on Thomas.

So if you find any more evidence to add to this theory than please let me know. Part two will certainly be interesting. This is all just my opinion, please respect if you post your thoughts be constructive. I would love to know your guy's thoughts on this I mean we already knew Patton had full control so yeah.

This theory has spoilers if you haven’t watched the newest episode, so only proceed If you have seen it, or don’t mind spoilers!

This is kind of a part 2 of my theory of the new dark side!! Made with @chonkypastorboi and this will be a slightly long post!

Okay! So the theory of there being another dark side has been going around for a while, but after the newest episode of Sander Sides I found some evidence!

First! What made me and @chonkypastorboi make this theory, was the thumbnail of the newest episode.... 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

As you can see, there’s an empty slot in the character selection 👆🏻👆🏻👆🏻

the top three are obviously the light sides, so it makes sense that the bottom four are the dark sides, and one of them is empty

In the episode, “ACCEPTING ANXIETY, Part 2/2: can anxiety be good” Roman mentions the dark sides for the first time, when he says....

11:15- “yeah, and you are nothing compared to the others”

Bringing up that there are numerous dark sides, which could mean there are more than who we’ve already met and love

In the episode “Selfishness v. Selflessness” after Deceit -now known as Janus- left, Virgil brings up something that caught my attention....

39:49- “do not allow him or any of his friends to stick around that long ever again”

This caught my attention because he said friends instead of friend, and so far we only know of Remus and Janus, but Virgil says friends in the plural context meaning there’s another side we don’t know about yet!!

In the newest episode that I LOVEEE Janus mentioned some things that were taken into strong consideration, including something he said near the end of the episode, “Putting others first- selfishness v. Selflessness redux”

39:56- as all things should be, well almost all things”

(I apologize for the awful photo of this one) but he mentions somthing that caught my eye, he says “almost all things” which is interesting,

now this could just be him speaking of himself, but the way he put it made me think otherwise, as if there’s something they’re not aware of, and he knows it, possibly new dark side

We know that each side is given a colour, and the pattern seems to be the colours of the rainbow as seen below👇🏻👇🏻

Red - Roman

Orange- ???

Yellow- Janus

Green- Remus

Blue- Patton

Indigo- Logan

Violet/ purple- Virgil

And there’s still a colour missing, Orange. So as said by multiple other people, the theory of another Side isn’t impossible and the hints are leading to it

As understood within the fandom, Roman and Remus are complete opposites, and their colours show it, red and green being complimentary colours and on the opposite sides of the colour wheel.

Another theory I’ve seen is that each Light side has a dark side that contrasts it, so seeing as orange’s complimentary colour is blue, both @chonkypastorboi and I have thought that ...

Maybe the new character is the opposite of Patton, and since Patton is the heart, and morality, the opposite of that could be negative emotions that are the opposite of what Patton believes in??
