i like wesker and rebecca in a platonic way, in STARS era. he's a fuckass virology nerd, she's a chem nerd, i think he's delighted to hear that she's a good student but he's internally crying because in his eyes she's the only intellect around and he can't even be a nerd around her. she mentions continuing her studies and he's vibrating in place. he will personally fund her studies because yes he is an aspiring war criminal but he also wants more women in STEM just so that he's got more competition to crush. feminist but for the wrong reasons.

A conversation I don’t think yall are ready for yet is that you can love a character sooooo much and relate to them and see yourself in them but at the end of the day they’re still fake and that’s why someone else’s take on them or headcanon about them isn’t a direct message about you or insult to your identity. If your identity is so wrapped up in a character that you can’t distinguish between reality and fiction, then you are the problem. Not some random person online who interprets the character differently than you.

it's actually funny how Gale thinks of himself as (and sure, may well be) this socially awkward loner with a pinhead-sized social circle, because to me he's like, the glue holding the entire group together.

Everyone else has or starts off with some beef. Lae'zel and Shadowheart, Wyll and Karlach, Astarion and boar p much everyone...meanwhile, Gale is just there, chilling and vibing. He's naturally curious, open-minded, eager to learn, and his knowledge and life experience means it's pretty hard to shock him. Astarion is probably the closest thing to "rivalry" he really has, and even that only amounts to a bit of snark--and he defaults immediately to understanding and empathy around the vampirism reveal and all the problems that come with it.

Like, yeah, he can be a bit of a prat but like, they're all fucking insufferable in their own ways--WE all are, all people! I also assume his relationship with Mystra created a lot of friction, isolation and general disillusionment that was difficult to negotiate whilst he was in the thick of it, and it's harder to find clarity in isolation anyway, let alone when your head and heart are both scrambled.

idk, I'm rambling and not really looking to get into a whole thing about it, i just find it to be a sad facet of his overarching themes of diminished confidence and self-worth, need for love and acceptance.

and it's also like, super fucking relatable how a person can appear--and BE--supremely confident while also being utterly riddled with anxiety. How intelligent people are still so susceptible to the bitter fury of irrational emotions. How everyone at one point or another feels alone, even among peers, and the very wide gulf that often exists between the way we view ourselves and the way we are viewed by others, with neither side having a truly objective position.
