I'm here. That was truly all Lestat wanted, all he yearned for every moment of every day they were apart. And it was one thing, for him to travel to Dubai, to be with Louis, or for Louis to come to New Orleans for a time, but it was the saying goodbye that gutted him. Even with the advancements in technology, video and texting and voice calls, it was never enough. He was simply reminded of the distance every second he spent away from him. And it would not have been incorrect to say that Lestat often wondered if perhaps he was doing something wrong. That he had made a mistake or said the wrong thing or whatever it was because to his mind, something was keeping Louis from calling New Orleans home for good.
Something was stopping him from being with him, really being with him. In the beginning, he'd practiced the respect he felt the request for time warranted. But as time had gone on, and Louis seemed no closer to letting his life in Dubai, the life he had shared with Armand, go, Lestat fell into old habits. Insecurity, anxiety, paranoia. No matter how Louis reassured him, his brain was his own worst enemy. The only thing that seemed to quell the voices and the questions was his presence, and as they kissed, the rest of the world seemed to fall away. The intrusive thoughts were quieted, instantly, simply by his presence. He felt, for the first time in a long time, whole once again.
He slipped his fingers through Louis' and nodded. "Let's go, before I lose what little self control I have left," He teased, though he did lean in and kiss him again, soft and sweet. He had no idea what Louis had planned and frankly, didn't care. Anything, anywhere with Louis was better than no Louis, and so he'd happily go along with whatever. Maybe this was the trip where Louis would finally stay. Maybe he wouldn't have to say goodbye on worry about time zones or missing him. The only thing Lestat wanted, really was for them to be like they had. Well, better than. Version 2.0. There were things that were different, that had to be different, and he was okay with that. But whatever came next, he wanted them to be together, in every way that mattered and not thousands of miles apart.
Tumblr media
Every time Louis had made the flight back to New Orleans to be with Lestat, it felt longer and longer. Perhaps it was the anticipation of it all, but he couldn't be quite sure. Although he had intended for it to be another month or two before he made the trek back, he felt as if moving it sooner was a good course of action. He would see if it was correct, as it did feel that way in his heart. When the flight started, he texted Lestat, telling him that he was on his way. Although a book captivated his attention for the beginning of the flight, the sun quickly claimed him for rest.
Once he arrived at the airport, everything felt like it was happening so fast. Saif and Amir had already begun unloading his luggage, awaiting where exactly to put it. They were sure they would know soon enough and would be in tow. He thought about texting him but chose not to, choosing to read where he was instead of replying, then slipping his phone into his pocket instead. A slight surprise would be better.
A while later, he smiled as Lestat embraced him, putting his arms around him too. He closed his eyes briefly at the kiss before meeting his eyes after. "I'm here. I'm here," he said, saying it for him and for himself. "Shall we go? Saif and Amir got my luggage." After that, they were to have their own little vacation nearby unless needed, giving the two of them privacy. It was something he hadn't said to Lestat yet.

Of course time didn't heal all wounds. It was a trite platitude, but that was all he could offer in the aftermath of being made to dredge up his trauma for Claudia's satisfaction. Louis was no better for allowing the interrogation in the first place, but when was the last time Louis had tried to reign her in or remind her of her place? They were a team and when they weren't, Louis was simply a passive observer. He tried not to be bitter and resentful about it, but it was difficult. He did, however, put his free hand on Louis', whose hand was now held between both of his. A reassurance more for Louis, than for himself. He squeezed it, and shook his head. "What Magnus did to me was a very long time ago. I spent a hundred years mourning Nicki before I left that part of my life behind for good.
"I would have liked for it to stay in the past, but it seemed important that she....gather intelligence. You know she'll use it against me, no? She's too clever not to. She already has the knife, she simply wished to sharpen it." A pause. "You say no more secrets, Louis, but I never hid anything from you. Did it never occur to you to ask? There is no grand conspiracy to keep you weak and powerless. If I had shown you the true strength of my vampiric nature, you would have resented it. You would have come to hate me for the imbalance you have always perceived between us. I have given you everything. I simply want to be with you, here, now. And our daughter, no matter how vicious and poisonous she has become." He sounded earnest.
The bruises and cuts were still fresh from the night before at Antoinette's and the truth was, he did not mind. Louis had acted on passion and impulse, swam the river to find him, and he had even allowed the roughness with which Louis treated him because he knew it was cathartic. He had longed for that Louis, full of life, full of rage, claiming him. And then when it was over, he'd agreed to this inquisition. But no, it was not easy to discuss. And he did not think that Louis truly understood the enormity of asking him to relive the trauma and wrongs that had been done to him. He did not ask that of Louis, or of Claudia, but here they were. "We don't need to dwell on this any longer, mon cher. If you're satisfied, we can put it behind us, no?"
Tumblr media
Louis knew that he had to be firm throughout the conversation while sitting beside of Claudia, but he wasn't exactly sure that it would necessarily pertain to the conversation after. He knew she knew that, knowing it would be a point of contention later. For the moment, though, Louis didn't care. This was between them. Even with her temporarily gone for the moment, he could still feel the tension in the room, lingering like a fire that had just been put out.
He wasn't sure how he would respond to his concern, keeping his eyes on him as he spoke. While he knew how he would like him to respond, Lestat was going to react how he wanted after all. He didn't move the hand where it was, continuing to leave it, ensuring that the offer was still there. A quiet hope flickered within him.
The smile was one thing, yet he still wondered about him. Louis always wondered if 'time heals all wounds' was actually true or not. To him, he didn't really think so, but he supposed he could be wrong. Paul's death still weighed on him, even now - which may have given way to asking about his death. "Didn't exactly sound easier to talk about," Louis stated, eyes averting to the same door before shifting back to him. "She isn't, no. She's not exactly an easy one to be persuaded."

Louis spoke and Lestat listened, trying to parse together some kind of cause and effect, some kind of timeline, but there wasn't much to go on. I was fucked up is all. His voice was thick and his own words didn't seem to be doing much to convince Louis of his own story. An accident? How could it be an accident? It was very intentional, very purposeful to run out into the sun. Why had Armand not stopped him? Faster, stronger, and yet he'd only pulled Louis back after the damage had been done. Lestat thought, privately, that Louis would not have made it to the door if he'd been there. It was hard not to make judgment. Not on Louis, never on Louis. Louis was the victim here, grief stricken and driven to a suicide attempt. How long had he been dying inside? How long had he been suffering?
It was better Armand had gone. He would not have been patient or kind with the other man if he'd remained. As far as Lestat was concerned, he had a great deal to answer for. "Oh, Louis." He wanted to have more to say. To soothe or comfort. But it was very clear to Lestat that words would not be enough. A dark and humorless irony occurred to Lestat - this was the second man he'd loved that had given himself to the flames in Armand's care. Nicki had been broken, too. Lestat looked down at their hands, Louis' burnt flesh blackened and pink beneath, raw. He'd thought that he had an understanding with Armand. He was to look after Louis, make sure he was happy. He'd let him go only because Armand was meant to be whatever it was he needed, whatever it was Lestat couldn't be in that moment. Clearly, Armand had failed in his task.
Lestat raised his hand from Louis' and up to his face, tenderly cradling his jaw in his palm. "I'm here now. You're going to be alright. I promise." He wanted to hold him, embrace him, offer him whatever he could, but he was not certain Louis would have accepted it, even if he hadn't been in enormous amounts of pain. He sniffled, making a sound as he rubbed both his hands over his own face. He looked away, squeezing his eyes shut, cutting off the flow of tears until they were merely shining in his eyes. Then, he nodded. "The sun is down," he confirmed. He knew he needed to leave Louis' side to bring him something to eat, but he ached at the idea of it. He took a deep breath, and moved to standing. If he didn't do it now, he'd never leave and that wouldn't be ideal for either of them. "I'll be back. Try and rest."
He paused, his expression pained. He didn't want to cause Louis anymore anguish than he was already going through, but he needed to understand what he'd done. Lestat wet his lips, before he spoke again, voice low. "Your recovery...will not be swift, Louis. The sun is unforgiving. But I'll be here, for as long as you need me." And with that, before Louis could respond for better or for worse, he forced his feet to carry him from the room and out of the apartment, down to the street below to hunt.
Tumblr media
"IT'S EXQUISITE, " he parroted back Armand's words because he had no other way to describe it. Every move, word, and breath reminded him of what he had done. "Blood helped." And it wasn't a lie. Lestat's blood was like heroine. It warmed him more than the sun ever had in his mortal life, acted as an aloe to his wounds, and eased the burning in his lungs. His laboured breathing had eased with Lestat's arrival, and Louis chalked that up to the blood, too.
Lestat's pained expression and tears were enough to make Louis's own eyes dampen. Not having the strength to reach out again, Louis instead gave Lestat's hand a squeeze. The cord tying them together was taut with emotion. Louis' heart ached as though it had been burned too. Lestat wanted the truth, but his memory of the incident came in bits and pieces. The rest was told to him by Armand, making the entire moment a second-hand story at best. With a shaky breath, he spoke with a voice huskier than usual. "It was an accident, really. I was fucked up, is all." Fucked up enough to run into the sun.
"I was thinking of her..." His voice cracks at the admittance. "But it was an accident, I swear. I--" he shut his eyes tight and gave Lestat's hand a squeeze. The tears brimmed over once more. How ridiculous it was to fill himself up with Lestat's blood only to immediately lose it to grief. "Just lost my mind for a second, is all." Armand had been disgusted at such an explanation. But one look at Lestat reassured Louis that this sentiment was not shared.
As much as he would have preferred Lestat to stay, Louis knew he would only recover with human blood. After a deep, painful breath, he spoke, "There's a bar just a few blocks down. Plenty of unsuspecting young men. Easy enough to lure back." He wanted to ask, and you will come back, won't you? But stopped himself. The idea of thanking Lestat also came to mind, but once again, he held his tongue. Instead, he padded his instructions with, "sun should go down soon. If it's not already."

"they see what they want to see. i could tell them a hundred times that i'm a vampire and they probably wouldn't believe me, fangs and all. i've gorged myself on blood on stage and no one batted an eyelash." he took a drag from his cigarette, before regarding it as if he'd never seen it before. "tobacco is a plant," he says with a shrug. he puts it out though, after one more drag. he was being polite. he put the barely smoked cigarette back in the pack. "faerie's have special powers or something, don't they? something that makes them different from humans, besides the pointed ears?"
he sure hoped so or what even was the point. she hadn't divulged a lot of information about her race to him which was fair. he had tried to eat her. it wasn't his fault she smelled so good. lestat was reminded that he could just invade her mind and get whatever he wanted to know but it's been a long time since he'd done that. he hadn't made a habit of it since before louis, mostly because there was rarely anything interesting going on. it was like watching the most boring channel on tv. he needed novelty and excitement. it made life more exciting. "can't you just...use magic to hide them or something? rather than the beanie."
Tumblr media
the last time their paths crossed, nuala was fairly new to the waking world ... far too trusting considering her pench for getting into troubles. but never again. she can appreciate a friendship of sorts with someone close enough to what she is - where she comes from, still there's just the slightest hesitance as hand reaches over to grab the album. she does wonder for a moment if it would resell well on ebay just in case it's trash, of course. "so you're blending well enough among them?" if only she could say the same.
"ugh, seriously?" just a few steps back so that smoke doesn't stick on her clothes - she already has to deal enough with that whenever hanging out with victor and his crowd. "you ever considered going natural?" not that vaping shit everyone is going on about these days, of course. either way ... not her circus, certainly not her monkeys; humans and immortals are just as unkind to earth it seems. "it's the beanie," it's stupid but does a good job at keeping her ears covered most of the time. "mortals are assholes."

Some people say Lestat didn't regret what he did to Louis & he will do it again . Well I don't agree . This will be the reason why he will never let Louis near him again when he's losing himself in his own anger & violence .

"Mina," Lestat took her face between his hands, his expression serious. "I'm a very certain he expected success in this matter. You are still alive, and that puts an end to the attempt, at least for now. I doubt he has a mob of assassins waiting for us in the streets. I can hear no one and nothing of the sort. You're right, it would be foolish to go back to my home, for any length of time. And perhaps yours is comprised as well. But I can defend you. I can defend us. If there is something you need from your home, we will get it, and then we will disappear.
"It's a big city. He can't be everywhere at once and he can't move in the sun anymore than we can." Ironic that he might need the same gifts Armand had been teaching him about to defend them. He stroked her hair, tucked it behind her ear. "I need you to trust me. I know you don't feel safe. You might never feel safe again. But I'm here with you and I won't let him finish the job. He made a mistake in doing this, Mina." He dropped his hands. She was talking about a safe place and she wasn't wrong. He stood with her. "First, you need to feed, to complete the transition." A pause, and he smiled softly at her, a sad smile.
Will you come with me?
"Yes. Wherever we go, we will go together. I promise. But I need you to trust me. I can take care of us. I can find us somewhere to go until tomorrow night, somewhere here in the city. He will not touch you, Mina. He failed. He played his hand and he did not win. He underestimated you and me." It was an easy choice. At least, now it was. Armand had been calling to him for weeks, and he'd been torn between the life he offered with the coven and the thing he had with Mina, the connection, the bond. It seemed silly now that it had ever been in question. Armand had made his choice. He had chosen an attempt on her life, a last play to force Lestat to chose him, and in that, he had driven a dagger into Lestat's heart.
Mina's new blood was changing her, she could feel it almost spreading through her like Dracula's had done. Mina knew deep down Lestat had done it to save her, that he wouldn't force her into it if she'd said no. But she stillc ouldn't look at him, still couldn't focus on him. She was content in that moment nearly to let the madness take her. There was a darkness in her waiting to consume her for a long time and sat curled against the wall staring ahead and thinking to herself 'why not just give in? 'what is it all for now?'
And then he said THAT,t hat they should go to the townhouse and something snapped back into reality for Mina; there was a spark, there was a clarity and hse yanked her hands out of Lestat's grip and grabbed his shoulders desperately, "We can't go to the townhouse. He's smart, he'll have expected that vampire to die, he'll have had someone else watching. Our homes aren't safe."
She was in hunting mode now, and it was to protect herself because she needed something to keep her focused....to keep her 'her'."
"We have to go into hiding, find a place to hole up," she stood up and hid her trembling hands so he couldn't see that she wasn't keeping it together well, despite her mask, "And then we have to leave. It's not safe."
She looked at him, eyes an unsettling brown shade, there was a grimness to them, "Will you come with me?"
If he didn't come with her, that was it. She'd just walk into the sun so she didn't have to be this.
"I can't do this without you," she told him.

Lestat thought it was sweet that she was concerned about his modesty and any impropriety. He had been an object of desire for most of his adult life, from the time he'd turned sixteen and gone out into the world and ceased to be a child. It had been useful, in some cases, but in others, it has brought only misfortune and misery. Had he not been beautiful, perhaps his maker might have never become quite so obsessed with him. Perhaps all those before him needn't have died so Magnus could perfect his legacy before throwing himself into the flames.
Even his mother yearned to become him, to be as he was, unhappy in his own life, in her own body. As it was, Mina had not tried to bed him. Most women did. It wasn't arrogance, it was simply the truth. She seemed to respect him, to see him as a whole person and not just her own desire reflected back on her. Perhaps that was why he had had few women friends. Perhaps that why was he had few friends at all - the Lestat presented to the world was by and far different from the one that Mina knew. Gregarious, outgoing, extroverted and confident.
Beneath that, the mask he had found made people most comfortable, was someone uneasy and clingy and insecure, anxious and people pleasing. He felt like he was still that child, begging for Gabrielle to love him in a way he understood. As she helped him wash, it was not a motherly action (though perhaps he wouldn't have recognized it if it was) but it was familiar. Familial. If she was attracted to him, she'd never made the effort to tell him so. She was beautiful, of course, but there had been little time to admire it. In another life, if his humanity had not been taken, things might have been different.
For now, he was simply glad of her company and help. He'd eaten too much and his stomach felt overfull, though he didn't complain. Criminals, yes. He could find them, identify them, know their crimes and feed on them, either to leave them alive or dead. Dead was easier and better for him, but they couldn't stay in one place if he were dropping bodies. Only so many throats could be ripped out, people drained of blood, before patterns would be recognized. "For those who want to do differently, there might be a way. If we could show them. But some of them...will always be vampires.
"You don't know what it's like to be other than what you are. The degree of separation between what they were and what they are now. Some simply enjoy it, Mina. And some are following instincts." He dropped his hand into the water. "You won't be able to change them all. You know that, don't you? Some like what they are. Prefer it, even. And you will be hard pressed to change their mind about the eating of sentient creatures when your kind do it on a mass scale." Perhaps a cow or a pig did not speak or feel the same way humans did, but that wasn't the point.
Mina tried not to pay too much to his body over the weeks they'd known each other since oftentimes he was close by if not next to her during thier journies. But she took note of his broad shoulders, his muscular arms and chest but didn't look any further down than that. It just felt immodest, especially right now.
Mina dipped the rag in the tub and raised it back up to wash the blood off his neck and chest, "We should practice on criminals first, maybe. Maybe work on compelling them as well. If they remember and say a strange man bit them but there's no mark and they're alive? People will just think they're insane. Or if they're really vile, you could just kill them if you don't want to feed from me"
They had their chance ad Mina would rather he feed on her on a night he couldn't find a criminal than feed on someone else that didn't deserve it. Though she also knew that she was small compared to him. her body couldn't take multiple feedings a week even if he was giving his own blood in exchange.
Mina looked down at the hand on her arm as he promised her he just needed practice. She wanted to believe him, needed to believe him.
Damn Magnus for doing this like he did.
Damn her for not getting to the tower fast enough.
"I didn't decide anything, you ARE different," she told him, stroking his hair gently, almost tenderly, "I guess it was when I woke up after you'd attacked me, and you were trying to give me your blood. It wasn't.....it wasn't like Dracula and what he did. You weren't malicious. You were trying to save my life. I don't know a vampire that ever would have done that. So maybe, if you're different, if we can find a way to teach you to control it...then it can open up the possibility that others don't have to be like the old guard. They could learn to control it too"
Because wiping out the vampires was not working. There were too many. Now that Mina was attached to one, she couldn't wipe them all out, She could never hurt him physically, nor would she let others hurt him.
