Fall’s quickly approaching and I’d just like to offer a friendly reminder that the Ainsley-Poinsette Academy is still offering enrollment for our literacy classes.  If I can learn to read, you can too, darlings~

[Vladimir’s sitting on a bench in Goodneighbor, a flock of pigeons (fanged and a bit more dinosaur-like than their pre-war counterparts) surrounding him pecking at scraps and occasionally biting each other.  He has a particularly large bird sitting on his lap and cooing gently as he strokes her head.]

🔥 for Vlad!
Mayonnaise.
It.
Is.
Good.
It is not the fault of me that you people are wrong in your hearts and do not understand proper food.  Haha, I am going to go home and make dressed fish with mayonnaise in it.  You cannot stop me.  It is good.

[Poinsette Facts: Vladimir’s had to deal with former friends turning on him after he stayed with Yves after becoming a ghoul and he’s lost patience with people giving him a hard time about it.  Vlad’s knees may be shot but he can (and will) still throw down if you piss him off that.]

Shockingly perhaps, I don’t understand suit kink and perhaps I never will; in fact, I find it actively horrid.  Yes, yes, I look very nice in suits (I look very nice in most things, darling) but they’re my work clothes.  Stuffy.  Uncomfortable.  Businesslike.  Ugh, it’s so widespread here in Goodneighbor among certain scenes that I frequent and I detest it.  It bores me.  It’s not erotic, dears.  You can’t go to a nice get-together without some upstart thinking he’s very sexy bringing his ill-fitting suit into the scene.  Get it fitted at least, for fuck’s sake.
If you bring a suit into my bedroom, then I’m very sorry but I will be distracted by the fact that you’re going to wrinkle and stain the poor thing.  Do you know how expensive they are?  You really must treat your fine clothing better than that, love.  It breaks my heart to see good suits abused.
Now, leather, I understand that.  Suits though?  They aren’t sexy and everyone is wrong.

for Yves 🔥
If Goodneighbor is to succeed (and under Hancock, I feel as if it’s ready to progress), then it must, absolutely must take a leaf from Diamond City’s book and open a school that’s free to all children regardless of economic level.  Yes, yes, perhaps I’m a hypocrite; after all, I do operate a school for adults that’s paid.  I would, of course, like to open a free school at a future date, but as it is, I’m managing three separate businesses on top of my personal commissions; my plate is extremely full.
Many in Goodneighbor oppose this on sheer principle that Diamond City is the enemy, but that doesn’t mean we can’t steal good ideas.  There are some as well that are opposed to public education because they don’t see it strictly necessary.  Nonsense.

Yves’ Mother: Marian McCrae
Tumblr media
GENERAL
Full name: Marian Mae McCrae, née O’Brien
Nickname(s): Mary-Mae
Date of birth: February 21, 2193
Place of birth: Berkley, MA
Nationality: White American, mostly Irish-Scottish Descent
Occupation: Prior to her marriage to Stanley McCrae, she was his nanny/maid/general servant.  After her marriage, she was more or less the same.  After he was drowned in the swamp, she became the de facto matriarch of the McCrae clan (even if one of her sons was nominally the leader) but has found her power waning in the past decade or two as age catches up to her and her hold on her descendants lessens.
APPEARANCE
Faceclaim: Sandy Dennis
Height/Weight: 5′5″, around 100 pounds
Hair: Once scraggly and pale blonde, rarely longer than her shoulders; now what remains is wispy and white.
Eyes: Narrow with a sharp gaze; brown.
Distinguishing characteristics: Pale and sickly looking for most of her life, looking as if the radiation was sinking in and not going away; small, quick hands; a nervous, frenetic energy about her as if she might snap at any moment; perpetually exhausted.
BACKGROUND
Last residence: Prior to her marriage, berkley, MA.  Currently resides in Bridgewater and has for the last 70+ years.
Education: None.
Father: Daryl O’Brien
Mother:  Doris Kelley
Siblings:  Fay, Jocelyn, Priscilla, Octavia, Abigail
Spouse(s):  Stanley McCrae (deceased)
Children:
Children by birth: Jane, Judy II, Joan, Dan, Dan, Davis, Dave, Dane, Daryl, Judy II (deceased), Dean, (deceased), Judith (deceased), David II (Yves-Marie Poinsette), various deceased children who didn’t make it to adulthood
Stepchildren: Donovan, Jordan (deceased), Daniel, Dallas, Judy (deceased), David I (deceased), Dan (deceased), Jenny (deceased), June (deceased)
History: Marian was born into a small farming village, the youngest of several daughters of a poor farmer.  At the time, the area was still ruled by the McCrae clan (a borderline-raider dynasty), though their grasp on the area was waning even then.  Even still, it was far preferable to be on their good side than bad, and, with that in mind and mounting debts, her father thought it only logical to ingratiate himself to the McCraes.
It became known one day that the heir apparent of the McCrae clan was looking to bring in someone to keep house and watch the children as his wife, Wynona, was dealing with another complicated pregnancy and struggling with the high mortality rate of her children; the fact that he could watch his own children was not something that would have ever occurred to him.  Daryl offered Marian up to Stanley as an helper for his wife and into the compound she was taken, never seeing her family again.
To say that Wynona was not pleased with this is an understatement but there was little she could do in the situation.  It wasn’t long before she was pregnant; it wasn’t long after Marian’s first few pregnancies before Wynona was out of the picture, drowned in the swamp.
Over the years, Marian amassed more and more children.  She might not have set out to be a bad mother at the start...but by the time that Yves came around, she was quick-tempered, snappish, and blatantly neglectful of the children she didn’t think were strong enough to survive in the shop, occasionally forcing out mostly older children into faraway settlements with a few caps and little else when she felt there were too many of them.
Her husband was the warlord of the McCrae clan but he was significantly older, and as he aged, her grip on his heirs tightened until she was ruling the clan by proxy.  The decay of the McCrae’s power began long before Stanley ever ruled it and has continued into the present day.  Marian is certain that they could rule as kings again if her descendants just applied themselves, but her eldest children have already passed away from old age and few of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have any interest in chasing after old dreams, focusing instead on bare survival or trying to find a life outside the swamp and its insular, cultish politics.
Marian is in her 90s now and resides in a crumbling old compound in the heart of the swamp.  Yves inherited her slight figure, foxish features, and driven, single-minded nature from her; of her children, he looks the most like her (or did) with the except of his red hair.  He recognizes aspects in his own character that remind him of her and he’s perturbed by that; it’s one reason he doesn’t feel comfortable in anything like a parental role around children.

34. What path appeals to you more? An exciting dream that leaves you possibly penniless and alone or a drab existence where you have steady success.
Darling, my idea of excitement these days is a quiet afternoon at home spent eating an entire loaf of bread and napping in the sitting chair.  I am drab and successful.  My god, I get excited over organizing my closet, I have a home office, I have house plants.  I’m boring, darling, I’m an absolute bore in a great outfit.
And you know what?  I will gladly take being absolutely and completely boring over the alternative if the alternative is being exciting and broke.  People die here because they don’t have the caps to heat their homes, to buy enough food to last winter, to buy basic medical supplies.  I’ve been there, pet, and I am not doing that again.
I am boring and, make no mistake, very, very rich, and I’d not like to compromise that at all, thank you.

15. Is lying to others to gain their approval more important than being genuine and hated?
My dear, as with all things in life, there are no absolutes.  It’s all dependent on your circumstances.  Were you born into wealth and prestige, hm?  Then by all means, you can be hated as you please without having to worry about repercussions.  Are you a little Goodneighbor gutter rat without a cap to your name?  You can either flounder and die or you can learn to lie when you need to and live.
I’m a rat, darling.  You have to be if you’re going to succeed in this city.  By no means do I enjoy it but sometimes in life, one must swallow your pride, lie sweetly, and ingratiate yourself to people if you want to succeed; that is, until you get to a place where you’re secure enough not to have to do that anymore.  In this city, you’ll disappear if you lack power and cross the wrong people.
I’m in a good place now, darlings.  I worked very hard to get here.  I’ll piss whoever I want -within reason- without consequence now.

Interview my OC about questions that has no easy answer.
1. Which should be saved – a bus full of innocent lives or a loved one?
2. You meet a man who has killed someone and done time for it before. Does this factor into how you treat him? Will he ever truly escape that sin?
3. If you could jump back through time to save a loved one’s life, would you? Despite what it might to do the timeline? To everyone else? Do you believe it is their fate to die regardless?
4. You have a secret you swore not to reveal. But this secret is the only thing that would prove your innocence in a separate matter. Is it worth risking your own well-being for the secret? Or would you betray the trust given to you?
5. Is it better to hurt others before they hurt you or let yourself be walked all over and hurt by others?
6. If you tell the truth, an evil person gets to walk away free. If you lie, you may be able to send them away like they deserve. Is honesty worth more than justice?
7. You have the key to immortality in your hands. But not for free. If you want it, as a price, your worst enemy also gains immortality. Is it worth it?
8. If you could gain as much money as you want for losing a sense, would you do it?
9. Can people be held accountable for things people close or related to them did or are they innocent?
10. If a lot of people, possibly innocent people, have to die in order to make a real change, is it worth it? Can you live with their deaths even if it helps people in the present?
11. Imagine there is a beast that craves attention. If you ignore it, despite being deadly, it will leave you alone. Could you live like that? Even if it possibly attacked others? Would you try and challenge something that unknown?
12. If someone else stole something and you stole it back is that a good deed, a bad deed or one of equal worth? Are you better than the original thief?
13. Could you sacrifice yourself for the good of everyone else?
14. What of love? Say you discover your lifelong crush on another has finally been reciprocated… but they are currently dating a family member or a dear friend the crush feels responsible to honour. Do you force the break up? Date on the side? Bottle it up forever?
15. Is lying to others to gain their approval more important than being genuine and hated?
16. Have you ever contemplated killing someone? Who and why? Would you ever act on it? Are you frightened you might?
17. Have you ever gotten sheer joy out of hurting someone else, either physically or mentally? To whom and why? Did it scare you?
18. Have you ever done something morally wrong? If it’s morally wrong do you regret it?
19. What is more likely a thought to you – that this world is wrong or that you are wrong?
20. Are there people in this world who, no matter how much time and penitence is given, should never be forgiven?
21. Are there people in this world you simply think the world would be better without? If you could erase them out of existence without physically murdering them, would you?
22. How do you feel about having an intimate relationship with someone you don’t love? What if they love you in return? Does that make you feel guilty?
23. Could you ever become your own hero? Is that a role you can fulfil or is it something you look to others for?
24. How do you feel about tears? Are they cowardly and weak? Do you cry? Would you consider that shameful?
25. What is more important to you? An idea of yours being used and appreciated or the credit for that idea beings yours and yours alone?
26. Is your personal happiness more important than anything else in the world? Than fame? Than the happiness of others?
27. How far would you go to achieve a dream or ideal? Does it matter who suffers? Does it matter if you suffer?
28. How long would you wait for the one you love? A year? Fifteen years? Forever? Could you honestly be loyal to an unfulfilled love?
29. Is genius equal to hard work? Does a genius deserve praise for doing well without effort? Are they above us?
30. Do we live in a world of parallels? Can there be no hope without grief? No happiness without suffering? Or is a utopia possible?
31. What is more important to you? Being respected and praised by your elders or being looked up to and championed by those younger or of the same age?
32. If you could choose to remove certain feelings such as anger, confusion, sadness, would you remove them?
33. If you could wipe certain memories from your head, would you? Why would you? What memories?
34. What path appeals to you more? An exciting dream that leaves you possibly penniless and alone or a drab existence where you have steady success.
35. Is every person in this world wholly unique or can they be categorized? Can they be grouped and mentally dissected? Are you just another sheep in another flock or are you the sole unique soul?

Ainsley-Poinsette Publications would just like to issue a reminder that we are built on the ideology that correct information must be spread to the masses for the benefit of society as a whole, and because of that, we have no interest in printing material in favor of certain anti-technology and anti-ghoul groups.  Thank you~

[If you need either Poinsette, you’re in bad luck because they are both thoroughly occupied celebrating their wedding anniversary.  Vladimir spent a good chunk of last night trying to find another anniversary gift for his husband and wound up with an entire box full of dildos, so, you know, Yves has elected to take a vacation from work for a bit.]
