The energy was palpable at Sutter Elementary School on Monday morning. Kids swarmed onto the blacktop, bouncing and screaming, but it wasn’t your typical recess that caused all the excitement. It was the solar eclipse. “I think it’s very interesting with the glasses because you can’t see anything except that shining bright sun,” said Elsa, 11. “I think it’s cool. It’s kind of like the moon except it’s orange,” said Anvi, 11. Read complete news at svvoice.com.

While the recent restoration of paramedic services to Sunnyvale was a victory for residents, it still doesn’t address the larger issue. Late last year, the Public Safety Officers’ union raised the alarm bell that a paramedic shortage was causing delayed response times, putting lives at risk. Sunnyvale is a bit of an oddity: its officers are essentially cops, firefighters and emergency medical technicians (EMTs). But they aren’t paramedics. Read complete news at svvoice.com.

Santa Clara City leaders face a big decision on Tuesday. Agree to settle with the 49ers and quash all pending litigation or continue to fund a legal battle that has been raging for more than five years. The Forty-Niners Management Company (ManCo) has offered the Santa Clara Stadium Authority (SCSA) $18 million to resolve two current legal disputes. Both sides would also return to the table to talk about concessions that could resolve future issues. Read complete news at svvoice.com.

The Fremont Firebirds fell 8-2 to the Los Gatos Wildcats on Monday, but the final score is rather misleading. Firebirds starting pitcher Jiyah Caban was far and away the Firebirds’ player of the game as one could make the case that none of the Wildcats’ first five runs should have scored. The first two runs in the bottom of the first were both unearned. And with some cleaner defense behind her, Caban arguably should have had a shutout going after four innings of work. If you don’t like the results of a survey, just call into question the methods used to gather the data — at least that is what many attending the Santa Clara City Council’s priority-setting session seemed content to do. At the first of two priority-setting sessions Monday, many, including several Council members, challenged the results of a community survey conducted by EMC Research, a public opinion consultant. The death last Monday of former city manager Jennifer Sparacino gave the final punctuation to the end of an era in Santa Clara — an era of long-tenured City staff who came up through the ranks, as Jennifer did; getting her lessons in municipal management from legendary city manager Don Von Raesfeld. Her lowkey style tended to obscure her truly momentous achievements — starting with her first big achievement: the purchase of the land under Great America in 1983. Read complete news at svvoice.com.
