It took Jesse a second to realize what he was doing with his hands. When they were all caught up, they grinned knowingly and signed back in PSE, clumsy and slow, but formal and legible: “No worries. I, J-e-s-s.” That, and other daily colloquialisms were about the extent of their sign knowledge. “If I wanted a tattoo, like this big,” they held their hands up in a frame the size of a book cover, “on my hip, how much would it run me?”

A small smile adorned his face when he saw Jess reply to him in sign language. Santi nodded at his question slowly, thinking about it for a second before writing out another message on his phone and showing it to them. ‘ it could be about $200 to $900 depending on how intricate the design is, if you want color, and if you the tattoo you want is one already displayed in the parlor. ’
