for the first time, i have been shown the first two 50 shades of gray movies. seeing the woman get humiliated over and over again left me feeling slimy and dirty. the man had a very flat affect the whole time, and his violent tendencies ended up being his mothers fault, of course. he asks her to marry him, which makes her rapturously happy. i watched as much as i could.. i did my best
and no advice, i see, on how to choose a man who will not beat you. you’re just supposed to know, somehow.
This popped up on my instagram Explore page and it's extremely depressing that art/memes can be made about women fearing domestic violence if they choose the wrong man, and the pic can easily get 10k likes because that’s how common violence against women is, the fear of it even more so. I'm sure men don't share posts fearing that their future wives might beat them
(I don't really like the use of the word "choose" in the picture here, since people don't choose to be DV victims, but it might just be sloppy wording)
i don’t understand why it’s so controversial to state the obvious fact that porn consumption can cause or exacerbate gender dysphoria.
i don’t understand why people can’t imagine that a porn habit might lead a girl to hate her own femaleness, or a boy to wish to become an object of lust and fixation.
the ones making money off pornography and off gender transition don’t want the truth to get out. but we know the truth. if you’ve been there you KNOW that it’s so. they can’t make us unknow it.
“the capitalist system holds that our worth is tied to our productivity” i can’t stand this crap because no, you’re thinking of other people. capitalism will handsomely reward people who don’t produce much, but your worth to your friends, family, and fellow strangers depends on what you can do for them. so what are you contributing? how did you make someone else’s life easier today? how many good trees have been cut down, while you yet stand, protesting that you shouldn’t be judged by your fruit?
can i ask what kind of “mistake” nonbinary folks are making? many of them have physical dysphoria, and experience relief through medical transition (hormones, top surgery, bottom surgery). not all of them do, of course, but a good portion of them do resort to physical transition. they seek care from the same medical specialists as binary trans people, and often for very similar healthcare procedures.
if both binary trans people and nonbinary folks can access the same kinds of medical care, from the same medical specialists, and experience similar relief from dysphoria, then what makes them so different?
Gender is an invention of the patriarchy.
Gender ROLES -- the stereotypes and social expectations associated with the sexes -- are an invention, that all people have some part in creating and perpetuating, due to unconscious biases and the human need to see patterns and attribute them to people in certain categories. They are assumptions rather than natural, unchangeable facts of how we exist, and gender roles that subjugate can and should be questioned and dismantled.
Gender IDENTITY -- the function of the brain that gives us the conviction of belonging to one sex or the other -- is an innate, fixed biological trait, with compelling neurological research supporting the fact. The vast majority of people are born with a gender identity that's congruent with their natal sex, but it's possible for the brain to develop in a way that doesn't match the sex of the body, and so it’s important to understand the differences between sex, gender identity, and gender roles in order to support people who are born that way.
my mom is really talking about having a “dry” thanksgiving bc her boyfriend’s alcoholic brother will be there. girl if you are not opening a beer at 10 am bc people are starting to trickle in and you’ve got all 4 burners going, is it even thanksgiving? he can deal
hey just so you know, there are many trans people who would disagree that gender identity means “the function of the brain that gives us the conviction of belonging to one sex or the other”.
many nonbinary people, for instance, identify as trans. they also identify as neither male nor female. they experience nonbinary gender identities that are not grounded in a “conviction” that they belong in a certain sex class, but are outside the binary “boxes” alogether.

my heart rate variability (hrv) was unusually low two nights in a row, due to staying up too late and drinking too much. but it was in my normal range last night, so while i did wake up tired, i rallied in time for a limited-equipment 25 minute grind before work 🏋🏻
Jail doesn’t have the latest and greatest shows. You might be surprised to find this out. Instead, there’s a network of pre-recorded, years-old garbage where some international entertainment crook is stacking paper as a result of their strategic acquisition of rights to movies that are so bad they won’t even be shown on airplanes anymore. A funnel of cash just drops directly into their lap, courtesy of people who are imprisoned being kinda bored.
It sure seems like a racket to me, and I don’t like it when there’s a racket around that I’m not making money from. That’s why Seat Safety Switch Penal Servitude Solutions has stepped up to the plate. We’ve gotten our hands on only the finest 1970s television for which the original rights holders have died or disappeared, and we license it for a cheap flat rate to your local for-profit detention centre. Sure, it’s still not current, but let’s be honest: at the rate Hollywood is going, they’ll be rebooting some of this stuff pretty soon anyway, and you can just squint at the set to make it sort of blurry and pretend it’s supposed to be HD.
We hope that the increased entertainment value of these classics will help you blow through the time you owe to society with a little more enjoyment. And hey, we haven’t forgotten about educational value. That’s right: we’ve also gotten ahold of billions of hours of instructional videos from YouTube, all of which have fewer than 100 views, so it’s not like they’re gonna find out. Prisoners will be able to learn thousands of new skills, which will help them lead a productive life when on the outside. Sure, we don’t actually know what’s in those videos – there are an awful lot of them – but we’re fairly confident that at least 1% of them have some educational value. Again, we pass the savings on to you.
So come on down to your local jail for a misdemeanour or even unpaid parking ticket and see what we’ve got cooking for entertainment. You might like it so much that you won’t want to leave! Just don’t get too stabby. Not all the prisons have signed on for our deal, and as anyone who’s been to either will tell you, jail is different from prison.
This to me is very similar to dismissing women's discomfort with gynecology but honestly to a new level. Like, at least with the gyno, that dismissal is towards grown women who can choose to not go anyway. Like, still a problem in my eyes because some women could cause some emotional damage by not listening to herself and going when she's not ready for it.
But to enforce tampon usage on little girls is disgusting to me. Punishing little girls for not using tampons. It's outright sexual assault at that point to tell a girl she has to use a tampon, has to penetrate her vagina, to not fail a class.
I'm just sick of people acting like your vagina is only an intimate area that you should have full control over when someone is aroused about it. The idea that you shouldn't have any feelings towards penetration as long as it isn't sexual. The idea that we are just made to be penetrated and should just shut the fuck up and take it. I hate it so fucking much.
