Episode 20 convinced me that the makers sold the concept of the drama to whoever financed it as “we are going to get a really hot guy in period costume and make him SUFFER!!!! And suffer and suffer and suffer and suffer. We have many loving, vaguely indecent close-ups planned of his gorgeous suffering.”
Works for me.
PS Still not as bad as Sifeng’s day is about to get.
Liu Yuning as Yuanzhou - It's my first time watching something with LYN and I loved him in the lead role. He manages to be quite charismatic and attractive in those 6 ft 2 in and perfectly embodies Yuanzhou, an intelligent, strong and honorable man and a perfect leader.
I am watching/posting enough stuff for this to become necessary again.
First, I read a ton of “traditional” and web novels, mainly period, and watch American, European, and Turkish shows as well as Indian movies, Asian dramas and telenovelas.
Second, if you can’t find what I am watching with English subs (less likely for dramas than other stuff I watch), I don’t have secret subs, I am just trilingual (English/Ukrainian/Russian) and am probably watching with Russian subs since Russian lang sub comm for eg Turkish shows is huge.
Third, as I am sure anyone following this tumblr for more than a hot minute figured out, my main interest is in period stuff. It doesn’t mean I don’t watch/read things with a modern setting but I am usually more into period stuff.
Fourth, shows I am watching atm are:
Hard to Find (China) - fantasy, love, revenge and a LOT of wind machines.
The King’s Woman (China) - one of the best examples of “bad guy in love” narratives.
Legend of Fuyao (China) - rewatch of this awesomeness.
Lovely Runner (Korea) - a story of second chances.
The Midnight Studio (Korea) - a quirky supernatural tale with a seriously dark underpinning.
Princess Agents (China) - Zhao Liying as a force of nature with dudes pining for her as they should.
The Princess’ Man (Korea) - rewatch of my favorite sageuk of all time.
Queen of Tears (Korea) - a an oddball romance with both tragic and comedic undertones.
Unknown (Taiwan) - slice of life Priest adaptation.
Yabani (Turkey) - my Turkish soap obsession.
Fifth, I am reading a lot (largely fantasy, adult and YA, and also period romance) so there will be a lot of that on this tumblr.
Trailer for Liu Xueyi and Tang Yan’s A Moment But Forever xianxia.
I have been fond of Tang Yan forever, since her Chinese Paladin 3 days (I think she’s an actress with a narrow range but works well within it and I find her ridiculously beautiful) and we all know how I feel about LXY (so glad he’s finally in his leading man era!)
Xianxia is a hit or miss genre for me (when it works it really works but a lot of time it doesn’t) so hopefully it’s the former this time. Not in love with the usual pastel set design but if the story is good (and the trailer looks promising that way), then I don’t care.
Now the wait for when it will air (next month? In the summer? 2025? 2038? It’s iQIYI, anything is possible) begins.
