“Come on, give me your honest opinion JK”, Namjoon insisted. “What do you think?”

“I have to say, it is bigger than expected.”, I responded while looking around. “The living room itself is HUGE. How much did this place cost you?”

“Unimportant details.”, Namjoon scoffed and waved his hand before his face.

I looked around once again – the place was huge. The living room was connected to the kitchen, making it appear even bigger.

A spiral staircase was leading to the bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs. The house even had a garage and a study.

“So, tell me, why do you need three bedrooms and three bathrooms if you live alone?”, I asked and laughed at him.

“You know, planning for the future.”, Namjoon answered with a boyish grin. “Besides, guests are always welcome to stay over when they want to. Did you see that every bedroom has a balcony? Balconies Jungkook! I have balconies!”

“I did notice - you made it hard not to the first ten times you mentioned it.”, I teased. “I am really happy for you, you finally got what you worked so hard for.”

Namjoon laughed and took a sip of his drink. It seemed as if the music was getting louder. The party was getting started.

I knew almost everyone who was attending – old and new friends of Namjoon’s, some closer than others. Some brought a plus one and some friends invited friends of friends.

Namjoon did not mind though – he wanted to have a fun house-warming party. “The more, the merrier.”, he always used to say. He seemed to have the same motto for tonight’s alcohol intake.

“You did go all out.”, I mentioned while pointing to the counter in front of me. Namjoon improvised a bar and set up glasses, mixers and too many bottles of alcohol. “Did you buy all of that?”

“Nah, most of it was sent to me by sponsors.”, he cockily answered. “We can go all out tonight without worrying about tomorrow.”

I chuckled.

I felt good, comfortable. Namjoon had this gift. No matter the situation, no matter the new environment, he always made his closest friends feel comfortable and wanted. Hell, he made me feel as if his new house was my house too.

I looked behind my shoulder and saw you sitting on the corner couch, chatting and laughing, happily sipping on your cocktail.

You caught my glance and gave me a cute smile. I reciprocated. I felt even better than seconds before.

“So-“, Namjoon snapped me out of it. “-same old?”

“Same old.”, I sighed and slightly rolled my eyes.

“You’re too old for this now Jungkook. You haven’t seriously dated until now because of her.”, he scolded. “Are you so scared of her answer?”

“Fucking terrified.”

“What if you don’t have to be?”

We had this conversation many times before and it always ended in the same way – me getting annoyed at him because he was, in fact, right.

“And what if I ruin everything?”, I asked back. “We have been best friends for years now. We even live together.”

“I know you do, and I know you’re scared. But you guys have gotten so close that anyone who doesn’t know your relationship will think you are together.”, Namjoon rebuked.

He was right. It has gotten to the ridiculous point where holding hands or hugging felt pleasant and not awkward or tense.

We have gotten so comfortable with one another that me randomly picking you up now would feel natural and people around us would just accept it for what it was: two very close friends.

I pursed my lips and looked at Namjoon’s concerned face. “What if I ruin all of that just because I can’t control my stupid feelings?”

His expression changed – he started to smile and then put his arm around my shoulder.

“But what if you don’t, JK?”, he asked. “What if you don’t?”

I needed a drink.
