“Insieme Senza Paura” PosterÂ
This is my favourite and completed poster I made, but I am still unsure if it can be called a poster, because I feel I am not exactly explaining the message of the image. However I will still show you the process.Â

My aim was to use this image from the beginning, because I think it is very sensitive and lively image.I liked how it focus on the building and the surroundings are barely focused.

This is my first editing with Cutout filter, I reduced the number of levels and increase edge simplicity, because I do not want to get rid of the details in the buildings. i stabled the sky, there are no shading.Â

I was happy with the filter applied, it was all natural, so I started to include the text with various styles. I tried different fonts and colours, but I was still not happy how it looked, I was not sure if it was the text or the filter, but I kept going and trying diverse positions for text.Â

I removed the text I applied and start again and give a different atmosphere to the image. This is a very soft and delicate pastel effect, It desaturate all the colours and it make a unique thing. I like how it rends the house next to Santa Maria very old and detailed. the windows are evident and the colours are harmonious.Â
This poster is inspired by Classic, Vintage Tourism Poster in the history and they used to have this style to publish the country/city. The frame is important, as you see from the primary resource below. I noticed that the frame is very light compare to the image, is almost whit, however, I like the both colours because they matched with the tones of the picture. Eventually, I chose the right one because the other one was to dark.Â

(primary resource of vintage tourism poster in Italy)

In this step I add the text and I chose the first font I liked it, I left it very simple and I did not do any editing, because based on my research the font is always kept simple and classic. I start to dislike it because the lines of the letters are too thin that is barely readable.Â

Then I made a list of the most favourite and suitable fonts for the poster. It became difficult in choosing because all at some point looked better in their way.Â

I think this is the most that matches the image, it is very basic and comprehensible. It is even so they aren’t any trouble to understand it. The text it is in Italian, that says “Together, without fear”, this text it is used in every poster and billboard in Italy, so I thought it is a very strong message that I could convey.Â

Venice
This is an image I created with Photoshop Adobe. After experimenting with different material I decided to have a go with digital learning. In this image I wanted to demonstrated that Venice is still beautiful with a virus going on and that we shouldn't give up so easily. The only thing that is missing in this image is the text which will explain nicely the image purpose.Â

These are some shots I took, most of them I forgot to adjust the lighting, which is why the background is darker than the figure. However, in the end, I reserved it, I increase the shadows on the figure and lighten in the background. I struggled a bit because I took it with my iPhone XR and the weather was dim.
I was really confused about the background picture and these two were my favourites. Because you can spot out that the city is Venice. the reason why I end up choosing the right photo is because of The Church of San Giorgio Maggiore, and because I have created this scene in many different ways.Â
I noticed that the sky was plain and I wasn’t satisfied with that because it rends the image less attractive. So, I decided to Photoshop the sky with milky clouds based on the atmosphere of the Church. I liked the right image because the sky is soft and light.

In this step, I adjusted the background that suitable the most the picture. I just need to add a filter and text that described the situation.Â
In this process, I applied filter and adjusted the brightness and contrast. I went through many steps to have this effect. This is an oil effect picture, where it smooths the texture and reduces the details as well. I was not content with the colours that surrounded the view, so I quickly apply a black & white effect on the figure. Here, I thought that it gave a dramatic mood on the image and I started to like it.Â
The next day I start to dislike the Oil paint filter because I thought it ruins the minimum architectural details of the Chruch. Then I tried to apply a soft pastel effect (on the left side) but it was matching the vibe I want to portray. Thanks to Camera Raw Filter I was able to adjust a soft pastel vintage effect and this is my favourite and last choice.Â

Threshold Effect
Threshold is an effect on Photoshop. A full-colour photo can be turned into a black outline. This technique involves creating a different shade of colour to four different layers, all increasing levels of threshold. The result is a “layered threshold”.

This is the original picture, as you can see the building is the main object and people and the house are just filling up the little space to do not look it empty. I tried to have a look by removing every thing that surrounds the building, but in my opinion it started to look empty and boring, hence I prefer the picture natural as it is.Â

In my next step I simply apply the threshold filter in the layer section and then adjusted the level that best suits my picture. Since the building and the houses in the back are light and people in front are dark, I need to adjust the contrast for each differently so they can look even.Â
In this screenshot I am demonstrating the steps I went through to stable the lighting and the darkness. In the first picture, with curves tool I showed the details and removed the tiny bits of dots it had before. In the second picture I refine the shapes of the houses with the curve tool, and in the third photo I black out every thing else, so I can make it stand more the building and the houses in the back. In my last step I apply the colour bright blue on the black shade and then turned it to the difference layer effect.

This is the part where I apply text and I am still working on. I am still unsure on how to adjust the text with the empty space and which font is suitable in which size. I am very confused because I am still not sure which message I should put in. So far, I am happy with this look, but I still think it needs more work to make it perfect.Â

These are some pictures that I took when I went to Italy last time. These picture I will be using for my digital work, I will try my best to don’t use any images from the internet, in this case I can make my own work. These are the best pictures I took and that are my favourites. Some of them aren’t took in good proportions but I will be able to adjust that according to the design I will create.

Scratch-board Art
I am in love with this design and it is my most favourite. I love the design I chose to scratch and I love the technique I used. Everything was done without planning perfectly, in fact I started this as a fun for myself during my free time, but I love how it turned out. I am happy that I used a different method rather than paint and pencil, this was totally different experience, especially staying at home and without my tutor advice at moment. I have done once the scratchboard in stage 2, and I just followed my tutor advice back then on how to make it look better.Â

I used a scraping tool to cut into black to reveal the white layer below and it results with light lines against the dark background. This work is considered a type of engraving and it is created by making repeated small lines, strokes and marks. I used cross-hatching lines to rend my work darker and more detailed. The design onto the scrape boards make a dramatic impression that emerges from the black background.

Silhouette PaintingÂ
This sample is made by mix of watercolour, acrylic paint and charcoal. I painted on a very sensitive paper, so I had to print to continue my work. After I printed, I had some words from my previous work left and I decided to apply it in order. I thought the structure was boring ,so I added the thread, very randomly. I wanted my design to be precise not abstract, but unfortunately it did not go as planned.Â

Close ups.Â

Egon Schiele painting techniqueÂ
In my previous stage, in the life drawing session, we studied Egon Schiele technique of drawing and painting, I found it very interesting as how he painted, it is really attractive and different than other artists. In this sample I am attempting his technique, same way of applying the brushstrokes, heavy and thick, and in the same direction. I chose to paint on the aged paper I made with the tea, because at the moment I feel white paper are boring, I am happy that I decided to do it in this way, even on my previous painting.Â

On my last step, I added some thick lines, to give shape to the buildings, in this case charcoal was the best option.Â

Burn Effect
Before I try my ideas on my main design, I try on a spare paper before. I printed this out couple days ago and I thought to burn since I didn't need it, after I did, I liked how it looked, and this is where the idea of burning page came from. However I like more this burn effect than my original sample. I feel this have more aggressive look.Â

Burn Pages
Here is another examples of text, where I try to expose what’s underneath all this situation in Venice. I preferred to burn parts of the page so it can be looking more natural and authentic, instead of tearing the paper. At the beginning I wasn't convinced with this sample, but when I started to arranged the text page and composed nicely, I started to like it. At the start the look was artificial, but my aim is always to stand out the natural look. At one point I though I made so many burn spots, so I included images and rearranged the text in different direction to removed the attention of the viewer from the burned spots.Â

The text is in Italian “Andra tutto bene” which means All will be fine. this sample is different than others samples, because it spreads positivity, I might not have chose suitable images or describe it in the best way, but I kept in my mind the idea to start spreading energetic messages,Â

Ideas for my next step
I have collected enough different media and technique samples and I came across several ideas for my actual design. After all this process, I want to design a poster or a leaflet that spread positive energy in Venice for the people are thinking to give up. I feel at that moment it is really important to comfort people who are having a hard time and I feel this the only way I can portray it. I have to go through many section to get a perfect poster/leaflet, I should more focus on typography part, because a design without typography is boring and get more in modern graphical art.

Text Sample
After experimenting with different materials, I wanted to experiment with text as well. I am very fond of typography and I like to express myself through arranging different types. I don’t want to jump to conclusion, I would like to try different kind of typography, to see what is suitable for my design. In this sample I represents two circles with text on it, this text is a poetry describing the situation of COVID-19. I thought to add some geometric shape to have some changing, and I feel the circles are giving a different meaning than a rectangle or square shape image.Â

As you can see in the picture, I made the text paper thicker by adding more layers of paper, this was done to give a depth to the design. to make it more look like the design has a three dimensional effect, and the text is realistic

Photos Collage
I found many other photos of my family in Venice, the fact that they were before I was born it makes it more special. These are photos of my father, and in the first photo he is standing in front of the bridge and in the second photo, behind him he has the view of San Giorgio Maggiore. I picked the the view of San Giorgio Maggiore to study in my previous work and when I looked at this photo, I felt very fortunate. In the next page i made the comparison of Venice Renaissance with Venice in 1998. I compared the same location and place and I add text saying constantly “Everything will be fine” or “Everything will be alright”.
The black paint and the black and white image photos are to create a very dramatic effect, is to surprise the viewer and make them understand the concept behind this collage.Â

“The city of Love” Collage
I found a very old photo of my parents in Venice in 1998, a year before I was born. I thought this could be a strong part of my work, because this photo is located in front of Saint Mark’s Basilica. I didn’t want to tear up or destroy, because I found it beautiful like this. I even add text on the corner of the photo, where I talk about the beauty of Venice and how it made us to be together and happy. I didn’t add much on this collage, because i don’t want to distract the viewer attention from the main photo.
