Story Time

My time working in a plus-size retail store.

For three months I worked at a Yours Clothing store. I’ve shopped with the company before so I knew that I wanted to work for them at some point especially when everyone there was so kind and that did not change when I saw the behind-the-scenes of the store. The patience my colleagues had with me as I learned the store's ins and outs and this was my first experience with working. Learning how to hang the clothes correctly, how fast clothing changes as the seasons change or which products are selling better online than in-store. Helping customers find which clothes they need or want to try out. To learn how delivery works in the store. 

As the days turned to weeks I started to feel more confident and comfortable being in the store but also within myself, I started to feel less ashamed and anxious about being plus-sized and my colleagues being different sizes really helped me to feel like I was not alone in being plus-sized but also that I am worthy of feeling beautiful in my own body. 

It was heartbreaking for me when I had to leave, and it has taken me a while to get that confidence and courage back to try again because I was happily working there. I was lucky enough not to have many complicated tasks or customers. My first experience was a good experience, and I’m thankful it was. I know not all experiences are going to be like that but I’m happy that my first work experience was good.

To all the beauties of the world that are scared to wear certain outfits this Halloween because of how your body looks. Please wear the outfit show off that body, you can wear whatever you want. You are not defined by the size of your body. So if your stomach isn’t flat and you have rolls and stretch marks etc you are beautiful!!

Beautiful bodies that should not be hidden away, love your body and wear whatever you want.
