can i just say. and this is obviously my bias at play here but. rick and michonne's absence was sorely felt when they left the walking dead but by contrast the only characters from the mothership i want to see on the ones who live are their children lmao

saying michonne and rick "had it way too easy" might be the dumbest thing i've ever read.
rick lost his hand in one of the many times he tried to escape from the place that imprisoned, manipulated, and psychologically abused him for 7+ years, to the point of him not being able to remember his son's and his wife's face. he was so miserable he even tried to take off his own life.
michonne couldn't even mourn his "death", because she still had to take care of their two young children and lead an entire community on her own. not to mention all the enemies she had to face along the way.
judith was two years old the last time she saw her father and rj didn't even know him until he was eight years old. rick didn't get to see his son being born and both his kids growing up. he couldn't be there to love and protect them.
so, if all i just said they went through is "way too easy" for you, you really have no idea what you're talking about.

if you think love has made rick grimes weak, you don't know anything about his character. from the very beginning, love was what really motivated him.
after the coma, it was because of his love for carl that rick didn't give up. he learned to deal with the changes in the world just to be able to find his family.
and then, everything he did, all the fights he went through, was also motivated by love. rick lives for michonne, judith, rj and for carl's memory. he's strong, fearless, and unstoppable because he fights for a better world for his family.
towl literally showed us a "no feelings" version of rick, a version that couldn't escape the crm, but as soon as he remembered the people he loves, he was able to get out of there.
so, please do not speak on rick grimes if you don't know him well enough, because you're just gonna sound dumb.

i feel like i haven’t even processed the reunion yet but i need to talk about it because it was just so real and so beautiful in so many ways.
judith and rick hadn't seen each other since she was two years old and rj had never seen him before, so it wouldn't make sense if they had an exaggerated reaction during the reunion.
watching rick get completely anxious when the helicopter was about to land and during michonne's moment with the kids made me want to cry. he was clearly very nervous and insecure, not knowing how to act, and then judith hugged him and you could feel his emotion at finally being with his little girl.
and then came the long-awaited meeting between rick and rj, and even with all the nervousness on both sides, they had that beautiful dialog that, once again, had me in tears. the brave man and his little brave man are finally together.
the scene was just perfect, better than we could ever have imagined, and i honestly might fight anyone who insists on saying otherwise.

one small and so DEVASTATINGLY beautiful detail they put into Rick's headspaces is that, at the CRM he almost always slept with his prosthetic (like a gun under a pillow) but whenever he's with Michonne, he sleeps without it!
Guys! Just like how Michonne says she's only safe with him, Rick is shown to feel safe with her too!
FINALLY, BOTH FEEL SAFE!

Also, can we just really take in the true excellence and impact of Michonne’s character.
She’s a black woman whose story isn’t defined by the hardship of being a black woman.
She’s given incredible emotional range. She’s absolutely badass and strong, but not stoic and stiff. She’s allowed to be as compassionate and nurturing as she is fierce. She expresses grief, loss, anger, pettiness and annoyance; she also expresses hope, love, devotion, loyalty, and bravery. She’s tough and hardcore, but also soft and feminine.
She’s not the sassy best friend. She’s not the magical negro. She’s not the stepping stone for the male MC to decide he doesn’t want. She’s not forgettable or disposable. She can challenge white characters (including the main man) without the writing trying to humble or punish her.
She’s pivotal (the ratings and fan engagement prove that). She’s desirable. She isn’t chasing after a man who barely considers her to own detriment. Her love interest loves her unconditionally. He respects her and wants her in EVERY way. He dreams of her. He can’t truly live without her.
THIS is an immaculate character, brought to life by an incredible actress who is valued in production, and backed by the narrative. THIS is what characters such as Bonnie Bennett and Abbie Mills (amongst others) deserved. THIS is what we want to see.
