I've caught a summer flu, so obviously I've been playing sims 2 for the past couple of days and that led to yet another neighborhood project: Miami/Vice city inspired neighborhood called Siami Beach.

It is currently an empty mainhood with minimal CC. I finally got all the beaches nice and 90% beach lot ready after many battles and switching back and forth between Simcity 4 and sims 2.

Haven't had time to play sims 2 for a while now because of assignments and work, but I've been reading (or listening via microsoft edge's ai read aloud feature) some fan fictions to keep my addiction fed. Thought I'd drop links to them if anyone is interested.

The problem with coming back to Sims 2 after a hiatus is sometimes I think “I know there were a few defaults I wanted to update, let me take a look real quick” and then suddenly three hours have passed

I'm in love yall. The highlights being overexposed in Sims 2 has always got under my skin so when I saw across this post I dropped everything to give it a try to see if dreams really do come true.

and in this case they do.

Extended SimStandardMaterial Shader for the Sims 2 + Optionally Brighter Sims vs without (i.e. naked, the way EA made it A HOT FUCKING MESS). Also no reshade

USEFUL SOFTWARE FOR THE SIMS 2

This is a list of programs that will make your life easier if you're an avid Sims 2 player. Click on program titles to get download links.

SimPE The most known software for The Sims 2 that lets you edit package files. You can do basic stuff like rename a Sim, change family name, edit Sims' genetics as well as edit/create mods. Don't use if you have no idea what you're doing, watch a tutorial first or back up your neighborhood beforehand in case you mess something up! The newest version also has a terrain editor.

Sims2Pack Clean Installer The best program for installing downloaded lots and Sims. Those don't just go into Downloads, you need to install them!

Hood Checker This program checks neighborhood references and can clean out ones that are broken. Also useful for bringing back lost graves (it's still good to have NoUnlinkOnDelete).

HCDU Plus The Hack Conflict Detector Utility lets you scan your Downloads folder to check if you have any mods that edit the same aspect of the game, so can potentially be in conflict. Also useful to navigate which mods load first (load order is important for some mods to work).

What Caused This When you have 'testingcheats' on, the game gives you error messages if there's something going on. Not all of them mean there's a serious problem, but What Caused This can help you navigate what the source is. Upload the log file (Documents/EA/TS2/Logs) in the program, give it your Downloads folder and it will scan it to look for the culprit. Might give you straighforward information on which mod conflict caused the issue or that you lack Smarter EP Check for a mod that requires it.

Outfit Organiser You downloaded CC clothes that the creator marked as outerwear but you think they don't fit in that category? With this program you can quickly change that! It's also doable in SimPE, but Outfit Organiser is a lot easier to use.

CPack Editor If you want to make plastic surgery genetic, there's no need to do it manually in SimPE, especially if it's more than one Sim. In CPack Editor, you just choose your neighborhood's folder, run the program, and it changes ALL surgery faces in that neighborhood to genetic!

Lot Adjuster This program lets you edit already existing lots. If you want a smaller or bigger lot than possible in-game, you can do it here! Also great for creating pavilions or row houses that are all separate lots, as you can get rid of the 2-tile border separating buildings by making the lots smaller and copying them.

Hair tinsel tutorial

Since so many people loved the tinseled hair idea, I wanted to show how you can easily do these recolors yourself. This tutorial is for those who already worked with SimPE and and create hair retextures before.

You need:

@crispsandkerosene SimStandardMaterial shader to add a mask for the shine

SimPE

Bodyshop

Graphics editor (I use Photoshop 2025 and attach PSD with my recolor as an example)

Let's get to work:

1. Create a recolor of hair with the desired color an usual way in Bodyshop and close it

2. Export the recolor texture with SimPE

3. Open it in a graphics editor

4. Create a group above and add a clipping mask to it in the shape of the hair texture alpha channel

5. In this group, create an empty layer and paint the hair tinsel texture on it to your taste I used the standard Hard Round brush with these settings:

6. Save the resulting texture with transparency (.png, .dds, etc...)

7. Now inside the group create a white layer and add a clipping mask to it with the alpha of the tinsel texture

I prefer to made it a bit crunchy with "Select and Mask" function, I think the shine looks more realistic this way

8. Outside the group create a black layer

9. Leave only the white layer inside the mask and the black layer visible and save this texture, it will be a shine mask

10. Now open the recolor file in simpe and replace the hair texture with a new one with tinsel

11. Clone the texture file to create a shine (EnvCube) mask

12. Give it a new name and press "fix TGI"

13. Replace the texture with the black-n-white one you made earlier

14. Change the texture format to ExtRaw8bit

15. Commit

16. Go to the TXMT resource, make sure that in the cMaterialDefinition tab the Type set to SimStandardMaterial

17. Then add EnvCube properties, more about it here in part 2

stdMatEnvCubeMaskTextureEnabled must have value: 1 stdMatEnvCubeMaskTextureName must have value of the BW mask name without "_txtr" part

I use these values, but you can change it on your taste:

18. Commit your changes and save file

19. Now check your recolor in game and if everything was done correctly enjoy the result ✨

hello everyone! :) this is my sim, lenora (lennie) wright, and her cat. i usually play ts4 on my main blog (@bakedpecans) but i was an og fan of the sims 2 and when it got rereleased i had to start a simblr! i don't know of many sims 2 simblrs so please feel free to reblog so i can follow you all!

a little bit about lennie:

she is going to be opening her own florist shop

she's had her cat since she was in high school (6 ish years)

I have no followers so this will get lost in the Ether, BUT….

Can we talk about how amazing it is that people all over the world still adore, and put so much love into TS2? That a game as old as TS2 brings so many creators together, so many people together regardless of the physical space between all of us?

I know it’s been difficult, especially recently in TS2 Community with EA rereleasing it, but I wanted to shed some positivity in what seems to be a very negative time.

Sometimes box links just don't work for me, anyone else have this problem?? I just downloaded something else from box, but the link for Ja's silly grenade top hat just doesn't work for me, i've been trying for many days, with clearing caches or trying different browser doesn't help either. Weird.

On that note, does anyone have a solution or this hat?? :) I need it for my Mortimer Goth.

I'm debating making it an option for certain types of sims who don't go to university to instead have a funded 'gap year darling'. Where they go to one of the vacation destinations for 5 days to learn and experience different cultural things, to make up for all the useful stuff young adults learn and experience during their university days. It's good as they don't age during vacations, so depending on how I decide to go about it I can get them to be the right age rather than end up older than their university-graduate counterparts.

There's also the idea of sending them to 'trade school' I've seen mentioned places a few times. So perhaps another option for those less academically inclined, moving them into a special residental lot either the last day of teenhood or first day of adulthood and turning aging off while there. Have a bunch of hobby & badge items, those podiums where people can come give talks etc.

(Look at me pretending I actually play my game often enough to worry about this).

edit: ah here's the thread where I saw about trade school! And a lot made by @kashmiresims inspired by the thread. Has anyone else played this way?
