even the way naruto and sasuke face their feelings is contrasting in a complementary way. naruto is repressed, he isn’t afraid of his feelings for sasuke but he is of what people might think of it, of being hated again, he struggles with internalised homophobia and does that unconsciously, that’s why it fits in the repression definition. sasuke only suppresses his feelings, consciously, he doesn’t care what people think of him, of his gayness, but he is afraid of feeling it deeply, is afraid of naruto being aware of it because it gives naruto power over him
