Wounded from a long battle, Mairon took the shape of a bat and flew over the lands but the loss of blood had weakened him and continued to do so. It was not long when he saw what seemed to be an abandoned castle, there were no lights inside, as evening was soon to fall and the sun was getting low, so he decided to rest, at least for a little while. Maybe he could find something to eat, even a rat would do wonders at that point.
He wasted no more time and entered one of the towers through an open window and it took all his strength to shape himself into his usual form. And it took him longer than usual as the darkness condensed and rippled, forming the shape of a body out of which a fire shimmered in the core of it and Mairon's eyes, the colour of fire opened in the darkness as his body slowly became solid.
He fell to his knees with a gasp, the wound around his neck still dripping on the floor between his hands and shifted, groaning softly with main and weariness as he slumped against the wall, his eyes were slowly starting to close.
Dracula spent most of the evenings waiting for the moment the sun would disappear for the night. His room was located deep in the castle, far away from any windows or mirrors that would reflect light. There was that familiar hunger clawing its way up his throat since he had opened his eyes, begging for blood that would satisfy him.
Once the sun slipped behind the clouds for the rest of the night, the vampire made his way to the living quarters of the castle. It wasn’t until he got there that he smelt it. Blood. Not human blood, but something sweeter. It carried his feet to where the scent lay, spotting the body on the floor. “I can see that you’re hurt, my dear.”
He was quickly on his knees beside the other, long fingernails brushing the person’s hair back so that he could witness the wound. He was never one to end someone’s life that sought help or appeared innocent. He did as a newblood, but now? Now he would only kill if necessary. It was too much effort and he didn’t exactly have the staff anymore to help him out.
“I can help you, if you let me?” He breathed out gently, his eyes red with hunger but not completely black that he was ravenous.

“I would think it would be. Education for us were books and people who believed they could sense the future or see into people’s minds.” He pointed out with a subtle shrug. He knew that nowadays there were things such as the internet and television, and Maya seemed to prove it more by talking about it. “I would say you’re clever. Most people would run from a predator or freeze, but you’ve done nothing that would make you act as my prey.”
Looking down at what he assumed to be new technology, he watched as the picture on the screen moved and had audio to go along with it. “I see. Perhaps cats are smarter than I thought them to be. Dogs will trust most people, they can be naive, but cats? Cats have always been cautious of me since I became like this.”
Frowning briefly at that comment, Dracula moved to rest a cold hand against Maya’s arm. “I understand what it’s like to have a parent who doesn’t love like most parents do. Being born into royalty isn’t what everyone thinks it is.”
It seemed like there was a small amount in judgement in her statement which had the vampire growing eversoslightly worried that maybe he had given away too much. He didn’t even know why he had spoken about his past so easily to her, but she had been the first human to visit him without running off scared or acting like he was evil. He was just another creature trying to make sense of the life he had been given. If that made him a monster, then so be it.
“Well you’re obviously a lot smarter than I ever was. Congratulations.” He muttered with a sarcastic tone to his voice.
“A cat? Can they even be loveable creatures?” Pets were never a thing for him. Sure there had been plenty of strays that had wandered to his castle, but he had given them scraps and then they had ran off. They obviously sensed that he wasn’t someone to trust. “Your mother didn’t make the right choices, hm?”

“For now? Interesting.” There was no way that she could ever prove him wrong, but he liked the challenge. This was some of the most fun he had had in a very long time. Most people would come to the castle and give in to him, or would run before he got the chance to taste them. No one had ever stayed this long to chat. Not since Jonathan and even then he had been held against his will.
“Apologies don’t bring back the dead unfortunately, but thank you. I appreciate your sympathy.” He offered a brief smile. “I didn’t quite understand the consequence of darker magic, but then again I don’t think most people would.” The being who had created him had vanished quickly, so there was never any time to ask questions.
“Do you have a love in your life? Or have you ever had one?”

Hisses. From Blaise
“That’s a very charming way to introduce yourself.” Dracula looked amused, his lips curved up into a smirk as he took in the other male’s appearance. There was something familiar about his scent, or lack of, that had the vampire interested.
“What’s your name, dear?” A dark eyebrow raised as he crossed his arms over his chest, eyes tinged red but not dark with it. He had fed recently. A good thing for them both.

“You would be right, but I’m also a gentleman and a gentleman would never cheat at a game, especially if I already have an advantage.” He pointed out. He had lived in this castle for centuries now. He knew every nook and cranny, so it would be entirely unfair if he cheated.
“If you don’t mind me saying, people who enjoy darker things tend to have experienced something dark in their own life. For example, I was forced to watch as my first love was slaughtered in front of me. I did everything I could to find a way to bring her back to me and instead I found a being who gave me this.” He motioned to his fangs and long nails. He had hated it at first. The first month or two for a newborn was something he wouldn’t wish upon anyone, which was why he found it humorous that people believed he had wanted to build an army of vampires decades ago.

“You think I would cheat? Do I come across as that sort of man?” He asked curiously, tapping a sharpened nail against his chin. Sure he had cheated at death and had now been a vampire longer than he had ever lived as a human, but that was different. That wasn’t a game.
“That’s very interesting, Maya. People also don’t want to believe in the darker things that this world holds, or the darker things that their ‘God’ has created.” Most religions would believe him to be a creation of Lucifer. Anything that went against their beliefs was a sign that Satan was upon them. “All animals are intelligent. Pigs are incredibly intelligent but people will still enjoy a piece of ham or bacon.”
“I have lived a very long time. I know what people can be like when they’re surrounded by gold and diamonds. Does that make me a bad person that I wouldn’t want them to steal from me?” There were certain things in his castle that were precious to him. Things that would guarantee that he had had a life before the vampire.

Dracula listened to her talk, but none of it really made any sense to him. The castle didn’t have electricity so there was no need for him to learn how to play video games or have a television. He had witnessed them before, had seen how they worked but he didn’t understand the need or human urge to sit in front of them all day. “Hm, I think I’d rather just play chess. Sometimes I like playin’ hide’n’seek with my guests.” He teased.
“Journalist have came to try and interview me, but I don’t think they realise the danger they put themselves in. I was always told as a little kid to never approach or talk to a stranger, but it seems that that’s changed over the last century or so.” He shrugged. “People will emphasise to get their story sold. Most people believe I’m a monster just because I have to feed off people. Why is that any different to humans eating animals? Is it because some people believe that animals don’t have feelings so their lives don’t matter? I feed because I have to, not because I want to.”
He watched her look out the window, before moving over to a chair to sit down. “No. I wouldn’t trust them to not steal or enter places that are my private spaces, y’know?”

“Games I do know. Chess, Backgammon, those sorts of things.” Dracula had never truly played them apart from Chess. It was a game of patience and skill, something that living for centuries had made him good at. “So they take away the experience of using your own hands and mind to play? How would you play it on a television?”
The vampire couldn’t help but to scoff at the mention of movies that were made about him. “Yes, they sometimes like to call them biographical movies, but there are plenty of lies in them. Most movie makers want to use this castle as their location, but I wouldn’t want my private home to be blasted all over people’s televisions.” The castle to him was his safe place and it was frustrating to him that people would think it okay to barge their way in with movie cameras and lights. What Maya spoke about was different and when she mentioned it was for charity he couldn’t help the small twang of guilt that crept its way up his throat.
“The locals are aware of my condition. Most of their families have lived here just as long as I have, so there is a sworn agreement between us that I will never harm them and they will never harm me.”

“The locals are aware of my condition. Most of their families have lived here just as long as I have, so there is a sworn agreement between us that I will never harm them and they will never harm me.”
Dracula had been so used to the same reaction for centuries now. Sometimes he wondered if anyone would ever not be scared of his true self, or if he would forever be sought out as a monster. It was curious to him that she reacted the way she did though, having had a slight hope that she would either run and give chase or that she wouldn’t be alarmed by the fangs.
She, however, was human and it was a giving that something as intense as his vampiric features would scare her. He could hear her heart beating in her chest, almost like a siren song to him despite the fact that he had only recently fed. He imagined it was how addicts would feel. Desperate for the only thing that would make him feel more human.
“Video games? Now it sounds like you’re speaking another language, my dear.” His eyes slowly turned back to their brownish black colour, fangs softening until his canine teeth were eversoslightly sharper.
