Refrection on Hamlet on the Holodeck, Introduction

As Murray says, I might still see a computer as a threat rather than an ally. I am confused about how to approach it without my native language. But I recognize the meaning of McLuhan's comment - All media as extensions of ourselves serve to provide new vision and awareness. Last week I watched the movie, A love song for Latisha. It was nominated as a short documentary of Academy Awards. It consists of real video image and abstract expression by animation. The animation effectively expresses feeling of despair or sadness. New media serves to provide new vision and awareness. I think the category of documentary is getting changed.

This article reminds me of Lev Manovich. (1960-) He had learned programing and calculation in a high school in Moscow for two years. However, he had never seen computer. His teacher had just written those concept down on the blackboard. Finally, he got a chance to input his data into a computer. However, it didn't work. He had never seen the keyboard. When he had to input zero, he put o as he always did. It's like learning the piano with sheet music even though he didn't have a piano. On the other hand, I have a piano (=laptop), but I cannot understand the score. I need more time to learn it, but I want to use it as a tool to connect with this world deeply.
