Some thoughts and details on my last Gamefly rental, Metroid Prime Remastered.
Tumblr media
Three years after Metroid 1/Zero Mission, Samus picks up a distress signal from a space station in orbit above the planet Tallon IV, and finding it belongs to the Space Pirates. Investigating, Samus finds it heavily damaged, as well as discovering more of their research on Metroids and something called Phazon from the nearby planet.
After defeating the boss here, the Parasite Queen, it falls into the reactor, Samus needing to escape quickly as the station starts exploding. While escaping, Samus gets hit hard by an explosion, causing her to lose most of her suit's abilities. Also on the way, she finds that Ridley has been revived and mechanized, who then flies down to Tallon IV, Samus following after once she gets to her ship.
I played this when I was younger, but since the game is in first person, the Metroids latching onto Samus felt like Alien's facehuggers and scared me off back then. ^^;
Default controls(of a couple control schemes):
Move with Left Control Stick.
Aim with Right Control Stick.
A/ZR to shoot currently selected weapon, hold to charge. While charging, any items nearby will be sucked in towards you.
Directions on the D-Pad to change the currently equipped Visor option(once obtained).
ZL to lock on.
Hold X + directions on the D-Pad to change Samus' weapon(once acquired).
B/L to jump. Pressing B/L twice while moving Left/Right while locked on will have you Strafe.
R to fire missiles. Pressing R when a weapon is fully charged will fire a stronger attack, i.e. the Super Missiles for the Charge Beam(once acquired).
Y to go into Morph Ball Mode.
+ for the map and - for the Logbook
As in other games, Samus either doesn't keep or loses powers and abilities at the start and needs to seek them out again during the game. Many of these are after bosses or certain sections and easier to find, but most, such as Missile and Energy Tanks, will require backtracking later on with more upgrades. I think these do make a sound when nearby, but there's no map indicator like in some later Metroidvanias that show a room still has something to find, so you may need a guide for 100%(which I didn't go for).
Using the Scan Visor, aside from activating certain machines and the like, you can scan various things, such as flora, fauna, enemies, item picks-ups, etc., to get an entry on it recorded. Some, like bosses, only appear once, of course, so make sure to get them ASAP if you want to.
I like the HUD this game/series has. The view is from inside Samus' helmet unless in Morph Ball mode, which shows displays for her health, missiles, what's currently equipped, etc. Certain enemies/attacks will also screw up her view for a bit.
The maps are fairly large and really nice looking, especially now after being remastered.
I might just be spoiled from later Metroidvania's but I wish there was more fast travel options, since Tallon IV is pretty large, and only some parts have any real shortcuts between areas. ^^;
Though as I mentioned before, the maps don't have an indicator for rooms that may still have something hidden there, there is a hint system, which can be turned off, that will give you an indicator for where to go next for the story if you haven't found it yet after a little while, and the area will be marked with a ? on the map(though they won't tell you exactly where to find the 12 Chozo Artifacts you need to finish the game later; you'll only get the hints from Scanning the monoliths for them above the Impact Crater).
I played the game mostly in Handheld Mode and it ran very well. I think there was a small hiccup back on the Gamecube version when riding an elevator, but it never happened here.
Hopefully, the next two Metroid Prime games get a Remastered version, as well.
Next game being sent is: Valthrian Arc: Hero School Story.

Visual novel games, as the name implies, aim to immerse players in captivating narratives and evoke emotional connections with the characters. The gameplay mechanics are intentionally simple, often requiring just a touch of a button to progress, making it accessible and enjoyable even for novice gamers. Set in the vibrant city of Kabukicho, surrounded by the expanding dilapidated slum of Shinjuku Kowloon, this city is home to the poor, outcasts, and those exiled from society. Shinjuku Kowloon has grown by consuming the lives and desires of various individuals. “Torao Hiira,” a man who buries lives in this town, What is the reason behind so absurd his behavior?
