RuneScape is Getting its Own Tabletop Games
The browser-based RPG that was once available has seen many alternative versions for its huge player base, with Old School RuneScape offering players with the classic experience of 2006 and the short-lived DarkScape providing players with an experience that is more PvP-based. extrememining Developer Jagex has joined forces with Steamforged Games, a board game developer, to release two tabletop games in 2022.
The latest collaboration between Steamforged Games and Jagex is the latest in a series of collaborations that bring the most popular gaming franchises into a tabletop setting. The tabletop gaming juggernaut has previously developed board games inspired by series like Monster Hunter World and Dark Souls and has recently concluded an extremely successful Kickstarter campaign for the Resident Evil 2 board game that raised over 1 million GBP earlier this year. The developer is currently focused on RuneScape and Gielinor. The company plans to launch both an essential book for tabletop RPGs and a board game.

These RPGs will feature RuneScape's most beloved characters and locations. This allows up five players to embark on the classic RuneScape quests and bring the adventures of Gielinor home. Players will be able to craft and upgrade their equipment, communicate with NPCs and play side quests that are inspired by the classic MMORPG. The Kickstarter campaign for the board game will begin later in the year, while the core tabletop RPG books will be available directly.
The core book for tabletop RPGs is notably compatible with tabletop RPGs of massive size Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition core books, allowing dungeonmasters to seamlessly incorporate elements of RuneScape into their campaigns. Jagex CEO Phil Mansell expressed optimism about the project, expressing his delight about the Kickstarter project "involving RuneScape communities," while Steamforged CO Mat Hart believed that the "rich RuneScape universe" would work beautifully in the tabletop setting.
RuneScape has grown significantly from its browser-based origins in recent years Steamforged's boardgame the latest effort by Jagex. In an interview with Game Rant last July, multiple Jagex employees discussed the possibility of transitioning Runescape's mobile game into an all-platform release. Then, last September, Jagex partnered with the creator of the wildly popular Old School RuneScape mod RuneLite HD to bring the HD version accessible to all players. The upcoming board game Steamforged will give RuneScape's avid players a new way to experience the world of Gielinor and let them to make their own adventures.
