yes,  mostly  because  lucille  herself  is  exceptionally  soft  around  animals    …    with  a  particular  fondness  for  dogs.  she  volunteered  as  an  available  foster  carer  at  a  local  animal  shelter  before  the  outbreak  and  ended  up  adopting  at  least  four  on  a  more  permanent  basis.  she  swears  she  consulted  negan  on  at  least  one  of  those.  otherwise,  she  opened  their  door  as  temporary  home  to  animals  requiring  rehabilitation  while  searching  for  their  forever  families.  i  think  there's  something  in  animals  that  sense  she's  a  natural  caretaker  and  she,  in  turn,  finds  comfort  in  them.

when  she  was  fourteen,  lucille  crashed  her  dad's  car  through  a  restaurant  window  after  seeing  him  having  dinner  with  the  school  nurse    …    while  still  married  to  her  mom.      a  week  later,  he'd  moved  out,    she  gained  a  mark  on  her  record  that  almost  prevented  her  finding  an  internship  later  in  life,    and  the  few  friends  she  had  were  no  longer  allowed  to  speak  to  her,  because  the  girl  from  'the  wrong  side  of  the  tracks'  proved  their  judgemental  parents  right  that  night;    she  was  trouble.

That nonsexual intimacy of just being in each other's spaces, of gravitating towards each other, always subconsciously reaching out to each other. Finding comfort and satisfaction in being close to each other, breathing each other in, existing together.

she  gave  him  a  fake  number  when  he  first  asked.      lucille  met  negan  while  she  was  just  starting  to  build  her  career.  she'd  worked  hard  to  be  taken  seriously  in  scrubs  and  a  man  with  a  smile  like  his  could  only  ever  be  an  unnecessary  distraction.      however,  fate  said  otherwise  a  few  months  later  when  negan  and  a  group  of  friends  end  up  in  her  strip  club  on  her  last  night  working  there.      he  stays  until  closing  and  when  he  tells  her  he  knows  a  24-hour  diner  that  serves  breakfast  at  3am;  she  accepts.

"i  don't  have  the  energy  to  hate  anyone  anymore."      maybe  she  never  did    [...]    lucille  has  always  taken  pride  in  being  a  patient  woman.  reasonable  unless  pushed  to  the  edge;    hot  temper  only  flaring  when  someone  is  foolish  enough  to  give  her  a  reason.      "even  if  i  did..    the  world  we  live  in  now  has  given  us  more  than  enough  enemies."      they  seem  to  surround  them  everywhere.  the  dead  walk  hungry  and  the  humans  that  remain  kill  to  prevent  themselves  from  joining.      "i  see  no  good  reason  for  us  to  be  fighting  against  each  other  as  well."      lucille  offers  @vyrulent  a  faint,  hopefully-reassuring  smile. 

the  truth  is      —      she  thinks  she  understands  the  other  and  in  a  sea  of  saviors  quick  to  turn  their  loyalty  to  whoever  held  the  biggest  gun,  it's  becoming  clear  the  two  women  may  have  nothing  left  except  the  strange  bond      (    affection  for  the  same  charismatic  man    )      that  binds  them  together.      "i  can't  hate  you  for  loving  him.  he's  easy  to  love."      and  she  wasn't  there.  blame  sits  HEAVY  on  her  shoulders  for  letting  beloved  husband  believe  her  demise.  it  seemed  kinder  back  then.  lucille  realises  now  it's  led  to  a  devastation  beyond  her  comprehension  and  other  people  suffered  for  it  in  her  name.      "you  fight  to  find  your  family,  lisa.  if  anything,  i  admire  you.  if  i  had  shown  even  half  that  strength  in  staying  with  mine..  "      well,  maybe  they'd  be  having  a  completely  different  conversation.
