'it  wasn't  planned,  y'know.    it  just  sort  of..    happened.'      the  words  briefly  remind  her  of  another  conversation  long  ago.  one  shared  between  husband  and  wife  as  the  world  around  them  crumbled.      'you  knew  about  janine?    …    it's  just,  y'know,  i  broke  it  up  with  her  as  soon  as..'      this  isn't  like  that  though.  lisa  isn't  a  wolf  posing  in  sheep's  clothing  and  negan  hasn't  betrayed  her.  two  people  can't  intentionally  hurt  someone  they  believed  already  gone.  all  she  can  do  is  nod  in  understanding.      "that  i  believe.  i  never  meant  to  love  him  either."      lucille  had  been  at  the  beginning  of  her  career  when  she  first  met  negan,    still  dancing  to  get  through.  she  was  busy  and  he  was  loud.  everything  about  his  smile  warned  the  ambition  itching  at  her  to  not  allow  any  distractions,  but  a  man  as  charming  as  him?  impossible  to  forget.      "he  knows  all  the  right  words."

brows  briefly  draw  together  at  the  mention  of  an  army  and  she  shifts;    sits  up  a  little  straighter  in  an  attempt  to  ease  out  the  discomfort  in  shoulders.  lu  doesn't  know  what  to  make  of  everything  negan  built  or  the  unspeakably  violent  acts  committed  in  her  name  to  secure  it.  thank  fuck  lisa  quickly  distracts  her.      "it'll  probably  be  both."      words  escape  through  a  light  laugh  that  is  at  least  genuine.  lucille  hasn't  spoken  to  the  others  like  this.  most  saviors  look  at  her  as  though  she's  something  to  fear  or  resent.  they  avoid  her,    because  better  that  than  risk  upsetting  the  boss'..    whatever  the  damn  hell  she  is  now.      "will  you  tell  me  about  them?"      gaze  finds  lisa  and  she  hopes  it  isn't  too  invasive.      "your  kids."

finding her kids was why she had made every decision that led her to becoming a savior wife . she'd not taken on the role with thought of falling in love, but it had happened. there had been something genuinely enjoyable in conversation with him. it helped that they were close in age -- unlike the case with some of the other wives. somewhere along the way, between the conversations and sex, she'd truly come to love him.

"it wasn't planned, you know. it just sort of ... happened."

she and lucille were closer in age in comparison to the others. they had learned how to love him when the others merely did it for the dick or the cushy life that being a wife brought.

"i married him to find my kids. hell, i spent all that time on my own lookin', why wouldn't I take advantage of a man with an army to help find 'em?"

they still hadn't been found, but she would never, ever give up the hope that they were out there, that they were still alive.

"we should talk more. i'd like to get to know you better. it'll either be negan's wet dream or his worst nightmare."

yes,  mostly  because  lucille  herself  is  exceptionally  soft  around  animals    …    with  a  particular  fondness  for  dogs.  she  volunteered  as  an  available  foster  carer  at  a  local  animal  shelter  before  the  outbreak  and  ended  up  adopting  at  least  four  on  a  more  permanent  basis.  she  swears  she  consulted  negan  on  at  least  one  of  those.  otherwise,  she  opened  their  door  as  temporary  home  to  animals  requiring  rehabilitation  while  searching  for  their  forever  families.  i  think  there's  something  in  animals  that  sense  she's  a  natural  caretaker  and  she,  in  turn,  finds  comfort  in  them.

when  she  was  fourteen,  lucille  crashed  her  dad's  car  through  a  restaurant  window  after  seeing  him  having  dinner  with  the  school  nurse    …    while  still  married  to  her  mom.      a  week  later,  he'd  moved  out,    she  gained  a  mark  on  her  record  that  almost  prevented  her  finding  an  internship  later  in  life,    and  the  few  friends  she  had  were  no  longer  allowed  to  speak  to  her,  because  the  girl  from  'the  wrong  side  of  the  tracks'  proved  their  judgemental  parents  right  that  night;    she  was  trouble.
