There was a slow exhalation of breath as The Doctor of War glanced around. The sonic in his hand still hummed gently as it powered down “-it was simple engineering physics.. I overloaded their blasters and they blew themselves up. That’s what happens when you don’t listen in class,” lightning blue eyes moved back to Clara “-now then.. shall we look into getting you off this planet?”

That made her freeze. Right. Forgot about that. How could she have forgotten about that? That was a big thing. Another bash to the hearts, but not her hearts. She adverted her gaze, shifting slightly as she gave a small laugh.

She ran her hand through her hair, and turned, lazily moving back to the seat.

“There isn’t anyone. Gallifrey barely survived the Time War.” She fell in a lump into the seat, and looked up at him, giving a small nod. “It burned. When The Master found out about us. Although between you and me, I think he was digging for an excuse.”

This made both of his hearts skip a beat. “-no.. no you’re wrong,” he said, the hand clenching the brandy glass so hard it would likely shatter soon “-Gallifrey can NOT be gone.. it can’t be! All the work.. all the effort and planning and.. and sacrifices.. I.. we... I have made! Cannot be for no reason!” he was pacing more furiously now, and with a growl threw the glass against the nearest wall, watching it shatter “-after all I am doing.. you had ONE job.. and you couldn’t keep them safe AFTER the war?!”

There was a lingering pause, and then she jumped up, and stepped in front of him. “We weren’t the first Time Lord. We were the first victim of the Time Lords. And we were a child. Used, prodded, poked at- for the benefit of some woman who thought she deserved what we had.”

A breath.

“We don’t remember several lives. Met one of us, no idea where she fit into all of this. But-” There was a hesitation. “There was an organisation, something called the Division. One that involved itself with the affairs of others; back when Time Lords weren’t supposed to. We were part of it. It- was wiped from the Matrix, but there was a clue, left in there. Had it transmitted into m’brain. Images - of Island, on Earth. Still have a lot t’work out, honestly, all very confusing.”

“Breath,” his voice was stern, calm, a hand raised when she began to object to his use of words. “-getting angry now won’t do either of us very much good, will it? We’ll just be irritated and clueless as opposed to simply clueless,” he slowly walked the circumference of the library “-that tracks.. The Time Lords do love a shadow organization.. that and silly hats,” he paused “-why don’t you just go to the source. Someone.. the Lord President.. the Council.. the Celestial Intervention Agency... someone must have information even if the matrix has been wiped,”

Always.” She gave him a small look; because he had definitely done that. Being him. Knowing the truth. That the decision to destroy the Daleks and the Time Lords verses the rest of the universe… even that had another way.

Her gaze dropped, and she gave a shake of her head. “Nah. I like talkin’. Besides, I don’t think the TARDIS can handle much more of a paradox than what we’re already plannin’.” She gave herself a small moment, then tightened her grip around her hands, and shifted her head up, focusing on him.

“We’re not Gallifreyan. We’re not from Gallifrey. We’re from another place, and we were found just before the beginning of Time Lord civilisation and became the base genetic code for regeneration. Time Lords got the ability to regenerate - from us.” There was a brief pause, and she eyed him a little. “A woman named Tecteun found us as a child, took us back to Gallifrey, and when she realised we could regenerate, dedicated her life discovering how. The Master showed me- memories - buried deep in the Matrix. True, memories. The Timeless Child. That’s what, who we are. It’s just been hidden from us.”

As she spoke, the weary man listened. One nod. Two.. three. He wanted to call her a liar.. a fool. What sort of ridiculous nonsense was that? But.. why else would the TARDIS have brought him here? Brought her here? “-and how exactly did you find all of this out?” he asked as he gulped down the first glass of brandy and refilled his glass, before standing and starting to pace once more “-so.. we are the original time lord... a being whose genetic material was used to create the entire existence of gallifrey..” he shook his head, trying to process everything “-what don’t we have... what don’t we remember.. which is a foolish question.

“I need to be there. It’s a fixed point in time. I have to be there.. or everything falls apart,” he said, turning away from the plans and moving around the console to her “-I know how you feel. I won’t say you’re wrong... but my leaving the war could cause the entity of time and space to collapse..”

Exhausted. Almost undone. He pinched the bridge of his nose “-and.. it will be hell, no matter what I do.”

And he’d much prefer to spend his time with her but… time wasn’t fluid in the time war and some points were locked. And ONE locked point was coming up very soon and it required all his focus.
