catalina-wolfe:
“You can definitely come and check it out!” Cat smiled. “Whenever works best for you, just come on down. My name’s Catalina.”
Tumblr media
"Sawyer,” she greeted with a wide grin. For the first time, it seemed things were really looking up. “Oh, you are amazin’, thank ya so much. I’ll tell Isabella. Does tomorrow sound okay? My shift doesn’t start until the afternoon so the morning would be the best for us.”

pharcharlie:
Charlie helped the girl to her feet, her smile never once leaving her face during this act. After all, a knight in shining armor remained ever chivalrous. “Nah, dying? Not on my watch.” Charlie reassured, taking in her damsel for a moment. It didn’t take her long to realize the issue and knelt down, quickly lacing the shoes. “You’ve got to be more careful, you know. Sure, I was here to save you this time, but what about the next?” She asked. Charlie saw no reason not to be helpful so as to avoid future misshaps. Once she’d finished, the 23 year old climbed back to her feet, crossing her arms over her chest.
“An angel?” A smirk pulled at Charlie’s lips at the thought of her being anything of the like, but took the complement. “I was thinking more armour clad vigilante to your damsel in distress, but that works too.”
She finally took in the girl in front of her and was pleasantly surprised that she was one of the cutest things Charlie had laid eyes on, Picturesque were those blonde locks and those shy features. “If my type is cute blondes, then so far that’s one today.”
Her face was getting warmer by the second, especially as she watched the other go down to tie her shoes, an act she could have completed herself but surely didn’t want to now. In no way was Sawyer prepared for this conversation. It was clear that she was flirting with her but she had no idea how to flirt back. Sawyer had never been kissed or asked out on a date. People didn’t flirt with her, at least she didn’t think so. “I, uh… I-I--next time?” she stammered, holding her books closer her chest. “Maybe I’ll just… wear... boots.” Great job, Sawyer. You nailed it.
Tumblr media
The savior compared them to fantasy characters and she giggled again. Damn it, Sawyer, you were doin’ it again, she thought to herself. You were like this with the grocery bagger at the grocery store, the assistant librarian and even the the girl in the hallway that showed you where your class was. Stop bein’ all smitten. She’s a stranger.
Sawyer felt her eyes roam her up and down, starting to feel self-conscious. Then she called her cute and she let her body relax. “Hopefully another one doesn’t come by. I’d hate to not be special.” Okay, that was better. Maybe she can do it again. “Um and as for next time. I won’t wear boots. You can stick around so I never have to worry. But for now,” she checked the time again and groaned, “I hafta run. Like, literally. I hafta run all the way to the daycare to pick up my sister. I’ve been runnin’ late and I thank you so much for savin’ my life and I’d hate to cut this short, but...”

celeste-caron:
“I still don’t really consider myself a grown up.” The blonde replied, quite honestly. “I mean, sure, I’m 31, but most people my age are so preoccupied with being bogged down by responsibility, and kids and marriage and having expensive stuff in order to call themselves a ‘grown up’. I mean where is the joy in that? If that’s what being an adult is about, then I don’t even want to grow up.”
Tumblr media
She smiled warmly. She gathered that this probably wasn’t the answer the other girl was expecting, but it was a truthful one, from the perspective of someone who had ignored those who told her to ‘grow up’ and ‘get her head out of the clouds’ throughout most of her life. “Honestly…if I won the lottery, I wouldn’t invest it in stocks, or savings, or buy fancy cars or a big house or anything like that. I’d just want a tiny house, with lots of property where I could have lots of animals and a really big garden and I’d just use the rest of it to travel the world and help people. Ooh, and maybe I’d have a waterslide. That would be cool. What would you spend it on?” She turned to the other, her round blue eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Sawyer cast her eyes down to her tennis shoes at the other woman’s initial response, wishing she gave a more straightforward and exact answer. What she really needed were life events she could compare to, help her decide of adulthood was the stage she was in now or if she was kidding herself for even trying. Hell, she wanted to ride the youthful train as long as she could--it was why she took three years off of school. It’s why she lived at home all this time. It’s why she never stayed at a job for too long.
Tumblr media
Looking up she was met with a smile and Sawyer shakily attempted to mirror it. She asked for help and the other was providing it as best as she could. She couldn’t be picky. Not now. The next sentences helped lift the corners of her lips because before she moved to Portland it sounded all too familiar. “Oh that sounds wonderful! I think the most important thing to do in life is to help other people, especially those less fortunate you. I used to volunteer at homeless shelters and animal shelters all the time before I moved here. Where would you live? In a far away country or maybe in forest?” Sawyer was feeling better about the conversation; it reminded her of who she used to be.
“Oh wow, um, I would... I would have to say I’d use it to buy a house. One for me and my siblings to share. One with a big backyard and a basketball court so Dawson and I can play. I’d put some away for their college fund so they can go to the school of their dreams. I would... I’d send my mom to a better rehab facility. I would... I’d use some for my dream wedding if anyone ever wanted to marry me. And then I’d leave the rest to my brother and sister. It’d be theirs. I don’t need much anymore... It sounds really dumb and cliche, I know.”

declananderson:
“When I got released from a mental hospital”, Declan said. He very much thought that people were going to ask personal questions, they should be prepared to get deep and personal answers - and sometimes deep and personal was very, very ugly. Even when the situation was this odd, because ambushing random people with questions was definitely weird. “And I think it’s a lot more about how my parents treated me for it, than anything else”, he said. “I wouldn’t recommend. Why?”
Tumblr media
Oh, dear. The answer was very surprising and she took a step back in instinct, afraid that he wasn’t serious or speaking out of malice due to her interrupting whatever he’d been doing. Everyone had their story. Back home a lot of people tended to ignore the Craven family for their issues and what they’d been through. Sawyer took two steps closer to him instead. “How did they treat you?” she questioned curiously, too immersed in his answer to remember manners. “I just can’t help but to question my own status as an adult. Some people say that I am but I’m having such a hard time believin’em.”

frosty-dan:
Danny gave a nod, she did have a point. “But some brothers and sisters just go off on their own. I’ve seen it happen, unfortunately.” He said sadly. He had friends that were taken away by social services because their eldest sibling wouldn’t take custody of them. It was heartbreaking. Danny couldn’t imagine if his sister had pulled any of that shit with their youngest sister. “Sawyer. I like it. The Pleasure is mine, dear.” He nodded his head in return with a bright smile. “I don’t know– Portland has some pretty sweet people around.” He winked. “Oh, thanks. I’ll text you so you have my number too.” He said as he tok her number. “Pretty much. I have a job that forces me to be up close and personal with people so I get that way when I’m not working too” He laughed.
Very slowly she was realizing that maybe she could find a nice community in Portland, much like she had in Texas. It would be easier to adjust that way. With Danny’s number, at least she knew should wouldn’t feel so alone. “Don’t tell me you’re a dentist. Or a surgeon.” Which was a terrible guess because patients would not be able to converse with their doctor. “Or... I’m guessing ya might be masseuse. They get really up close sometimes.”
Tumblr media
“I work where not a lot of customers want to talk to me and they also don’t tip very well which is surprising since y’all don’t have tax here.”

“It’s fine.” Dani said with a small sigh and a shrug. “Well it’s not fine…but it’s okay that you asked..you didn’t know” She nodded, looking up at the blonde again. “My therapist says its good to not keep things bottled up so much”
Tumblr media
The social worker suggested that Sawyer go see a therapist following the events that happened after her mom lost custody but that was already too much money so she passed on it. “I hope it’s working out for you. You’re very kind to have shared the information with me. I’m Sawyer, if it’s not too late to introduce myself.” Sawyer didn’t really gather the information she needed, which was disappointing, but it was okay. Perhaps she made a friend today.

Yikes, I hate that. Who wants to listen to someone air their dirty laundry. I read someplace people start fights in public because they know it can only escalate so far. Might work for someone who knows they can’t contain their temper, but nah. I don’t think it supposed to work that way. At least not for me. I can’t stand drama.
Tumblr media
You have children? What are their ages. I had a drink or two but nothing crazy. It was better than it has been in a long time to be honest.
They’re not my kids. I mean, they’re my kids. My brother and sister. Those are the munchkins. Oof, if this has been our best holiday in a long time then we’ve probably had some really crappy holidays.

mvhoney:
“That is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me in my fifty-something years of life,” she cooed as she touched a hand to her chest. Glancing at the chair opposite her, she shifted her attention back before smiling. “That is the second fastest way to get the government on your ass, but it’s a movie I would watch.” Grinning, she motioned towards the chair in an offer. “Take a seat, take a seat. My domain is open to all lost wanderers.”
Tumblr media
“Maybe I could be the next Liam Neeson or somethin’ like that. If I become an actress then maybe I’ll end up making more money than I am now.” Her eyes lit up at the idea and she was all smiles again, anything that troubled her before the conversation pushed to the back of her mind. Sawyer gladly occupied the seat across from the woman, making herself comfortable. “You’re, like, my guide or somethin’. I feel like I can learn from you. I’m Sawyer. Sawyer Craven.” She extended her hand. “I just moved here almost two months ago and I still feel like a fish outta water.”

docwhitehall:
Once again, Freddie was very quickly made aware that he had been oversharing in that way that he’d become accustomed to. That is to say things that others found heavy or personal in a tone similar to how one would comment on a movie they watched but were indifferent to. He was desensitized to his own life. “That sounds like a lot.” He looked the girl over. She seemed young, too young to be living on her own let alone taking care of anyone else. But he’d also moved out and eighteen and managed not to get himself killed. Taking care of kids at that age though he could not even imagine doing. “I think you can definitely start thinking of yourself as full on grown up,” he commented. “It’s taking on that responsibility and not leaving the kids to fend for themselves. I mean, there are always other options for you, and the fact that you picked the harder one and the one that has you thinking about the wellbeing of other humans kinda makes you more adult, or at least mature enough to be considered a grown-up.” It felt odd using that descriptor when talking about something serious. “Does taking care of your siblings not make you feel more adult?”
Tumblr media
Tears welled up in her doe, green eyes at his compliment, not expecting such a warmhearted response. Everyday she wondered if this was the best decision for the family. And while every situation was different and not everyone was terrible, the thought of leaving them in the government’s hands sounded worse than anything else. “An adult? Not really,” she muttered truthfully, looking down to her fidgeting fingers. “If anythin’ it makes me feel less of adult because it’s like I’m not doing anything’ right. I’m comin’ home from one of my two jobs and I’m so scared I won’t be able to pay the electric tomorrow. I know I forgot to take food out to defrost and I think my brother’s been wettin’ his bed. And I have no idea how to handle that conversation. Do ya have a son or a daughter at home?”

pharcharlie:
Class was boring. Exceedingly boring. One would have thought that majoring in film would have been fun, but it wasn’t. It was hours and hours of lectures on movies that Charlie absolutely hated and reports and very few actual assignments. If it didn’t mean that she wouldn’t have independent from her family name, then she would have quit by then.
The moment she walked out she was dying for something interesting to do. It was getting far too cold for most of the outdoor activities and this place was getting boring as hell too. Maybe an impromptu trip to Hawaii was in order—that sounded amazing, but a small sigh escaped her lips as she remembered just why she couldn’t leave Portland: She was proving to her parents that she could do this herself.
These thoughts were interrupted when someone fell directly in front of her. Well, not so much fell but lost their balance. Charlie had fantastic reflexes and before she could even process the motion, the other was cradled in her arms. “Well Jeez, if you were falling this hard for me you should have just said so. I’m to really one for interpretive acts.” She said in a teasing tone as she helped them back to their feet.
Tumblr media
Sawyer was late. Terribly late. If she didn’t make it to the daycare in thirty minutes then she was going to get charged for another hour and her bank account would not be able to handle that blow, no matter how small the amount seemed to be to an outsider. Yesterday, her car broke down (another hit to her wallet) and she chose the daycare that was close by so she wouldn’t have to rush. Now she needed to walk there and who knew how long it would take? She sped out of her veterinary science class (it wasn’t set in stone, but she thought since she loved to volunteer at animal shelters it made sense to study to care for them) that went over twenty-five, completely unaware that the shoelaces to her converse were undone. All in one motion, she checked her phone for the time and stepped the wrong way, then next she knew she was angling toward the ground, waiting for her impending, humiliating doom.
Tumblr media
Wait. What happened? Her face didn’t hit the ground and her books didn’t fly all over the hallway. Did she die? Who was going to take care of the munchkins? She had a load of laundry in the dryer. Someone needed to unwrinkle those. Sawyer looked to the left and to the right, noting that her arms were hooked onto another. Slowly, she tilted her head up and looked up through her eyelashes to finally catch the face of her savior. It was her eyes that she noticed first, deep and sly but somehow sweet all at once. A giggle bubbled through her and her face was at the other’s words. Her face turned beet red and her glossed lips turned into a shy grin. “I almost died,” she stated dramatically, almost out of breath. “I’m thinkin’ you might be an angel.” Clearing her throat, Sawyer got back onto her feet, rearranging herself by fixing her hair and her shirt. She saw that her shoes were unlaced but she left them as they were in worry that her angel would leave her presence. “You must get a lot of klutzes fallin’ in love with you, then. It’s like a certain type is drawn to ya.”

“It was.” She said softly, nodding as she toyed with her hair. Clearing her throat a little she looked down at the ground briefly. “They were killed…a home invasion gone bad is what the police called it.”
Tumblr media
Sawyer’s eyes fell and she began to play with her fingers, toeing her boot into the concrete. “I’m so sorry,” she muttered shamefully, regretting have asked anything at all. She wondered what was worse; having parents that didn’t want to be in your life or ones that no longer could. “You didn’t hafta tell me all that.”

“Understandable.” she nodded. “I mean, my days are plenty busy. I work in a daycare, so my nights would be dedicated to vlogging.”
Tumblr media
“You work in a daycare?” The wheels started turning in her head and she couldn’t help herself from asking. “What’s the rate of your daycare, if I can ask. Are you the head honcho? And y’all don’t do the waitlist thing do ya because it’s just so ridiculous that your child has to be interviewed and put on a waitlist before being accepted.” Not to mention daycare averaged almost over $200 a week, making it almost a grand a month to pay.

“Your uncle and I are starting to sound like the same person. Surprise, I’m your uncle,” she joked with a playful grin. Everything the younger had mentioned had practically screamed Southern belle and she’d almost been grateful that circumstance had brought her over. She admired the drizzle of an accent and knew straight away she wanted to help. “It depends really,” she nodded after a moment. “Would you like to fake your death or steal someone’s credit card information?”
Tumblr media
A giggle bubbled at her lips and she threw her head back as it did so, finding the joke funnier than it was intended to be. “Ya don’t look like a fifty year old overweight man, but it’s nice to actually have a conversation with you.” Sawyer tapped her chipped polish finger on her chin in fake thought before her eyes lit up at a decision. “Faking my death sounds too sad--I don’t think I could watch people at my funeral if anyone shows up at all. I’m thinking that maybe... maybe I could change my name and live off the grid or somethin’. How’s that?”

mvhoney:
“No, but I was a ranch hand for about five years before I started to recreationally shoving my arms into animals,” she tilted her head sweetly before letting out a laugh. “What’s with the big question anyway, sunshine? Did adulthood come sweep you off your feet, but in a totally unromantic way that felt more like you had your feet taken out from under you? Trust me. Everybody feels that way at some point in their lives, but take it from me. I’m still seven at heart. Well, more like a seven year old who pays bills.”
Tumblr media
“My uncle back home is a ranch hand. We’re not close but my mama used to tell me all the time. And I love volunteering at animal shelters,” she replied, “I don’t do it as much as I’d like, but... that’s amazin’.” A rosy pink blush crept upon her cheeks at the nickname and she bowed her head down to hide her bashful reaction. Sunshine? Sawyer had been called that before, but it never failed to make her heart skip a beat. She looked up at the other through her eyelashes and her smile faded a little. “Adulthood knocked me off my feet, actually. I guess you can say it tackled me like a Dallas Cowboys linebacker.” An exasperated sigh pulled from her chest at the other’s words. “You’re tellin’ me this bills thing doesn’t get any easier? Is there a way that I can quit that?”
